In short

ISO 27701 certification in Jordan at a glance

In Jordan, ISO/IEC 27701 is asked for by buyers and schemes rather than required by law. The drivers below show where the pressure comes from.

A Jordanian company that holds customer records now operates under the Personal Data Protection Law No. (24) of 2023, with national instructions on security, technical and organisational measures issued in 2025. Neither creates a certificate, so compliance is shown through records of processing, notices, contracts, security controls and the way requests from individuals are handled. ISO/IEC 27701 is a voluntary privacy management system built on ISO/IEC 27001, and it organises that evidence so managers and customers can follow it. It supports compliance and does not establish it, and an accredited certification body decides on certification, never Sterling or the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship. The origin of that body's accreditation should be checked. Sterling's Dubai office maps processing activities, drafts controller and processor procedures, aligns them to ISO/IEC 27001 and rehearses the audit, with Effivity and Sterling Academy included with the engagement.

The need

Who needs ISO 27701 in Jordan, and what happens without it

In Jordan the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.

  • Companies handling customer personal data that must evidence PDPL controlsThe Personal Data Protection Law No. 24 of 2023 places duties on controllers and processors, and a privacy management system gives records to show.
  • Outsourcers and cloud providers processing data for clientsProcessors face contract demands from controllers, and the Law's security measures instructions apply to them.
  • Banks, insurers and telecom operators with large customer databasesThey combine sector rules with the national law and need one governed system for both.
  • Firms already certified to ISO 27001ISO 27701 extends an information security system with privacy controls, so the groundwork carries over.

Requirements

ISO 27701 requirements in Jordan

Strip away the vocabulary and ISO/IEC 27701 requires a company to prove six things about how it handles personal data.

You know whose data you hold and whyYou know what personal data you process, for which purposes and on what basis, and whether you act as controller, processor or both.
Privacy has an ownerManagement assigns responsibility for privacy and sets objectives, so everyone who handles personal data knows their role.
You assessed the privacy risksRisks to the people whose data you process are assessed and treated, including when new products and processes are designed.
People can exercise their rightsRequests to access, correct or delete data, and other individual rights, run through a defined and timely process.
Sharing and suppliers are controlledDisclosures, transfers and processors are governed by agreements and checks, so data is used only as agreed.
You can demonstrate itRecords of processing, notices and decisions are kept, and the privacy system is audited and reviewed like any management system.

In Jordan these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: ISO/IEC 27701 explained →

Time

How long does ISO 27701 certification take in Jordan?

There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Jordan these are the factors that set the timeline.

  • Scope of personal data processing and systems
  • State of records of processing and data subject procedures
  • Vendor and processor contracts to review
  • Certification body scheduling around Eid and the Sunday to Thursday working week

Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.

Cost

How much does ISO 27701 certification cost in Jordan?

The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the certification body’s audit fees, which are quoted separately. In Jordan these factors move both.

  • Number of processing activities, systems and staff in scope
  • Existing ISO/IEC 27001 maturity
  • Certification body audit fees, quoted separately from consulting
  • Legal review of contracts and notices

Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.

Choosing a partner

ISO 27701 consultants and certification bodies in Jordan

Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an accredited certification body then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.

  • Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers ISO 27701 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
  • Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Jordan are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
  • Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
  • Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.

Laws and regulations that drive ISO 27701 in Jordan (3)

    InstrumentHow it treats the standard
Personal Data Protection Law No. (24) of 2023Context
Sets duties for controllers and processors; it does not create a certificate, and the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship publishes the law and its instructions.
Security, technical and organisational measures instructions (2025)Context
National instructions on measures for protecting personal data; they do not name ISO/IEC 27701.
Jordan Accreditation System – Accreditation Unit (JAS-AU) and the recognition arrangement's member listAccreditation
The arrangement's member list dated 31 December 2025 shows JAS-AU with a product certification scope and no management systems scope, so the accreditation behind a ISO/IEC 27701 certificate must be checked; this is not a mandate.

Accreditation, audit language and remote audits in Jordan

Use a certification body accredited for ISO/IEC 27701 by an accreditation body within the international mutual recognition arrangements (Global ACI — Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated, formerly the IAF MLA); check that the accreditation scope covers the standard and your sector. The arrangement's member list dated 31 December 2025 shows Jordan's accreditation unit, JAS-AU, with a product certification scope and no management systems scope, so ask which accreditation body stands behind the certificate. The accredited certification body decides, not Sterling. Edition and transition details: ISO/IEC 27701 hub →

    Audit language

Arabic and English are both used in audits and documents; agree the audit language, any interpreter and the language of controlled documents with the certification body at application, and say early if interviews will run in Arabic.

    Remote and on-site

Many document and interview elements can be remote at the certification body's discretion; data centres and operational sites in scope are usually visited.

ISO 27701 in Jordan: questions clients ask

Does ISO/IEC 27701 make a Jordanian company compliant with the data protection law?

No. Compliance with Law No. (24) of 2023 is a legal position shown through records and practice, and no certificate establishes it. ISO/IEC 27701 gives a structured privacy management system whose evidence can support that position. Have counsel confirm how your processing meets the Law and its instructions.

    Do I need ISO 27001 before ISO/IEC 27701?

ISO/IEC 27701 is an extension of ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO/IEC 27002 with privacy-specific requirements, so it is normally audited with an information security management system in place. Organisations without one usually build both together, which avoids duplicated documents and gives auditors a single scope.

How do the 2025 security measures instructions relate to ISO/IEC 27701?

The instructions set national expectations for technical and organisational measures that protect personal data, and the standard does not mention them. A privacy management system can hold your mapping to each measure with owners and evidence. Treat the mapping as your working tool and check it against the current text.

Who certifies ISO/IEC 27701 in Jordan?

Privacy management certificates are issued by certification bodies that hold accreditation for the standard, never by Sterling or the Ministry. The accreditation behind one may come from a body outside Jordan, since the end-of-2025 listing shows the national unit for product certification only. Request each candidate's accreditation certificate and scope.
