In short

ISO 37301 certification in Vietnam at a glance

In Vietnam, ISO 37301 is asked for by buyers and schemes rather than required by law. The drivers below show where the pressure comes from.

Compliance teams in Vietnamese banks, payment companies, listed companies and technology firms now track a dense set of obligations: the State Bank of Vietnam's information system safety rules, the Law on Personal Data Protection in force since 1 January 2026, the Law on Artificial Intelligence in force since 1 March 2026 and anti-corruption duties for non-state enterprises. ISO 37301 provides the management system that holds such obligations together — an obligations register, compliance risk assessment, controls, training, reporting, raising concerns and monitoring — and it can be certified. None of these Vietnamese instruments cites the standard; its value lies in demonstrating a working compliance function to boards, regulators, parent companies and investors. Certification is issued by a certification body; BoA does not list compliance management systems among its IAF MLA programmes, so confirm the body's accreditation for ISO 37301. Sterling's Ho Chi Minh City office builds the obligations register and the compliance framework with the client, with Effivity and Sterling Academy included. Questions follow.

The need

Who needs ISO 37301 in Vietnam, and what happens without it

In Vietnam the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.

  • Banks and payment intermediariesInformation system safety, card and data protection obligations to track.
  • Public companies and credit institutionsAnti-corruption transparency and conflict-of-interest duties.
  • Technology firms deploying AI and processing personal dataNew statutory obligations under the AI and personal data laws.

ISO 37301 requirements in Vietnam

Strip away the vocabulary and ISO 37301 requires a company to prove six things about how it meets its legal and other obligations.

You know your obligationsObligations from laws, regulators, contracts and voluntary commitments are identified and kept current.
The governing body and management leadThe governing body and top management set the compliance policy and support a culture in which compliance is expected.
A compliance function has authorityA compliance function is resourced, independent enough to act and has direct access to the governing body.
Compliance risks are assessedRisks of failing to meet obligations are assessed, and controls are designed in proportion to them.
Concerns are raised and handledPeople can raise concerns without fear of retaliation, and suspected breaches are investigated and corrected.
You monitor and reportCompliance performance is monitored, reported to leadership, audited and reviewed so the system improves.

In Vietnam these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: ISO 37301 explained →

One team from the Ho Chi Minh City office carries the work from scoping to certificate. Delivery across Vietnam from the Ho Chi Minh City office, on-site and remote.

    1. Discovery call and scopeEntities, locations, regulators and target date, agreed before any proposal.
    2. Gap assessment against ISO 37301 and the Vietnamese requirements that apply to youControls you already run for your regulators and customers are reused, not rebuilt.

      Time

How long does ISO 37301 certification take in Vietnam?

There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Vietnam these are the factors that set the timeline.

      • Breadth of the obligations register
      • Maturity of compliance reporting and monitoring
      • Number of provinces, industrial parks and sites in scope
      • Scheduling around the Tết break

Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.

      Cost

How much does ISO 37301 certification cost in Vietnam?

The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the certification body’s audit fees, which are quoted separately. In Vietnam these factors move both.

      • Number of entities and regulated activities
      • Compliance tooling and training
      • Certification body audit fees quoted separately from consulting
      • Translation of documents between Vietnamese and English where auditors or parent companies need both

Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.

        Choosing a partner

ISO 37301 consultants and certification bodies in Vietnam

Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an accredited certification body then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.

        • Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers ISO 37301 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
        • Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Vietnam are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
        • Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
        • Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.

BoA (National Accreditation Bureau) — VICAS programmeMarket driver
BoA accredits management-system certification bodies under ISO/IEC 17021-1, but its published IAF MLA programme list does not include compliance management systems; no mandate.

Accreditation, audit language and remote audits in Vietnam

BoA's published IAF MLA programme list does not include compliance management systems; confirm that the chosen certification body holds accreditation for this standard from BoA or from an accreditation body within the international mutual recognition arrangements (Global ACI — Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated, formerly the IAF MLA), and that the scope covers your sector. No body is named here unless its accreditation scope has been verified. Edition and transition details: ISO 37301 hub →

          Audit language

Agree the audit language (Vietnamese or English) and the document language with the certification body at application.

          Remote and on-site

Remote audit elements are at the certification body's discretion under its accreditation rules; operational sites are normally visited on-site.

ISO 37301 in Vietnam: questions clients ask

Is ISO 37301 required by any Vietnamese regulator?

No recorded instrument cites ISO 37301, so no Vietnamese regulator is shown requiring it. The driver is market and governance. If a customer or your board asks for a compliance management system, treat that as the reason, and confirm the request in writing.

Which Vietnamese obligations does an ISO 37301 register usually cover?

A register would draw on the rules that bind your organisation: State Bank of Vietnam rules for covered banking-sector organisations, the Law on Personal Data Protection, the Law on Artificial Intelligence and the Law on Anti-corruption. The final list depends on your sector and activities, so build it with your counsel.

Is ISO 37301 certification accredited by BoA?

Not as a published programme. Compliance management systems are missing from BoA's IAF MLA list, so ask your certification body to show its ISO 37301 accreditation and the body that granted it, whether BoA or a peer in the mutual recognition arrangements, and see that the scope fits.
