In short

AS9100 certification in Vietnam at a glance

In Vietnam, AS9100 is asked for by buyers and schemes rather than required by law. The drivers below show where the pressure comes from.

Aerospace primes check a supplier in one place before anything else: the IAQG's OASIS database, which lists organisations certified to the 9100 series together with their certification and accreditation bodies. For Vietnamese precision machining, electronics and composite manufacturers — including firms in the precision mechanics and automation cluster of Saigon Hi-Tech Park — an AS9100 entry in OASIS is the entry ticket to aerospace supply chains. The driver is the customer and the IAQG scheme. AS9100 adds aviation, space and defence requirements to ISO 9001, including configuration management, product safety, counterfeit parts prevention and first article inspection. Certificates are issued only by certification bodies operating under IAQG rules with the relevant accreditation. Sterling, with 8,100+ client engagements in 60+ countries, prepares the quality system, special-process controls and internal audits from its Ho Chi Minh City office, with Effivity and Sterling Academy included. Vietnam-specific points follow.

The need

Who needs AS9100 in Vietnam, and what happens without it

In Vietnam the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.

  • Precision machining and automation manufacturersAerospace primes check supplier certification in IAQG OASIS.
  • Electronics and new-materials producers in hi-tech parksAerospace programmes require 9100-series certification from suppliers.
  • Industrial park manufacturers entering aerospace supply chainsOASIS listing is a prerequisite for many buyers.

AS9100 requirements in Vietnam

Strip away the vocabulary and AS9100 asks a supplier to prove six things about delivering aerospace products safely and on time.

Product safety is managedRisks to product safety are identified and controlled throughout the product's life, from design to delivery.
Configuration is under controlThe approved configuration of each product is identified, changes are controlled and records match what was delivered.
Counterfeit parts are kept outPurchasing, inspection and supplier controls stop counterfeit or suspect parts from entering the product.
Operational risks are managedRisks to delivery and product conformity are assessed and controlled during planning and production.
Production is proven before it runsProduction process verification, such as first article inspection, confirms that processes can make conforming product.
Delivery and conformity are measuredOn-time delivery and product conformity are measured, and human factors are considered when nonconformities are investigated.

In Vietnam these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: AS9100 explained →

How Sterling gets a Vietnamese company certified

How to get AS9100 certified in Vietnam

One team from the Ho Chi Minh City office carries the work from scoping to certificate. Delivery across Vietnam from the Ho Chi Minh City office, on-site and remote.

    1. Discovery call and scopeEntities, locations, regulators and target date, agreed before any proposal.
    2. Gap assessment against AS9100 and the Vietnamese requirements that apply to youControls you already run for your regulators and customers are reused, not rebuilt.
    3. Your system built with your team in EffivityRisks, controls, evidence, incidents and reviews in one live system the auditor can see.
    4. Internal audit, management review and corrective actionsYour internal auditors trained by Sterling; the evidence proven before the certification body arrives.
    5. Certification body stage 1 and stage 2, then surveillanceAn accredited body audits and decides. Sterling supports the audits and the three-year cycle.

      Time

How long does AS9100 certification take in Vietnam?

There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Vietnam these are the factors that set the timeline.

      • Special processes and first article inspection evidence
      • Customer-specific requirements of the aerospace buyer
      • Number of provinces, industrial parks and sites in scope
      • Scheduling around the Tết break

Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.

      Cost

How much does AS9100 certification cost in Vietnam?

The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the certification body’s audit fees, which are quoted separately. In Vietnam these factors move both.

      • Number of sites and special processes
      • Measurement and inspection equipment
      • Certification body audit fees quoted separately from consulting
      • Translation of documents between Vietnamese and English where auditors or parent companies need both

Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.

        Choosing a partner

AS9100 consultants and certification bodies in Vietnam

Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an accredited certification body then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.

        • Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers AS9100 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
        • Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Vietnam are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
        • Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
        • Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.

AS9100 in Vietnam: questions clients ask

How do aerospace customers verify a Vietnamese supplier's AS9100?

Through IAQG OASIS, the Online Aerospace Supplier Information System. It lists suppliers certified or registered under IAQG rules to the 9100 series, alongside their certification and accreditation bodies. A buyer can look a Vietnamese supplier up there and see who certified it, instead of relying only on a certificate copy the supplier supplies.

Is there a Vietnamese regulation requiring AS9100?

No Vietnamese regulation requiring AS9100 is recorded. The pressure comes from aerospace customers and the IAQG scheme, so what matters is your buyer's supplier requirements. Ask the customer which 9100-series standard it expects and what it wants to see in OASIS, since that answer sits in its contract and not in Vietnamese law.

Can AS9100 build on an existing ISO 9001 system?

Yes. AS9100 includes the ISO 9001 requirements and adds those specific to aviation, space and defence, so a working ISO 9001 system is a sound foundation. The additional requirements still have to be written into the system and evidenced with records before an audit.
