In short

ISO 42001 certification in Jordan at a glance

In Jordan, ISO/IEC 42001 is asked for by buyers and schemes rather than required by law. The drivers below show where the pressure comes from.

Artificial intelligence is arriving in Jordan through banks, fintechs and software exporters, and governance expectations are following. The Central Bank of Jordan has published an Artificial Intelligence Framework for financial institutions, and the Personal Data Protection Law No. (24) of 2023 applies to personal data used in models. Neither names ISO/IEC 42001, which is a voluntary management system standard for governing AI: inventory, impact assessment, oversight, testing, monitoring and improvement. Accredited certification against it is still developing, so any candidate body's scope should be checked in writing. Certificates come from certification bodies, never Sterling, and certification does not establish legal compliance. Sterling's Dubai office builds the AI inventory, risk and impact assessments and monitoring routines, and rehearses the audit, with Effivity and Sterling Academy included with the engagement.

The need

Who needs ISO 42001 in Jordan, and what happens without it

In Jordan the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.

  • Banks and fintechs deploying models in credit, fraud or serviceThe Central Bank published an artificial intelligence framework for financial institutions that sets governance expectations.
  • Software companies embedding AI in products for exportCustomers ask providers to show governed development, testing and monitoring of models.
  • Companies processing personal data in AI systemsThe Personal Data Protection Law applies to personal data that models use.
  • Public sector suppliers and cloud providersGovernment and critical sector buyers ask for governance evidence for automated systems.

Requirements

ISO 42001 requirements in Jordan

Strip away the vocabulary and ISO/IEC 42001 requires a company to prove six things about how it governs the AI it builds or uses.

You know where AI is usedThe AI systems you develop, provide or use are identified, together with the role your organisation plays for each.
Leadership sets the rules for AITop management sets an AI policy and objectives, assigns accountability and provides resources for responsible use.
You assessed AI risks and impactsRisks from AI systems, and their impacts on individuals, groups and society, are assessed before and during use and then treated.
Each AI system is managed through its lifeDesign, data, testing, deployment, monitoring and retirement follow defined processes with records you can show.
Data and third parties are under controlThe quality and origin of data, and suppliers of models or components, are managed against your own requirements.
You monitor, audit and improveAI systems and the management system are monitored, audited internally and reviewed by management, with problems corrected.

In Jordan these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: ISO/IEC 42001 explained →

How Sterling gets a Jordanian company certified

How to get ISO 42001 certified in Jordan

One team from the Dubai office carries the work from scoping to certificate. Clients across Jordan are served from Sterling's Dubai office, on-site where the work needs it and remotely otherwise.

  1. Discovery call and scopeEntities, locations, regulators and target date, agreed before any proposal.
  2. Gap assessment against ISO/IEC 42001 and the Jordanian requirements that apply to youControls you already run for your regulators and customers are reused, not rebuilt.
  3. Your system built with your team in EffivityRisks, controls, evidence, incidents and reviews in one live system the auditor can see.
  4. Internal audit, management review and corrective actionsYour internal auditors trained by Sterling; the evidence proven before the certification body arrives.
  5. Certification body stage 1 and stage 2, then surveillanceAn accredited body audits and decides. Sterling supports the audits and the three-year cycle.

Time

How long does ISO 42001 certification take in Jordan?

There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Jordan these are the factors that set the timeline.

  • Inventory of AI systems and use cases in scope
  • Maturity of model governance, testing and monitoring
  • Time to assess impact and run an internal audit
  • Certification body readiness, as accredited certification for this standard is still developing

Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.

Cost

How much does ISO 42001 certification cost in Jordan?

The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the certification body’s audit fees, which are quoted separately. In Jordan these factors move both.

  • Number of AI systems, teams and staff in scope
  • Testing and monitoring tooling
  • Certification body audit fees, quoted separately from consulting
  • Legal review for data protection

Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.

Choosing a partner

ISO 42001 consultants and certification bodies in Jordan

Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an accredited certification body then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.

  • Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers ISO 42001 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
  • Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Jordan are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
  • Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
  • Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.

Laws and regulations that drive ISO 42001 in Jordan (3)

InstrumentHow it treats the standard
Central Bank of Jordan — Artificial Intelligence FrameworkContext
Sets governance expectations for artificial intelligence in financial institutions; it does not name ISO/IEC 42001.
Personal Data Protection Law No. (24) of 2023Context
Applies to personal data processed by AI systems.
Jordan Accreditation System – Accreditation Unit (JAS-AU) and the recognition arrangement's member listAccreditation
The arrangement's member list dated 31 December 2025 shows JAS-AU with a product certification scope and no management systems scope, so the accreditation behind a ISO/IEC 42001 certificate must be checked; this is not a mandate.

Accreditation, audit language and remote audits in Jordan

Use a certification body accredited for ISO/IEC 42001 by an accreditation body within the international mutual recognition arrangements (Global ACI — Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated, formerly the IAF MLA); check that the accreditation scope covers the standard and your sector. The arrangement's member list dated 31 December 2025 shows Jordan's accreditation unit, JAS-AU, with a product certification scope and no management systems scope, so ask which accreditation body stands behind the certificate. The accredited certification body decides, not Sterling. Edition and transition details: ISO/IEC 42001 hub →

Audit language

Arabic and English are both used in audits and documents; agree the audit language, any interpreter and the language of controlled documents with the certification body at application, and say early if interviews will run in Arabic.

Remote and on-site

Remote audit elements are at the certification body's discretion under its accreditation rules; plants, warehouses and operational sites are normally visited on-site.

ISO 42001 in Jordan: questions clients ask

Has the Central Bank of Jordan issued rules on artificial intelligence?

It published an Artificial Intelligence Framework for financial institutions that sets governance expectations. The framework does not name ISO/IEC 42001, so certification is voluntary. A bank can use the standard to organise inventory, risk, oversight and monitoring, and should confirm its mapping against the framework text with the Bank.

Does the data protection law apply to AI models in Jordan?

The Personal Data Protection Law No. (24) of 2023 applies wherever personal data is processed, including training and operating models. An AI management system should therefore record data sources, purposes and controls. ISO/IEC 42001 does not establish legal compliance, so involve counsel on lawful basis and individuals' rights.

Is ISO/IEC 42001 certification available in Jordan yet?

Accredited certification for this standard is still developing worldwide, so check each candidate's accreditation scope in writing. Certification bodies, never Sterling, issue certificates, and the end-of-2025 listing shows Jordan's accreditation unit for product certification only. Readiness work remains useful before any audit.

What should a small Jordanian software firm do first?

List every AI system and use case, name an owner for each, and assess impact on people and the business. Next set testing, monitoring and incident steps proportionate to risk. These records form the base of an AI management system and answer customer questionnaires long before any audit.
