In short

AS9100 certification in Bahrain at a glance

In Bahrain, AS9100 is asked for by buyers and schemes rather than required by law. The drivers below show where the pressure comes from.

Aerospace work reaches Bahrain through customers and prime contractors, not through legislation: no Bahraini authority requires AS9100, and the government tenders decree, Legislative Decree No. 36 of 2002, has no bearing on it. Precision machinists and special process providers in areas such as the Bahrain International Investment Park and Salman Industrial City, along with packaging and logistics suppliers, meet the requirement when a quote involves aviation parts. The standard contains ISO 9001 in full and adds configuration management, product safety, counterfeit parts prevention and tighter control of special processes. Certificates are issued by certification bodies authorised under the aerospace sector scheme's own rules, so confirm a body's authorisation with the scheme owner, and its accredited scope with the accreditation body, before you accept a proposal. Sterling's Dubai office closes gaps against the customer's flow-down requirements and trains your team through Sterling Academy, with Effivity included in the engagement.

The need

Who needs AS9100 in Bahrain, and what happens without it

In Bahrain the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.

  • Machine shops and precision manufacturers supplying aerospaceAerospace customers require AS9100 from suppliers in their chain.
  • Special process providers such as coating, heat treatment and non-destructive testingPrime contractors flow requirements down to process suppliers.
  • Logistics and packaging suppliers to aviation customersCustomers audit traceability and handling.
  • Existing ISO 9001 manufacturers diversifying into aerospaceThe standard builds on a quality management system.

AS9100 requirements in Bahrain

Strip away the vocabulary and AS9100 asks a supplier to prove six things about delivering aerospace products safely and on time.

Product safety is managedRisks to product safety are identified and controlled throughout the product's life, from design to delivery.
Configuration is under controlThe approved configuration of each product is identified, changes are controlled and records match what was delivered.
Counterfeit parts are kept outPurchasing, inspection and supplier controls stop counterfeit or suspect parts from entering the product.
Operational risks are managedRisks to delivery and product conformity are assessed and controlled during planning and production.
Production is proven before it runsProduction process verification, such as first article inspection, confirms that processes can make conforming product.
Delivery and conformity are measuredOn-time delivery and product conformity are measured, and human factors are considered when nonconformities are investigated.

In Bahrain these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: AS9100 explained →

How Sterling gets a Bahraini company certified

How to get AS9100 certified in Bahrain

One team from the Dubai office carries the work from scoping to certificate. Clients across Bahrain are served from Sterling's Dubai office (GCC), on-site where the work needs it and remotely otherwise.

    1. Discovery call and scopeEntities, locations, regulators and target date, agreed before any proposal.
    2. Gap assessment against AS9100 and the Bahraini requirements that apply to youControls you already run for your regulators and customers are reused, not rebuilt.
    3. Your system built with your team in EffivityRisks, controls, evidence, incidents and reviews in one live system the auditor can see.
    4. Internal audit, management review and corrective actionsYour internal auditors trained by Sterling; the evidence proven before the certification body arrives.
    5. Certification body stage 1 and stage 2, then surveillanceAn accredited body audits and decides. Sterling supports the audits and the three-year cycle.

      Time

How long does AS9100 certification take in Bahrain?

There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Bahrain these are the factors that set the timeline.

      • Gap to ISO 9001 and the aerospace additions such as configuration management and product safety
      • Special process control and first article inspection records
      • Number of sites and customer flow-down requirements
      • Certification body scheduling around Ramadan, the Eid holidays and Friday as the weekly day of rest

Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.

      Cost

How much does AS9100 certification cost in Bahrain?

The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the certification body’s audit fees, which are quoted separately. In Bahrain these factors move both.

      • Number of sites and part families
      • Inspection, traceability and measurement upgrades
      • Certification body fees quoted separately from consulting

Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.

        Choosing a partner

AS9100 consultants and certification bodies in Bahrain

Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an accredited certification body then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.

        • Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers AS9100 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
        • Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Bahrain are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
        • Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
        • Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.

Laws and regulations that drive AS9100 in Bahrain (3)

          InstrumentHow it treats the standard
Bahrain Economic Development Board — industrial and logistics zones (Bahrain International Investment Park, Bahrain Logistics Zone, Salman Industrial City)Market driver
Industrial parks host manufacturers and processors that could serve aerospace chains; no Bahraini scheme requires AS9100.
Legislative Decree No. (36) of 2002 with respect to Regulating Government Tenders, Bids, Procurements and Sales (as amended)Market driver
The text checked sets no AS9100 requirement; each tender sets its own criteria.
GCC Accreditation Centre (GAC) — recorded accreditation and mutual recognition scopesAccreditation
GAC's recorded scopes are ISO 9001 and other standards; AS9100 certification follows the aerospace scheme's own rules, so confirm a body's authorisation with the scheme owner.

Accreditation, audit language and remote audits in Bahrain

AS9100 certificates come from certification bodies authorised under the aerospace sector scheme's own rules, which build on ISO 9001 accreditation; confirm a body's authorisation with the scheme owner and its accreditation scope with the accreditation body. The GCC Accreditation Centre serves Bahrain. No body is named here. Edition and transition details: AS9100 hub →

          Audit language

Arabic is the official language and English is the working language of most business; agree the audit language and the language of controlled documents with the certification body at application, and follow any Arabic-language requirement a regulator or customer sets.

          Remote and on-site

Remote audit elements are at the certification body's discretion under its accreditation rules; operational sites are normally visited on-site.

AS9100 in Bahrain: questions clients ask

Is AS9100 required by any Bahraini authority?

None reviewed does. The requirement comes from aerospace customers, who set it for their supply chains, so your purchase order terms and supplier quality manual are the documents to read. Ask the customer which revision it expects and whether any additional flow-down requirements, such as approved special process lists, apply to you.

How does AS9100 differ from ISO 9001?

AS9100 contains the full ISO 9001 requirements and adds aerospace specifics such as configuration management, product safety, counterfeit parts prevention, on-time delivery performance and tighter control of special processes. A company with a mature ISO 9001 system closes mainly those added requirements, which is why one integrated system is cheaper than two.

Who may issue an AS9100 certificate for a Bahraini manufacturer?

A certification body authorised under the aerospace scheme's rules. Accreditation to ISO 9001 alone is not enough to settle that, so ask the body for its authorisation and accredited scope, then confirm both with the scheme owner and the accreditation body before you accept an audit proposal.

Can special process suppliers in Bahrain be asked to hold AS9100?

They can be, depending on the prime contractor. Some customers accept ISO 9001 plus their own process approval, while others expect AS9100 from every tier. Ask your direct customer what it requires, because that answer decides whether you need the full certificate or a customer approval route.
