The pricing approach · how an engagement fee is set

ISO consulting pricing: one all-inclusive proposal, built on your scope.

ISO consulting pricing at Sterling starts from your scope, not a rate card. The standards, sites, headcount, starting maturity and the support level you choose shape one all-inclusive proposal, set out in a written proposal after a free discovery call, with Effivity included and certification-body fees kept on their own line.

  • Fee drivers stated plainly: standards, activities, sites, headcount, starting maturity and Design™ or Drive™
  • One all-inclusive proposal for consulting, Effivity software and Sterling Academy access; certification-body fees shown separately
  • The Sterling Promise: 100% on-time completion, 100% success, 8,100+ client engagements. Sterling does not certify; an accredited body audits and decides
  • A figure you can plan aroundThe fee is agreed once, in writing, and does not rise if the work runs longer than planned.
  • The whole programme cost in viewCertification-body fees sit on their own line, so offers from different providers can be compared fairly.
  • Software and learning inside the feeEffivity comes at no additional cost, and Sterling Academy access is part of the same figure.
  • Payments that follow resultsEach instalment falls due when a deliverable is finished, never simply because a month has passed.

What shapes the fee

Six things set the fee. The standard you need comes first.

The standard, or how many standards you combine into one system, sets the requirements to meet. The activities in scope and the number of sites set where the work happens. Headcount sets how many people are trained and how much evidence the system produces. Starting maturity sets how much is built new and how much is kept. The support level, Design™ or Drive™, sets how much of the work Sterling carries.

Who does what

Choose how much of the work Sterling carries.

Design™ and Drive™ are alternative support levels, and the one you choose is part of the scope the proposal prices. Design™ is the default: we develop, you implement under our expert advice and supervision. Drive™ is fully managed: we design and build under your approval.

You choose one model, not a sequence of both. Effivity, Sterling Academy access, the Sterling Promise and the all-inclusive terms come with either. If you cannot yet tell which fits, say so on the discovery call and the consultant will explain what changes in the work between the two.

What you receive

What one all-inclusive proposal covers. Nothing charged separately for Sterling's part.

How the fee works
  1. Scope and gap analysis reportThe certificate scope agreed and each shortfall against the standard listed, with an owner and a date.
  2. Implementation planMilestones, owners, the weekly session calendar and the target audit window; the payment milestones follow it.
  3. The documented management systemPolicies, procedures, forms and records on Sterling's template sets, fitted to how you actually operate.
  4. Effivity workspaceConfigured for your scope and included with the engagement, at no additional cost.
  5. Sterling Academy learningPreferential course access and special pricing for your people, with complimentary awareness training as part of the engagement.
  6. Internal audit and management reviewBoth completed before the certification body arrives, with corrective actions closed on evidence.
  7. Certification readinessQuotations from accredited bodies compared, accreditation checked, and support through Stage 1 and Stage 2.
  8. The Sustain™ calendarSurveillance dates, internal audits, refresher training and any edition transition planned for the year after certification.

Effivity · included with the engagement

Your system runs in software from the first workshop.

Effivity is the ISO and GRC automation platform built by the Sterling group and used in 50+ countries. Your consultant configures it within the agreed scope, so evidence accumulates as people do their work and the certification auditor reviews a live system rather than a binder. Sterling consulting clients get their subscription included with the engagement, at no additional cost.

ISO & GRC software

Sterling Academy · included with the engagement

Your people learn the standard, not just the forms.

E-learning with practice checkpoints, a final exam and a numbered Certificate of Completion for each learner, verifiable online, with progress by department for the certification audit. Sterling consulting clients get preferential course access and special pricing, including complimentary awareness training for their people as part of the engagement.

How we price

One all-inclusive proposal. Every component visible. No surprises, ever.

ISO consulting pricing at Sterling rests on six drivers: the standard or standards, the activities in scope, the number of sites, headcount, how mature your processes are today, and whether you choose Design™ or Drive™. A single published figure would be wrong for most organisations, so the fee is set once those facts are known. The terms below apply to every proposal, whatever its size.

