ISO 17025 accreditation in Türkiye at a glance
Public Procurement Law No. 4734 and the Public Procurement Authority refers to ISO/IEC 17025, yet none of the Turkish instruments checked makes it compulsory. Buyers in Türkiye ask for it anyway.
Which tests does a Turkish customer accept without repeating them? Increasingly, those reported by a laboratory accredited to ISO/IEC 17025. TÜRKAK, the national accreditation body, is shown by Global ACI as recognised for testing and calibration under the standard since 2006, and also for medical testing and proficiency testing provision. Accreditation is not certification: it is granted for a stated scope of methods after an assessment that witnesses the work, and no certification body issues it. Contracting authorities under the Public Procurement Law may ask for certificates from accredited quality control institutions, and exporters often pass on the same expectation. Sterling's Dubai office helps laboratories choose the scope, validate methods, build uncertainty budgets and prepare for the assessment, on-site or remotely, with Effivity and Sterling Academy included with the engagement.
Who needs ISO 17025 in Türkiye, and what happens without it
In Türkiye the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.
- Calibration laboratories serving manufacturersCustomers and quality auditors want calibration certificates traceable to a competent, accredited source.
- Testing laboratories for food, textile, materials and environmental samplesExport customers and buyers ask for test reports issued under accreditation.
- In-house quality control laboratories of manufacturersPlants that rely on their own test results for release decisions seek accreditation to show competence.
- Laboratories bidding for public tendersThe Public Procurement Law lets a contracting authority ask for certificates from accredited quality control institutions.

Strip away the vocabulary and ISO/IEC 17025 requires a laboratory to prove six things about its competence and the results it reports.
In Türkiye these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: ISO/IEC 17025 explained →

How long does ISO 17025 accreditation take in Türkiye?
There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Türkiye these are the factors that set the timeline.
- Definition of the accreditation scope of tests and calibrations
- Method validation, measurement uncertainty and traceability evidence
- Proficiency testing or interlaboratory comparisons to complete
- Accreditation body assessment scheduling
Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.
How much does ISO 17025 accreditation cost in Türkiye?
The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the accreditation body’s fees, which are quoted separately. In Türkiye these factors move both.
- Number of methods, instruments and staff in scope
- Reference standards, calibration of equipment and proficiency testing fees
- Accreditation body application and assessment fees, quoted separately
- Environmental and facility upgrades
Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.
ISO 17025 consultants and assessors in Türkiye
Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; the accreditation body then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.
- Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers ISO 17025 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
- Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Türkiye are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
- Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
- Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.

Accreditation, audit language and remote audits in Türkiye
Accreditation, not certification: a laboratory is accredited for a defined scope of tests or calibrations by the national accreditation body, TÜRKAK, or by another accreditation body within the international arrangements. Global ACI shows TÜRKAK recognised for ISO/IEC 17025 testing and calibration from May 2006. The accreditation body assesses and decides; Sterling does not accredit, assess or issue accreditation. Audit language
Turkish is the usual working language and the audit is normally run in it; agree the audit language, any interpreter and the language of controlled documents with the certification body at application, and say early if records will be in English.
Remote and on-site
Accreditation assessments combine document review with on-site witnessing of tests and calibrations, so laboratory work is assessed in person; document review may be remote at the accreditation body's discretion.
ISO 17025 in Türkiye: questions clients ask
Who accredits a laboratory in Türkiye?
TÜRKAK, the Turkish Accreditation Agency, which Global ACI lists as the national accreditation body and a mutual recognition signatory. It shows ISO/IEC 17025 recognition for testing and calibration from May 2006. Accreditation is for a defined scope, so check the scope on a laboratory's certificate rather than relying on the laboratory's name alone.
Is ISO/IEC 17025 the same as ISO 9001 for a laboratory?
No. ISO 9001 certifies a management system, while ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation also assesses technical competence for specific methods, with measurement uncertainty, traceability and validated methods at its core. A laboratory may meet both. Accreditation is granted by an accreditation body for a stated scope; certification is issued by a certification body.
Do public tenders ask for accredited laboratories?
They can. The Public Procurement Law allows a contracting authority to ask for certificates from quality control institutions accredited under international rules, certifying conformity with the standards named in the tender documents. Each tender states what it needs, so read its technical specification to see whether accreditation for your test method is required.
Can a manufacturer's in-house laboratory be accredited?
Yes, a laboratory inside a plant can seek accreditation for its own scope, provided it shows technical competence and impartiality for the methods it wants listed. Many plants start with the methods that drive release decisions or customer reports. Agree the scope with TÜRKAK or another accreditation body before you invest in equipment.
