ISO 22301 certification in Thailand at a glance
In Thailand, ISO 22301 is asked for by buyers and schemes rather than required by law. The drivers below show where the pressure comes from.
Availability is one of four areas the Bank of Thailand's payment security notification, SorNorChor. 11/2561, requires of payment system providers, alongside access control, confidentiality and integrity, and security audit; its IT risk notification for financial institutions, FPG. 19/2560, adds IT governance and risk management. Neither names ISO 22301, but a business continuity management system is the structured way to show that critical services can be recovered, and it appeals equally to the aviation, logistics and manufacturing operators the Eastern Economic Corridor promotes. Certification comes from an accredited certification body, and the National Standardization Council's recorded scopes do not include ISO 22301, so verify each body's accreditation. Sterling's Manila office runs the business impact analysis, builds recovery strategies and plans, and prepares exercises and management review evidence for Thai clients, on site where recovery arrangements must be seen, with Effivity and Sterling Academy included in the engagement. Local questions follow.
Who needs ISO 22301 in Thailand, and what happens without it
In Thailand the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.
- Payment system and payment service providersThe Bank of Thailand's payment security notification includes service availability as one of its four areas.
- Banks and technology suppliers that run critical IT servicesThe IT risk notification covers IT governance, risk management and security controls for financial institutions.
- Logistics and aviation-related operatorsThe corridor's services cluster lists aviation and logistics, where disruption has an immediate customer impact.
- Manufacturers and BPO centres serving overseas customersCustomers ask how a site will keep delivering through disruption.

Take the ISO 22301 readiness checkISO 22301 requirements in Thailand
Strip away the vocabulary and ISO 22301 requires a company to prove six things about how it keeps operating when something goes wrong.
In Thailand these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: ISO 22301 explained →

How long does ISO 22301 certification take in Thailand?
There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Thailand these are the factors that set the timeline.
- Completeness of the business impact analysis
- Recovery strategies already tested
- Number of sites and critical services in scope
Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.
How much does ISO 22301 certification cost in Thailand?
The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the certification body’s audit fees, which are quoted separately. In Thailand these factors move both.
- Number of critical services and sites
- Exercise and recovery capability to build
- Certification body audit fees quoted separately from consulting
Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.
ISO 22301 consultants and certification bodies in Thailand
Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an accredited certification body then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.
- Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers ISO 22301 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
- Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Thailand are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
- Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
- Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.

Accreditation, audit language and remote audits in Thailand
Use a certification body accredited for ISO 22301 by a body within the international mutual recognition arrangements now run by Global ACI (Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated). The NSC scopes recorded for management systems do not list ISO 22301, so read the body's accreditation certificate. No body is named here. Edition and transition details: ISO 22301 hub →
Audit language
Audits can be in English or Thai; continuity plans should be readable by the people who must execute them, which usually means Thai.
Remote and on-site
Document review and interviews can be partly remote at the certification body's discretion; recovery sites and exercises are witnessed on site.
ISO 22301 in Thailand: questions clients ask
Does the Bank of Thailand require ISO 22301?
Not by name. The payment security notification lists service availability among four security areas and names no ISO standard, and the IT risk notification does the same. ISO 22301 gives a structured way to meet availability expectations, but whether a certificate is wanted is for the regulator or your customer to say.
What does the payment security notification require on availability?
It names service availability as one of four required security areas, alongside access control and authentication, information confidentiality and system integrity, and security audit of IT systems. It does not describe a continuity standard. A business continuity system helps evidence availability; read the notification's current text for the actual duties.
Which accreditation should an ISO 22301 certification body hold?
Business continuity is outside the recorded scope list of Thailand's National Standardization Council, which covers quality, environmental and energy management. A certification body for ISO 22301 therefore needs to show its own accreditation, naming the standard, from a body within the international arrangements. Request the certificate from the body and read the scope line by line.
Is aviation and logistics a promoted sector?
In the Eastern Economic Corridor, yes: EECO lists aviation and logistics within its services cluster. Operators there depend on uninterrupted operations, but the promotion framework does not itself require ISO 22301. Customers, insurers and regulators decide what continuity evidence they want.
