In short

ISO 20000-1 certification in Czechia at a glance

Security measures in Act No. 264/2025 Coll. is the instrument itself: it applies to the organisations within its scope, and buyers and partners in Czechia ask for evidence that you meet it.

Service management reaches Czech suppliers through contracts more than through statute. Act No. 264/2025 Coll. lists change management, supplier management, asset management, incident handling and business continuity among the measures for providers in its higher-obligations regime, and regulated customers pass those expectations to the IT firms that run their systems. In finance, ČNB supervises DORA, which covers ICT third-party risk, so managed service providers, shared-services centres and cloud vendors face questions on service levels, incidents and exit. Neither the Act nor ČNB's DORA page names ISO/IEC 20000-1, and certification only evidences the processes, so confirm scope with the customer. Certification is issued by an accredited body, not by Sterling. Sterling's Frankfurt office aligns service catalogue, incident and change processes with ISO/IEC 27001, using Effivity and Sterling Academy that come with the engagement.

The need

Who needs ISO 20000-1 in Czechia, and what happens without it

In Czechia the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.

  • Managed service providers and IT outsourcersRegulated customers pass supplier-management duties down to them.
  • Shared-services and service-desk centresClients ask for a certified service management system as evidence of control.
  • Software and cloud providers to financial entitiesDORA places ICT third-party risk on ČNB-supervised customers, who then ask suppliers for assurance.
  • Internal IT departments of large organisationsA recognised framework organises change, incident and service-level processes.

Requirements

ISO 20000-1 requirements in Czechia

Strip away the vocabulary and ISO/IEC 20000-1 requires a company to prove six things about how it plans and delivers IT services.

Services are defined and agreedA service catalogue and service-level agreements state what you deliver and to what standard.
Management owns the service systemTop management sets the service management policy and objectives and provides the people and tools to meet them.
Changes and releases are controlledChanges, releases and deployments are assessed, approved and tracked so live services stay stable.
Incidents and problems are resolvedIncidents and requests are handled to agreed targets, and recurring problems are traced back to their cause.
Capacity, continuity and security are plannedCapacity, availability, continuity and information security are planned so agreed service commitments can be met.
Suppliers and performance are reviewedSuppliers and internal teams are managed against agreements, performance is reported, and the system is audited and reviewed.

In Czechia these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: ISO/IEC 20000-1 explained →

How Sterling gets a Czech company certified

Time

How long does ISO 20000-1 certification take in Czechia?

There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Czechia these are the factors that set the timeline.

  • Scope of services and customer contracts
  • Maturity of incident, change and service-level processes
  • Supplier and subcontractor management
  • Certification body scheduling

Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.

Cost

How much does ISO 20000-1 certification cost in Czechia?

The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the certification body’s audit fees, which are quoted separately. In Czechia these factors move both.

  • Services and locations in scope
  • Process and tooling remediation
  • Certification body audit fees, quoted separately
  • Integration with ISO/IEC 27001

Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.

Choosing a partner

ISO 20000-1 consultants and certification bodies in Czechia

Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an accredited certification body then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.

  • Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers ISO 20000-1 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
  • Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Czechia are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
  • Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
  • Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.

Laws and regulations that drive ISO 20000-1 in Czechia (3)

    InstrumentHow it treats the standard
Security measures in Act No. 264/2025 Coll. The instrument itself
For providers in the higher-obligations regime the listed organisational measures start with an information security management system and include requirements for top management, risk management, supplier management, business continuity management and cyber security audit.
Regulation (EU) 2022/2554 (DORA), supervised in Czechia by the Czech National Bank (ČNB)EU law
ČNB says DORA took effect on 17 January 2025 for banks, insurers, investment firms and other financial entities and covers ICT risk management, incident reporting, resilience testing and ICT third-party risk; ČNB checks compliance through its supervision.
    Directive (EU) 2022/2555 (NIS 2 Directive)EU law
Sets the baseline for cybersecurity risk-management measures and reporting obligations that the Czech Act implements.

Accreditation, audit language and remote audits in Czechia

Choose a certification body accredited for this standard by ČIA, the Czech national accreditation body, or by another accreditation body within the international mutual recognition arrangements (Global ACI — Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated, formerly the IAF MLA). Check that the body's accreditation scope covers the standard and your sector. No body is named here. Edition and transition details: ISO/IEC 20000-1 hub →

    Audit language

Czech is the official language and English is commonly used in business. Agree the audit language and the language of controlled documents with the certification body at application, and follow any language requirement in a contract or a regulator's procedure.

    Remote and on-site

Audits are normally on-site with some remote review of service tooling, records and reports.

ISO 20000-1 in Czechia: questions clients ask

Does Czech law require ISO/IEC 20000-1?

Neither the Act nor ČNB's DORA page names it. The cyber security Act requires change management, supplier management and incident handling among its higher-regime measures, and DORA covers ICT third-party risk for financial entities, but both are met through duties, not a particular certificate. ISO/IEC 20000-1 can evidence service processes to customers who ask for it.

Which measures in the Czech Act overlap with ISO/IEC 20000-1?

The higher-regime list includes change management, supplier management, asset management, business continuity and handling of cyber security events and incidents. Those are process areas a service management system also manages. The overlap is conceptual, so map each requirement to your records rather than assuming certification discharges any duty.

Why do financial customers ask Czech IT suppliers for service management evidence?

Because DORA, supervised by ČNB, covers ICT risk management, incident reporting, resilience testing and ICT third-party risk for banks, insurers and other financial entities. Their suppliers inherit questions on service levels, incidents and exit. A certified system answers part of that, though the customer decides what evidence it accepts.

Which accreditation should the certification body hold?

Accreditation by ČIA or an equivalent body for management system certification, with a scope covering IT service management. ČIA's own list names seven standards, and ISO/IEC 20000-1 is not among them, so ask the certification body to show its accreditation certificate and confirm the scope before you apply.
