ISO 45001 certification in Thailand at a glance
In Thailand, ISO 45001 is asked for by buyers and schemes rather than required by law. The drivers below show where the pressure comes from.
The Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand lists industrial disaster prevention and mitigation among its missions, which matters to the many factories in its estates, and multinational customers in the automotive and electronics clusters audit the safety performance of their suppliers. Workplace safety is a legal matter handled by Thai authorities, and ISO 45001 organises hazard identification, worker consultation, contractor control and incident learning into one system, but the certificate remains voluntary unless a customer or contract asks for it. It is issued by an accredited certification body; the National Standardization Council's recorded scopes do not include ISO 45001, so verify each body's accreditation. Sterling's Manila office builds the system for Thai sites, on site where hazards must be seen first-hand, with Effivity and Sterling Academy included in the engagement. Local questions are answered below.
Who needs ISO 45001 in Thailand, and what happens without it
In Thailand the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.
- Tenants of industrial estatesIEAT lists industrial disaster prevention and mitigation among its missions, which raises estate-level safety expectations.
- Suppliers to multinational customers in the automotive and electronics clustersCustomers audit safety performance of suppliers as part of supplier approval.
- Logistics, warehousing and construction firms

Strip away the vocabulary and ISO 45001 requires a company to prove six things about keeping its people safe and healthy at work.
In Thailand these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: ISO 45001 explained →

How long does ISO 45001 certification take in Thailand?
There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Thailand these are the factors that set the timeline.
- Number of sites, shifts and contractor interfaces
- Existing incident and risk records
- Worker consultation arrangements to establish
Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.
How much does ISO 45001 certification cost in Thailand?
The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the certification body’s audit fees, which are quoted separately. In Thailand these factors move both.
- Hazard profile and number of high-risk activities
- Contractor management and training needs
- Certification body audit fees quoted separately from consulting
Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.
ISO 45001 consultants and certification bodies in Thailand
Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an accredited certification body then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.
- Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers ISO 45001 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
- Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Thailand are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
- Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
- Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.

| Instrument | How it treats the standard |
|---|---|
| Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) missions | Related Industrial disaster prevention and mitigation is among its stated missions. |

Accreditation, audit language and remote audits in Thailand
Use a certification body accredited for ISO 45001 by an accreditation body within the international mutual recognition arrangements now run by Global ACI (Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated). The NSC scopes recorded for management systems do not list ISO 45001, so read the certification body's accreditation certificate and scope. Edition and transition details: ISO 45001 hub →
Audit language
Audits can be in English or Thai, but worker consultation, instructions and training records must be understood by the workforce, so plan Thai versions of safety procedures and signage.
Remote and on-site
Document review can be remote at the certification body's discretion; hazards, plant and work areas are inspected on site.
ISO 45001 in Thailand: questions clients ask
Which accreditation should an ISO 45001 certification body hold?
Occupational health and safety is not among the National Standardization Council's recorded scopes, which are quality, environmental and energy management. That makes the certification body's own accreditation certificate the document to read: it should name ISO 45001, come from a body within the international mutual recognition arrangements, and cover the sector you work in.
Does the industrial estate authority affect safety expectations?
It can. The Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand lists industrial disaster prevention and mitigation, along with environmental management systems, among its missions, so tenants of its estates may meet safety expectations through estate management. Ask the estate operator what it requires of your plant, which is separate from any ISO 45001 certificate.
Do workers need Thai-language safety documents?
In practice, yes. The audit can run in English, but procedures, instructions and training that front-line workers use must be understood by them, which in most Thai workplaces means Thai, and sometimes other languages for migrant staff. Agree the audit language with the certification body and plan the translations early.