  • One all-inclusive proposal for Sterling's work, software and learning. Consulting, Effivity and Sterling Academy access in one figure; the fee does not move when the work takes longer than we planned.
  • Certification-body fees identified separately. The body's audit days, travel and surveillance arrangements are shown as their own line, so the full programme cost is comparable across proposals.
  • Payment milestones tied to deliverables, not to the calendar: the gap analysis report, the documented system, the internal audit, the certificate.
  • Deliverables, responsibilities, assumptions and exclusions in writing, and nothing to sign to receive the proposal.

To prepare your proposal we need

  • The standard or standards, or the customer requirement behind them
  • The activities and sites the certificate should cover
  • Approximate headcount at each site
  • What exists today: a system, a certificate, or neither
  • Your deadline, and Design™ or Drive™ if you already know

That is enough for a scoped, all-inclusive proposal from a Sterling consultant in your region. There is no need to prepare a manual first.

Sterling OS™: how every engagement runs

Don’t be fooled by certification scams

Sterling against the alternatives.

The market offers four ways to a certificate. Three of them leave you with a system that does not run, a certificate that fails a customer's check, or both. This is what each route actually gives you.

FAQs

Questions clients ask before they engage us.

General answers on how the fee is set. Your own figure comes from the discovery call and the written proposal.

How much does ISO consulting cost?

It depends on your scope, so Sterling does not quote a universal price. The standard or standards, the activities and sites covered, headcount, how mature your processes are and the support level you choose, Design™ or Drive™, all shape the fee. After a free discovery call a Sterling consultant sends a scoped, all-inclusive proposal for consulting, Effivity and Sterling Academy access, and the certification body's costs shown on their own line.

Why is there no price list on the website?

Because a list would be accurate for almost nobody. Two organisations certifying to the same standard can differ so much in sites, headcount and starting maturity that one figure would overcharge one and underprice the other. A proposal built on your own facts is more useful to you, and there is nothing to sign before you see it.

Is the fee really fixed?

Yes. The fee for Sterling's work, software and learning is agreed in the proposal and does not move if the work takes longer than we planned, for example when a document needs another round or a finding needs more support to close. The proposal sets out its assumptions and exclusions in writing, so you can see exactly what the figure covers before you accept it.

Are certification body fees included in Sterling's fee?

No. The certification body's audit days, travel and surveillance arrangements are separate from Sterling's fee and appear as their own line, so you can compare the full programme cost across offers. The contract with the body is yours. Sterling helps you compare quotations from accredited bodies and checks their accreditation, but Sterling does not certify and never folds a certificate into its own invoice.

Does choosing Design™ or Drive™ change the fee?

The support level is part of the scope, so the proposal is priced on the model you choose. Under Design™ your team implements under our expert advice and supervision; under Drive™ Sterling designs and builds under your approval and carries more of the work. Both include Effivity, Sterling Academy access, the Sterling Promise and the same all-inclusive terms. If you are undecided, say so on the discovery call.

How do extra sites or extra standards affect the fee?

Each adds to the scope the proposal covers: more sites mean more locations to implement, train and prepare for audit, and each standard brings its own requirements. Several standards can be built as one integrated system with shared document control, internal audit and management review, planned as one programme with one engagement team and one Effivity workspace. The proposal shows how your combination has been scoped.

Does it matter that we already have some procedures in place?

Yes. Starting maturity is one of the six drivers. The gap analysis keeps what already works and plans only the gaps, so an organisation with established, followed procedures has less to build than one starting from nothing. Tell us on the discovery call what exists today, even if it is informal or out of date, and the proposal will reflect it.

When do we pay?

Payments are tied to deliverables rather than to dates: the gap analysis report, the documented system, the internal audit and the certificate. You pay as the work is completed, and each milestone is set out in the proposal next to the deliverable it follows. The exact schedule for your engagement is agreed in that proposal before any work begins.

What do we need to provide to get a proposal?

Five facts are enough: the standard or the customer requirement behind it, the activities and sites to cover, approximate headcount, whether a system or certificate exists today, and your deadline if there is one. Share them on the enquiry form or during the discovery call. No manual or document pack is needed, and a Sterling consultant in your region replies within one working day.
