In short

SOC 2 attestation in Jordan at a glance

In Jordan, SOC 2 is asked for by buyers and schemes rather than required by law. The drivers below show where the pressure comes from.

Jordanian software and service companies selling abroad meet SOC 2 in security questionnaires long before they meet a regulator. National texts such as the Cyber Security Law No. (16) of 2019 and the Central Bank of Jordan's 2018 cyber risk instructions set duties of their own, and none names SOC 2. The report is an attestation, issued by an independent licensed CPA firm after examining controls against the trust services criteria, either at a date or over a period. It is not a certificate and no Jordanian accreditation body is involved. Sterling does not attest; its Dubai office helps teams choose criteria, write the system description, close control gaps and collect evidence so the attest firm's examination runs smoothly, with Effivity and Sterling Academy included with the engagement.

The need

Who needs SOC 2 in Jordan, and what happens without it

In Jordan the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.

  • Software and cloud providers selling to international customersCustomers abroad ask for a service auditor's report as part of security review.
  • Outsourcers and managed service providersThey run customer systems and need independent evidence of controls.
  • Fintechs and payment firmsBanks and partners ask for assurance reports on controls that touch their data.
  • Startups preparing for enterprise salesA report shortens security questionnaires with large buyers.

Requirements

SOC 2 requirements in Jordan

Strip away the vocabulary and SOC 2 asks a service organisation to report on six things about the controls behind its service.

You describe your system accuratelyA system description sets out your services, infrastructure, people, data and the boundaries of what the report covers.
Security is designed inControls protect the system against unauthorised access and use; security is the one category every SOC 2 report includes.
Access is granted on need and reviewedLogical and physical access is approved on need, removed when no longer required and reviewed regularly.
Changes and operations are controlledSystem changes are authorised and tested, and operations are monitored so incidents are detected and handled.
Risks and vendors are assessedRisks to your commitments, including those coming from vendors and business partners, are assessed and acted on.
Controls work over timeFor a Type 2 report, a licensed CPA firm tests that the controls operated effectively across the review period.

In Jordan these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: SOC 2 explained →

    Time

How long does SOC 2 attestation take in Jordan?

There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Jordan these are the factors that set the timeline.

    • Selected trust services criteria and system description
    • Maturity of access, change and monitoring controls
    • Length of the observation period for a period-based report
    • Auditor availability

Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.

    Cost

How much does SOC 2 attestation cost in Jordan?

The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the CPA firm’s fees, which are quoted separately. In Jordan these factors move both.

    • Number of systems, teams and criteria in scope
    • Tooling for evidence collection
    • Attest firm fees, quoted separately from consulting
    • Remediation work found by readiness

Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.

    Choosing a partner

SOC 2 consultants and auditors in Jordan

Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; a licensed CPA firm then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.

    • Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers SOC 2 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
    • Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Jordan are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
    • Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
    • Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.

Accreditation, audit language and remote audits in Jordan

Attestation, not certification: a SOC 2 report is issued by an independent licensed CPA firm after it examines your controls against the trust services criteria, in a point-in-time or period-based report. No Jordanian accreditation body or certificate applies. Sterling does not attest; it prepares your controls and evidence. Choose the firm with your customers' expectations in mind. Audit language

Arabic and English are both used in audits and documents; agree the audit language, any interpreter and the language of controlled documents with the certification body at application, and say early if interviews will run in Arabic.

      Remote and on-site

Most evidence collection and walkthroughs are remote at the attest firm's discretion; physical sites in scope may be visited.

SOC 2 in Jordan: questions clients ask

      Is SOC 2 a certificate?

No. It is an attestation report written by an independent CPA firm about your controls against the trust services criteria. No accreditation body certifies it and Sterling does not attest. The report is shared with customers under confidentiality, so plan scope and criteria carefully before the examination begins.

Does a Jordanian regulator require SOC 2?

None of the cited national texts names SOC 2, so it is a customer-driven assurance report. Cyber instructions from the Central Bank and the national law apply separately to those in scope. Confirm with each customer which report, criteria and type they expect.

What is the difference between a Type 1 and Type 2 report?

A Type 1 report describes whether controls are designed appropriately at a single date, while a Type 2 report also tests whether they operated effectively over a period. Enterprise buyers usually prefer Type 2. Many companies start with Type 1 and move on once controls run consistently.

Can SOC 2 and ISO 27001 be run together in Jordan?

Yes. Both rest on risk-based security controls, so policies, access reviews, change management and monitoring evidence overlap heavily. ISO 27001 results in a certificate and SOC 2 in an attestation report, and each is issued by a different kind of body. Customers decide which they need.
