ISO 27001 certification in Jordan at a glance
Jordan National Cybersecurity Framework refers to ISO/IEC 27001, yet none of the Jordanian instruments checked makes it compulsory. Buyers in Jordan ask for it anyway.
Jordan gives information security several regulators at once. The Central Bank issues Instructions of Cyber Risks Resilience and a financial sector Cybersecurity Framework, the National Cyber Security Center works under Cyber Security Law No. (16) of 2019 and publishes a national framework that sets ISO 27002 references beside NIST controls, and the Personal Data Protection Directorate expects controllers to apply the 2025 security measures instructions. None of them makes ISO/IEC 27001 certification compulsory, so the certificate is a way to show that these overlapping expectations are managed in one system. It matters most to banks and payment firms, critical infrastructure operators, suppliers to ministries, and software and outsourcing exporters whose overseas clients ask for independent assurance. An accredited certification body issues the certificate, and buyers should check the accreditation behind it. Sterling's Dubai office scopes the system, runs risk assessment and internal audit, and prepares the Statement of Applicability, with Effivity and Sterling Academy included with the engagement.
Who needs ISO 27001 in Jordan, and what happens without it
In Jordan the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.
- Banks, financial institutions and payment firmsThe Central Bank's cyber risk instructions and financial sector framework set governance, risk assessment and protection duties, and the framework gives ISO 27001 Lead Implementer as one example of a professional certificate for the accountable cybersecurity head.
- Critical infrastructure operators and their suppliersThe National Cyber Security Center publishes critical infrastructure controls and a national framework that maps its controls to ISO 27002, a baseline that an ISO 27001 system can organise.
- Suppliers to ministries and government departmentsThe Center lists cyber security standards and controls for entities contracting with ministries and government departments (2023), so security evidence is likely to be requested from suppliers.
- Software, cloud and outsourcing exportersOverseas clients ask for independently certified information security, and the Personal Data Protection Law adds security and transfer duties when their data includes personal data.
- Controllers applying the 2025 security measures instructionsThe instructions call for yearly technical checks, access controls, backups and incident plans, which an information security management system can document and evidence.

Strip away the vocabulary and ISO/IEC 27001 requires a company to prove six things about how it protects the information it holds.
In Jordan these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: ISO/IEC 27001 explained →

How long does ISO 27001 certification take in Jordan?
There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Jordan these are the factors that set the timeline.
- Scope of information assets, sites and cloud services
- Effort for risk assessment and the Statement of Applicability
- Time to operate controls and run an internal audit and management review
- Certification body scheduling around Eid and the Sunday to Thursday working week
Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.
How much does ISO 27001 certification cost in Jordan?
The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the certification body’s audit fees, which are quoted separately. In Jordan these factors move both.
- Number of sites, systems and headcount in scope
- Depth of technical controls to remediate
- Third-party and cloud dependencies to assess
- Certification body audit fees, quoted separately from consulting
Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.
ISO 27001 consultants and certification bodies in Jordan
Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an accredited certification body then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.
- Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers ISO 27001 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
- Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Jordan are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
- Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
- Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.
Laws and regulations that drive ISO 27001 in Jordan (5)
| Instrument | How it treats the standard |
|---|---|
| Cyber Security Law No. (16) of 2019 and the National Cyber Security Center | Context Creates the Council and Center that set national cybersecurity standards and controls and license cybersecurity service providers; it does not require ISO/IEC 27001 certification. |
| Jordan National Cybersecurity Framework — activity and control mapping | Refers to / expects Sets ISO 27002 control references beside NIST 800-53 controls; it maps controls and does not require certification. |
| Central Bank of Jordan Instructions of Cyber Risks Resilience (2018) and Cybersecurity Framework for the financial sector | Refers to / expects The framework's baselines were guided by ISO among other sources and it names ISO 27001 Lead Implementer as an example of a professional certificate; neither document requires organisation-level certification. |
| Security, Technical and Organizational Measures Instructions of the year 2025 (Personal Data Protection Law) | Does not name the standard Sets technical and organisational measures, a yearly technical check and incident response plans for controllers. |
| Jordan Accreditation System – Accreditation Unit (JAS-AU) and the recognition arrangement's member list | Accreditation The arrangement's member list dated 31 December 2025 shows JAS-AU with a product certification scope and no management systems scope, so the accreditation behind a ISO/IEC 27001 certificate must be checked; this is not a mandate. |
Accreditation, audit language and remote audits in Jordan
Use a certification body accredited for ISO/IEC 27001 by an accreditation body within the international mutual recognition arrangements (Global ACI — Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated, formerly the IAF MLA); check that the accreditation scope covers the standard and your sector. The arrangement's member list dated 31 December 2025 shows Jordan's accreditation unit, JAS-AU, with a product certification scope and no management systems scope, so ask which accreditation body stands behind the certificate. The accredited certification body decides, not Sterling. Edition and transition details: ISO/IEC 27001 hub →
Audit language
Arabic and English are both used in audits and documents; agree the audit language, any interpreter and the language of controlled documents with the certification body at application, and say early if interviews will run in Arabic.
Remote and on-site
Stage audits can combine remote and on-site work at the certification body's discretion; offices, data centres and operational sites in scope are normally visited.
ISO 27001 in Jordan: questions clients ask
Does the Central Bank of Jordan require ISO 27001 certification?
The Central Bank's published cyber risk instructions and financial sector framework do not make ISO 27001 certification a requirement. They set governance, risk and protection duties, and the framework says its baselines drew on ISO among other sources, naming ISO 27001 Lead Implementer only as an example of a personal qualification for the security head. Ask the Bank what your licence requires.
Which Jordanian authority sets national cyber security standards?
The National Cyber Security Center, created by the Cyber Security Law of 2019 beside a Council that approves cybersecurity policies and standards. The Center defines standards and controls, classifies incidents and licenses cybersecurity service providers, and its national framework places ISO 27002 references beside NIST controls. Ask the Center which of its instruments apply to your sector.
Is ISO 27001 enough to meet the security duties in the Personal Data Protection Law?
It helps but does not replace them. The 2025 security instructions list specific measures, including a technical check at least once a year, role-based permissions, backups, staff training and incident response plans, plus impact assessments in set cases. An information security management system can carry those controls and records; counsel or the Directorate should confirm what else applies.
Do suppliers to Jordanian ministries face cyber security conditions?
Possibly. The Center's page of security standards lists a document of cyber security standards and controls for entities contracting with ministries and government departments (2023). Read it for the controls tied to your contract and keep evidence ready. An ISO 27001 certificate can support that evidence, but the document and the tender set the test.
