AS9100 certification in Indonesia at a glance

In Indonesia, AS9100 is asked for by buyers and schemes rather than required by law. The drivers below show where the pressure comes from.

Aerospace customers check one database before they check anything else: IAQG's OASIS, which lists suppliers certified to the 9100 series together with their certification and accreditation bodies. For Indonesian machining shops, composite and component makers and special-process suppliers, appearing there is what turns an enquiry into a purchase order. In Batam, PT Batam Aero Teknik features among the top investors that Indonesia's special economic zone programme lists. AS9100 adds to ISO 9001 the disciplines aerospace programmes demand — configuration management, first article inspection, control of special processes, counterfeit parts prevention and product safety. Certificates are issued only by certification bodies operating under IAQG rules with the relevant accreditation, never by a consultant. Sterling's Jakarta office helps suppliers extend an existing quality system or build one from the ground up, and prepares the evidence an aerospace auditor samples. Questions Indonesian suppliers ask most are answered below.

The need

Who needs AS9100 in Indonesia, and what happens without it

In Indonesia the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.

  • Component manufacturers supplying aircraft and engine programmesAerospace customers source from suppliers listed in IAQG OASIS.
  • Precision machining and special-process suppliersPrimes flow AS9100 down through purchase orders.

Requirements

AS9100 requirements in Indonesia

Strip away the vocabulary and AS9100 asks a supplier to prove six things about delivering aerospace products safely and on time.

Product safety is managedRisks to product safety are identified and controlled throughout the product's life, from design to delivery.
Configuration is under controlThe approved configuration of each product is identified, changes are controlled and records match what was delivered.
Counterfeit parts are kept outPurchasing, inspection and supplier controls stop counterfeit or suspect parts from entering the product.
Operational risks are managedRisks to delivery and product conformity are assessed and controlled during planning and production.
Production is proven before it runsProduction process verification, such as first article inspection, confirms that processes can make conforming product.
Delivery and conformity are measuredOn-time delivery and product conformity are measured, and human factors are considered when nonconformities are investigated.

In Indonesia these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: AS9100 explained →

How Sterling gets an Indonesian company certified

How to get AS9100 certified in Indonesia

One team from the Jakarta office carries the work from scoping to certificate. Jakarta and Java on-site from the Jakarta office; other islands on-site by arrangement; remote delivery for distributed teams.

    1. Discovery call and scopeEntities, locations, regulators and target date, agreed before any proposal.
    2. Gap assessment against AS9100 and the Indonesian requirements that apply to youControls you already run for your regulators and customers are reused, not rebuilt.
    3. Your system built with your team in EffivityRisks, controls, evidence, incidents and reviews in one live system the auditor can see.
    4. Internal audit, management review and corrective actionsYour internal auditors trained by Sterling; the evidence proven before the certification body arrives.
    5. Certification body stage 1 and stage 2, then surveillanceAn accredited body audits and decides. Sterling supports the audits and the three-year cycle.

      Time

How long does AS9100 certification take in Indonesia?

There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Indonesia these are the factors that set the timeline.

      • Existing ISO 9001 system and its maturity
      • Number of product families and special processes
      • First article inspection and configuration records available

Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.

      Cost

How much does AS9100 certification cost in Indonesia?

The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the certification body’s audit fees, which are quoted separately. In Indonesia these factors move both.

      • Number of sites and special processes in scope
      • Certification body audit fees quoted separately from consulting
      • Extent of customer-specific requirements

Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.

        Choosing a partner

AS9100 consultants and certification bodies in Indonesia

Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an accredited certification body then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.

        • Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers AS9100 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
        • Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Indonesia are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
        • Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
        • Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.

Laws and regulations that drive AS9100 in Indonesia (1)

AS9100 certificates are issued by certification bodies operating under IAQG rules with the relevant accreditation; results appear in OASIS. No body is named here unless verified. Edition and transition details: AS9100 hub →

          Audit language

Audits are conducted in Bahasa Indonesia or English; agree the audit and document language with the certification body at application.

Remote audit elements are at the certification body's discretion under its accreditation rules; operational sites are normally visited on-site.

AS9100 in Indonesia: questions clients ask

How do aerospace customers check our certificate?

Customers look the supplier up in OASIS, the IAQG's Online Aerospace Supplier Information System. It lists suppliers certified or registered under IAQG rules to the 9100 series, together with their certification and accreditation bodies. Make sure your certification body records your certificate there, and ask your customer whether it expects any further evidence.

Do we need ISO 9001 first?

Not as a separate step, but it helps. AS9100 contains the ISO 9001 requirements and adds aerospace-specific ones, so a mature ISO 9001 system already covers much of the ground. Starting from it shortens the route to the aerospace additions, rather than building everything at once.

Is AS9100 right for maintenance organisations?

Usually not on its own. Maintenance organisations normally look at AS9110, the variant written for that activity, instead of AS9100. The deciding factor is what your customer requires, so ask the customer which standard it expects before you commit to a scope.
