In short

ISO 13485 certification in Abu Dhabi at a glance

Pharmaceuticals and life sciences are both on KEZAD Group's sector list, and Abu Dhabi's Department of Health sets the standards that hospitals and clinics operate under, which makes the emirate a producer and a buyer of medical products. A plant making devices, consumables, sterile packaging or components needs a quality management system that covers design controls, supplier control, risk management, traceability and post-market feedback, and ISO 13485 is the standard that regulators and hospital procurement teams recognise. An accredited certification body issues the certificate; device registration with national regulators is described on the UAE page. Sterling's Dubai office supports Abu Dhabi manufacturers, with Effivity and Sterling Academy included with the engagement.

ISO 13485 in Abu Dhabi: questions clients ask

Which Abu Dhabi zone is the natural base for a device manufacturer?

KEZAD Group lists pharmaceuticals, life sciences and polymers among its client sectors, so it is the obvious place to look for manufacturers of devices and components. Fit depends on each company's products and licence, which the zone operator and national regulators confirm.

Do Abu Dhabi hospitals require ISO 13485 from suppliers?

No such rule was found. The Department of Health sets hospital accreditation standards for the emirate, but they apply to hospitals rather than to suppliers. A procurement team may still ask for ISO 13485 evidence; ask each hospital what it accepts.
