In short

ISO 37301 certification in Thailand at a glance

In Thailand, ISO 37301 is asked for by buyers and schemes rather than required by law. The drivers below show where the pressure comes from.

Thai companies rarely face one compliance obligation at a time. The Personal Data Protection Act, B.E. 2562 (2019), the Bank of Thailand's rules for financial institutions and the National Anti-Corruption Commission's eight internal control measures all ask for governance, risk assessment, reporting and review, without naming ISO 37301. The standard offers one management system that registers those obligations, assigns owners, handles complaints and concerns, and checks that controls keep working, which suits subsidiaries of multinationals as well as regulated firms. It is voluntary and certificates come from accredited certification bodies; the National Standardization Council's recorded scopes do not include ISO 37301, so check each body's accreditation. Sterling's Manila office builds the obligations register, risk assessment and monitoring routines for Thai clients, remotely or on site, with Effivity and Sterling Academy included in the engagement. Local questions are answered below.

The need

Who needs ISO 37301 in Thailand, and what happens without it

In Thailand the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.

  • Companies that want a structured compliance function across several Thai lawsOne system can organise PDPA, sector and anti-bribery obligations in a single obligations register.
  • Groups handling public-sector interfacesThe NACC's eight measures include risk assessment, reporting mechanisms and regular review, all compliance management elements.
  • Financial institutions and regulated service providersThe Bank of Thailand's IT risk notification covers compliance and audit alongside governance and security.
  • Multinational subsidiaries in Thailand reporting to a group compliance head

Requirements

ISO 37301 requirements in Thailand

Strip away the vocabulary and ISO 37301 requires a company to prove six things about how it meets its legal and other obligations.

You know your obligationsObligations from laws, regulators, contracts and voluntary commitments are identified and kept current.
The governing body and management leadThe governing body and top management set the compliance policy and support a culture in which compliance is expected.
A compliance function has authorityA compliance function is resourced, independent enough to act and has direct access to the governing body.
Compliance risks are assessedRisks of failing to meet obligations are assessed, and controls are designed in proportion to them.
Concerns are raised and handledPeople can raise concerns without fear of retaliation, and suspected breaches are investigated and corrected.
You monitor and reportCompliance performance is monitored, reported to leadership, audited and reviewed so the system improves.

In Thailand these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: ISO 37301 explained →

How Sterling gets a Thai company certified

How to get ISO 37301 certified in Thailand

One team from the Manila office carries the work from scoping to certificate. Clients across Thailand are served from Sterling's Manila office, on site where the work needs it and remotely otherwise.

    1. Discovery call and scopeEntities, locations, regulators and target date, agreed before any proposal.
    2. Gap assessment against ISO 37301 and the Thai requirements that apply to youControls you already run for your regulators and customers are reused, not rebuilt.
    3. Your system built with your team in EffivityRisks, controls, evidence, incidents and reviews in one live system the auditor can see.
    4. Internal audit, management review and corrective actionsYour internal auditors trained by Sterling; the evidence proven before the certification body arrives.
    5. Certification body stage 1 and stage 2, then surveillanceAn accredited body audits and decides. Sterling supports the audits and the three-year cycle.

      Time

How long does ISO 37301 certification take in Thailand?

There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Thailand these are the factors that set the timeline.

      • Number of laws and contractual obligations to register
      • Existing compliance owners and reporting lines
      • Maturity of complaint and reporting channels

Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.

      Cost

How much does ISO 37301 certification cost in Thailand?

The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the certification body’s audit fees, which are quoted separately. In Thailand these factors move both.

      • Number of entities and regulated activities
      • Obligations register and monitoring work to build
      • Certification body audit fees quoted separately from consulting

Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.

        Choosing a partner

ISO 37301 consultants and certification bodies in Thailand

Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an accredited certification body then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.

        • Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers ISO 37301 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
        • Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Thailand are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
        • Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
        • Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.

Accreditation, audit language and remote audits in Thailand

Use a certification body accredited for ISO 37301 by a body within the international mutual recognition arrangements now run by Global ACI (Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated). The NSC scopes recorded for management systems do not list ISO 37301, so read the body's accreditation certificate. No body is named here. Edition and transition details: ISO 37301 hub →

          Audit language

Audits can be in English or Thai; the compliance policy and obligations register should be understood by the managers who own each obligation.

          Remote and on-site

Document review and interviews can be partly remote at the certification body's discretion; operations are sampled on site.

ISO 37301 in Thailand: questions clients ask

Is ISO 37301 required in Thailand?

No instrument we checked requires it. The NACC's guidance on corporate liability and the Bank of Thailand's IT risk notification both ask for governance and controls without naming ISO 37301. A certificate is therefore a voluntary way to show a managed compliance system; take your counsel's advice on what any law actually demands of you.

How does ISO 37301 relate to anti-bribery controls?

It covers the same management ground at a wider level: risk assessment, reporting channels, monitoring and regular review. ISO 37001 is the specialist anti-bribery standard, and many organisations run both on one platform. The NACC page names neither, so treat them as ways of evidencing the controls it describes.

Can one compliance system cover data protection too?

Yes. A compliance management system can register the Personal Data Protection Act alongside sector rules, contract terms and anti-bribery duties, assign owners and monitor each. It does not replace a privacy programme's detailed records, so read the PDPA's own requirements and ask counsel what applies to your processing.

Which accreditation should an ISO 37301 certification body hold?

A certification body for ISO 37301 should hold accreditation that names the standard; the National Standardization Council's recorded list, covering quality, environmental and energy management, does not help here. Look for accreditation from a body inside the international mutual recognition arrangements, and read the certificate rather than relying on a sales statement.
