ISO 37001 certification in Vietnam at a glance
One Vietnamese instrument bears on ISO 37001. It does not name the standard. So why do buyers in Vietnam keep asking for the certificate?
Vietnam's Law on Anti-corruption No. 36/2018/QH14 reaches beyond the state sector: non-state enterprises must take measures to prevent corruption, self-inspect to detect it and cooperate with the authorities, while public companies and credit institutions also carry transparency and conflict-of-interest duties. Amendments made by Law No. 132/2025/QH15 took effect on 1 July 2026. The law does not name ISO 37001, but an anti-bribery management system is a structured way to show those measures exist and work: a policy, bribery risk assessment, due diligence on business associates, gifts and hospitality controls, financial and non-financial controls, whistleblowing channels and investigation. Multinational parents and export customers ask Vietnamese suppliers for similar evidence. Certification is issued by a certification body; BoA does not list anti-bribery management systems among its IAF MLA programmes, so confirm the body's accreditation. Sterling, active for 20+ years, builds the system from its Ho Chi Minh City office, with Effivity and Sterling Academy included. Questions follow.
Who needs ISO 37001 in Vietnam, and what happens without it
In Vietnam the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.
- Non-state enterprisesThe Law on Anti-corruption requires corruption-prevention measures and self-inspection.
- Public companies and credit institutionsAdditional transparency, conflict-of-interest and head-of-organisation duties.
- Bidders for public contracts and suppliers to multinationalsIntegrity due diligence in procurement and supplier approval.

Strip away the vocabulary and ISO 37001 requires a company to prove six things about how it prevents, detects and responds to bribery.
In Vietnam these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: ISO 37001 explained →

How long does ISO 37001 certification take in Vietnam?
There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Vietnam these are the factors that set the timeline.
- Number of business associates requiring due diligence
- Maturity of financial and non-financial controls
- Number of provinces, industrial parks and sites in scope
- Scheduling around the Tết break
Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.
How much does ISO 37001 certification cost in Vietnam?
The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the certification body’s audit fees, which are quoted separately. In Vietnam these factors move both.
- Number of entities, sites and high-risk functions
- Due diligence and whistleblowing tooling
- Certification body audit fees quoted separately from consulting
- Translation of documents between Vietnamese and English where auditors or parent companies need both
Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.
ISO 37001 consultants and certification bodies in Vietnam
Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an accredited certification body then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.
- Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers ISO 37001 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
- Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Vietnam are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
- Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
- Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.
Laws and regulations that drive ISO 37001 in Vietnam (2)
| Instrument | How it treats the standard |
|---|---|
| Law on Anti-corruption No. 36/2018/QH14 (consolidated text 65/VBHN-VPQH) | Expected in practice Non-state enterprises must take corruption-prevention measures and self-inspect; ISO 37001 is not named. |
| BoA (National Accreditation Bureau) — VICAS programme | Market driver BoA accredits management-system certification bodies under ISO/IEC 17021-1, but its published IAF MLA programme list does not include anti-bribery management systems; no mandate. |
"Expected in practice" means the instrument asks for the outcomes ISO 37001 covers without naming a standard, and ISO 37001 is what buyers and regulators commonly accept as evidence of them.
Accreditation, audit language and remote audits in Vietnam
BoA's published IAF MLA programme list does not include anti-bribery management systems; confirm that the chosen certification body holds accreditation for this standard from BoA or from an accreditation body within the international mutual recognition arrangements (Global ACI — Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated, formerly the IAF MLA), and that the scope covers your sector. No body is named here unless its accreditation scope has been verified. Edition and transition details: ISO 37001 hub →
Audit language
Agree the audit language (Vietnamese or English) and the document language with the certification body at application.
Remote and on-site
Remote audit elements are at the certification body's discretion under its accreditation rules; operational sites are normally visited on-site.
ISO 37001 in Vietnam: questions clients ask
Does Vietnamese anti-corruption law apply to private companies?
Yes, in part. Non-state enterprises must take corruption-prevention measures and self-inspect to detect corruption, so the law reaches private companies, and public companies and credit institutions carry further duties. Ask counsel which provisions apply to your organisation, as the duties differ by type of enterprise.
Does ISO 37001 certification prove compliance with the Law on Anti-corruption?
No. The law does not cite ISO 37001. The standard evidences the preventive measures an organisation has put in place, which supports its own duties under the law. Whether that meets a particular legal requirement is for your counsel or the inspection bodies to say.
Is ISO 37001 certification accredited by BoA?
Anti-bribery sits outside BoA's published IAF MLA programme list. If you want ISO 37001 certification, verify the body's accreditation in detail: who granted it, whether BoA or a body within the mutual recognition arrangements, and whether it reaches your sector. Do not assume it from the body's marketing.
