In short

ISO 20000-1 certification in Indonesia at a glance

One Indonesian instrument bears on ISO/IEC 20000-1. It does not name the standard. So why do buyers in Indonesia keep asking for the certificate?

Service management certification tends to follow outsourcing. When an Indonesian bank, payment company or online platform relies on an external provider for hosting, networks or application support, its own obligations travel down the contract: BSSN's regulation on electronic system security covers private operators of trade and financial-transaction platforms, and banks answer to OJK for how their IT providers perform. ISO/IEC 20000-1 is how a provider shows that incidents, changes, capacity, continuity and suppliers are managed as a system rather than by individual effort. No Indonesian regulator reviewed for this page requires the certificate; customers do, in requests for proposal and outsourcing due diligence. Certification is issued by a certification body accredited for the standard, by Komite Akreditasi Nasional (KAN) or another body within the international recognition arrangements. Sterling's Jakarta office implements the service management system, often alongside ISO/IEC 27001 so one set of processes serves both audits. The route and frequent questions follow.

The need

Who needs ISO 20000-1 in Indonesia, and what happens without it

In Indonesia the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.

  • Operators of electronic systems for trade and financial transactionsBSSN's regulation covers these private-scope operators; reliable service management supports their obligations.
  • Data-centre, cloud and managed-service providersEnterprise buyers ask for evidence of mature service management.

Requirements

ISO 20000-1 requirements in Indonesia

Strip away the vocabulary and ISO/IEC 20000-1 requires a company to prove six things about how it plans and delivers IT services.

Services are defined and agreedA service catalogue and service-level agreements state what you deliver and to what standard.
Management owns the service systemTop management sets the service management policy and objectives and provides the people and tools to meet them.
Changes and releases are controlledChanges, releases and deployments are assessed, approved and tracked so live services stay stable.
Incidents and problems are resolvedIncidents and requests are handled to agreed targets, and recurring problems are traced back to their cause.
Capacity, continuity and security are plannedCapacity, availability, continuity and information security are planned so agreed service commitments can be met.
Suppliers and performance are reviewedSuppliers and internal teams are managed against agreements, performance is reported, and the system is audited and reviewed.

In Indonesia these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: ISO/IEC 20000-1 explained →

How Sterling gets an Indonesian company certified

How to get ISO 20000-1 certified in Indonesia

One team from the Jakarta office carries the work from scoping to certificate. Jakarta and Java on-site from the Jakarta office; other islands on-site by arrangement; remote delivery for distributed teams.

  1. Discovery call and scopeEntities, locations, regulators and target date, agreed before any proposal.
  2. Gap assessment against ISO/IEC 20000-1 and the Indonesian requirements that apply to youControls you already run for your regulators and customers are reused, not rebuilt.
  3. Your system built with your team in EffivityRisks, controls, evidence, incidents and reviews in one live system the auditor can see.
  4. Internal audit, management review and corrective actionsYour internal auditors trained by Sterling; the evidence proven before the certification body arrives.
  5. Certification body stage 1 and stage 2, then surveillanceAn accredited body audits and decides. Sterling supports the audits and the three-year cycle.
Included in every engagement

The Sterling Promise: 100% on-time completion, 100% success, 8,100+ client engagements.Sterling does not certify. Certification decisions stay with independent bodies.

Time

How long does ISO 20000-1 certification take in Indonesia?

There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Indonesia these are the factors that set the timeline.

  • Number of services and service locations in scope
  • Maturity of incident, change and problem management
  • Supplier and capacity management records
  • Certification body scheduling around Ramadan, Idul Fitri and cuti bersama

Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.

Cost

How much does ISO 20000-1 certification cost in Indonesia?

The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the certification body’s audit fees, which are quoted separately. In Indonesia these factors move both.

  • Number of services and sites in scope
  • Certification body audit fees quoted separately from consulting
  • Tooling for service management records
  • Integration with ISO/IEC 27001

Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.

Choosing a partner

ISO 20000-1 consultants and certification bodies in Indonesia

Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an accredited certification body then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.

  • Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers ISO 20000-1 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
  • Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Indonesia are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
  • Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
  • Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.

Laws and regulations that drive ISO 20000-1 in Indonesia (1)

    InstrumentHow it treats the standard
Peraturan BSSN Nomor 8 Tahun 2020 — scope of electronic system operatorsExpected in practice
Private-scope operators include portals for financial transactions, trade and personal data processing, which must secure their systems under the regulation; this standard is not cited.

"Expected in practice" means the instrument asks for the outcomes ISO/IEC 20000-1 covers without naming a standard, and ISO/IEC 20000-1 is what buyers and regulators commonly accept as evidence of them.

Accreditation, audit language and remote audits in Indonesia

Use a certification body accredited for this standard by Komite Akreditasi Nasional (KAN) or by another accreditation body within the international mutual recognition arrangements (Global ACI — Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated, formerly the IAF MLA); check that the accreditation scope covers the standard and your sector. No body is named here unless its accreditation for Indonesia has been verified. Edition and transition details: ISO/IEC 20000-1 hub →

    Audit language

Audits are conducted in Bahasa Indonesia or English; agree the audit and document language with the certification body at application.

    Remote and on-site

Remote audit elements are at the certification body's discretion under its accreditation rules; operational sites are normally visited on-site.

ISO 20000-1 in Indonesia: questions clients ask

Is ISO 20000-1 required by Indonesian regulators?

No regulator that cites ISO 20000-1 was verified for Indonesia. Demand tends to come from outsourcing contracts, where a customer wants proof that IT services are managed to a recognised standard. Read your contract terms, then confirm any sector rule with your regulator.

Can ISO 20000-1 be combined with ISO 27001?

Yes. Both standards share management system clauses, so documents, internal audit and management review can serve each, and one integrated audit is possible. Plan the combined scope early, so the service catalogue and the security scope match. Doing so also reduces the number of separate audits your teams have to prepare for in each cycle.

    Who issues the certificate?

An accredited certification body issues it. Choose one accredited by Komite Akreditasi Nasional (KAN) or another body within the international recognition arrangements, then check that its accreditation covers IT service management and your sector. None is named here without verification.
