ISO 22301 certification in Egypt at a glance
In Egypt, ISO 22301 is asked for by buyers and schemes rather than required by law. The drivers below show where the pressure comes from.
Egyptian banks, telecom operators and outsourcing firms all promise availability, and customers increasingly ask them to prove it. ISO 22301 is the international standard for business continuity management: impact analysis, recovery strategies, plans and rehearsals. The Central Bank of Egypt's cybersecurity sector includes a computer emergency response team for the financial sector, which shows how seriously incident response and recovery are taken in banking, although its page does not name the standard. Global ACI's entry for the Egyptian Accreditation Council does not list ISO 22301, so ask any certification body which accreditation backs its certificate. Healthcare providers, pharmaceutical makers, food producers and logistics firms face their own interruption risks. Sterling's Dubai office helps organisations run business impact analyses, write plans, facilitate exercises and prepare for audit, with Effivity and Sterling Academy included with the engagement.
Who needs ISO 22301 in Egypt, and what happens without it
In Egypt the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.
- Banks, fintechs and payment firmsBanks run incident response and recovery through the Central Bank's cybersecurity sector, and continuity of critical services is a board concern.
- Telecom, data-centre and cloud providersCustomers depend on their uptime and ask to see tested recovery plans.
- Healthcare providers and pharmaceutical manufacturersInterruptions affect patients and the cold chain, so continuity planning is expected.
- Outsourcing firms serving overseas clientsClients ask for evidence that service can continue through power, network or site loss.
- Food producers and logistics operatorsSupply-chain interruptions and recalls need rehearsed responses.

Take the ISO 22301 readiness checkISO 22301 requirements in Egypt
Strip away the vocabulary and ISO 22301 requires a company to prove six things about how it keeps operating when something goes wrong.
In Egypt these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: ISO 22301 explained →

How long does ISO 22301 certification take in Egypt?
There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Egypt these are the factors that set the timeline.
- Scope of critical services and sites
- Business impact analysis and recovery objectives
- Exercise and test evidence to generate
- Certification body scheduling around the Eid periods
Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.
How much does ISO 22301 certification cost in Egypt?
The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the certification body’s audit fees, which are quoted separately. In Egypt these factors move both.
- Number of sites, services and dependencies in scope
- Recovery capability, backup and alternate-site arrangements
- Certification body audit fees, quoted separately from consulting
- Exercise facilitation and training
Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.
ISO 22301 consultants and certification bodies in Egypt
Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an accredited certification body then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.
- Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers ISO 22301 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
- Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Egypt are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
- Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
- Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.

| Instrument | How it treats the standard |
|---|---|
| Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC) recognition entries | Accreditation Global ACI's entry for EGAC does not list ISO 22301 among its management-system entries, so ask the certification body which accreditation backs the certificate. |

Accreditation, audit language and remote audits in Egypt
Use a certification body accredited for ISO 22301 by the Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC) or by an accreditation body within the international mutual recognition arrangements (Global ACI — Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated, formerly the IAF MLA); check that the accreditation scope covers the standard and your sector. Global ACI's entry for EGAC does not list ISO 22301 among its management-system entries, so ask the certification body which accreditation backs an ISO 22301 certificate and whether your customer or regulator accepts it. The accredited certification body decides, not Sterling. Edition and transition details: ISO 22301 hub →
Audit language
Arabic is the official language and English is common in business; agree the audit language, any interpreter and the language of controlled documents with the certification body at application, and say early if shop-floor interviews will run in Arabic.
Remote and on-site
Remote audit elements are at the certification body's discretion; recovery sites, data centres and operations rooms in scope are normally visited, while plans, test records and impact analyses can be reviewed remotely.
ISO 22301 in Egypt: questions clients ask
Is ISO 22301 certification available through an Egyptian accredited body?
Not as a listed entry. The Egyptian Accreditation Council's page at Global ACI shows no ISO 22301 recognition, so do not assume a local accredited route. Bodies accredited abroad audit in Egypt, and acceptance by your regulator or customer is what counts. Request the body's accreditation certificate and scope, and confirm acceptance in writing where a contract depends on it.
Does the Central Bank of Egypt require ISO 22301?
Its cybersecurity page describes incident response and recovery for the financial sector but does not name ISO 22301. Banks should read the Bank's frameworks and ask supervisors what continuity evidence they expect. A certificate can support a bank's own resilience programme, though it is not shown here as a condition.
What does a business impact analysis involve?
Listing critical services, working out how long each can be down and what it costs, and identifying the people, systems and suppliers each depends on. The results set recovery objectives. Auditors test whether plans match those objectives, so interviews with process owners matter more than a long document. Start with the services your customers would miss first.
How often must continuity plans be tested?
The standard expects exercises and tests at planned intervals and records of results, but sets no fixed calendar; your risk and customers shape the schedule. A tabletop exercise is a sensible start, followed by technical recovery tests. Auditors want evidence that lessons from each test changed the plans.
