ISO 30415 client experienceWhat it is
What is ISO 30415?
ISO 30415, Human resource management — Diversity and inclusion, is an international standard from ISO technical committee ISO/TC 260. ISO describes it as guidance on diversity and inclusion for organisations, including their governance body, leaders, workforce and recognised representatives, and other stakeholders.
It is written to scale to any organisation in the public, private, government or non-governmental sectors, whatever its size, industry, growth phase or country-specific requirements. In practice it gives leadership a structured way to decide what inclusion means for the organisation, build it into people processes and track whether it is working.
Current edition. ISO 30415:2021 is the first edition, published in May 2021. ISO lists the standard as under systematic review, with the review closed in September 2026; the outcome will show on its iso.org page.
Who it is for
Who uses ISO 30415?
Nobody is required to follow ISO 30415, so the reasons are the organisation's own. Clients come to Sterling from four starting points:
- Leadership has made a commitment. The board or executive team has promised progress on inclusion and wants a recognised framework behind it.
- Customers or investors are asking. Tender questionnaires, ESG ratings and investor queries ask how the organisation manages diversity and inclusion.
- HR processes feel inconsistent. Recruitment, promotion and pay decisions vary by manager or country, and nobody can show the pattern.
- A group wants one approach. Companies across several countries want shared principles with room for local law and culture.
Inclusion shows up in everyday decisions about who is hired, heard and promoted. The work has to reach those decisions.
Requirements
What does ISO 30415 cover?
ISO 30415 is guidance: ISO describes recommended actions, suggested measures and potential outcomes rather than requirements. Its clause structure is not reproduced here; the list below is what Sterling's work covers when applying it.
- Accountability: the roles of the governance body and leaders, and who owns progress.
- Policy and strategy: a diversity and inclusion commitment linked to the organisation's objectives.
- People processes: recruitment, development, pay, promotion and exit reviewed for fairness.
- Products, services and suppliers: where inclusion reaches customers and the supply chain.
- Measures and reporting: indicators chosen, collected and reviewed, with actions taken on the results.
What does useful ISO 30415 evidence look like?
A policy leadership has approved, decisions on recruitment and promotion that can be explained, indicators reviewed at management meetings, training records, and actions taken where the data shows a gap. We help identify what you need and keep it in Effivity.
