In short

AS9100 certification in Thailand at a glance

In Thailand, AS9100 is asked for by buyers and schemes rather than required by law. The drivers below show where the pressure comes from.

Aerospace work reaches Thailand through the supply chain rather than through the statute book: we found no Thai instrument that requires AS9100, so the demand comes from primes and tier-one customers who flow the requirement down. The Eastern Economic Corridor frames the opportunity, listing aviation and logistics within its services cluster and defence within its digital cluster. AS9100 certificates come from certification bodies authorised under the aerospace sector's own scheme, so being accredited for ISO 9001 is not enough, and the National Standardization Council's recorded scopes include no aerospace scheme. Manufacturers with a working ISO 9001 system have a head start, because AS9100 adds configuration management, product safety, counterfeit-part prevention and special-process controls to it. Sterling's Manila office prepares Thai suppliers for the certification body's audit, with Effivity and Sterling Academy included in the engagement. Local questions are answered below.

The need

Who needs AS9100 in Thailand, and what happens without it

In Thailand the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.

  • Aerospace parts manufacturers and machine shopsAerospace primes flow AS9100 certification down their supply chains as a customer requirement.
  • Maintenance, repair and logistics firms around aviationThe Eastern Economic Corridor lists aviation and logistics within its services cluster.
  • Electronics, automation and defence-related suppliersThe corridor's digital cluster names intelligent electronics, automation and robotics, and defence.
  • Existing ISO 9001 manufacturers moving into aerospaceAS9100 builds on a certified quality system, so ISO 9001 holders have a head start.

AS9100 requirements in Thailand

Strip away the vocabulary and AS9100 asks a supplier to prove six things about delivering aerospace products safely and on time.

Product safety is managedRisks to product safety are identified and controlled throughout the product's life, from design to delivery.
Configuration is under controlThe approved configuration of each product is identified, changes are controlled and records match what was delivered.
Counterfeit parts are kept outPurchasing, inspection and supplier controls stop counterfeit or suspect parts from entering the product.
Operational risks are managedRisks to delivery and product conformity are assessed and controlled during planning and production.
Production is proven before it runsProduction process verification, such as first article inspection, confirms that processes can make conforming product.
Delivery and conformity are measuredOn-time delivery and product conformity are measured, and human factors are considered when nonconformities are investigated.

In Thailand these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: AS9100 explained →

How Sterling gets a Thai company certified

How to get AS9100 certified in Thailand

One team from the Manila office carries the work from scoping to certificate. Clients across Thailand are served from Sterling's Manila office, on site where the work needs it and remotely otherwise.

    1. Discovery call and scopeEntities, locations, regulators and target date, agreed before any proposal.
    2. Gap assessment against AS9100 and the Thai requirements that apply to youControls you already run for your regulators and customers are reused, not rebuilt.
    3. Your system built with your team in EffivityRisks, controls, evidence, incidents and reviews in one live system the auditor can see.
    4. Internal audit, management review and corrective actionsYour internal auditors trained by Sterling; the evidence proven before the certification body arrives.
    5. Certification body stage 1 and stage 2, then surveillanceAn accredited body audits and decides. Sterling supports the audits and the three-year cycle.
    Included in every engagement
    • End to end, from one team

    • Vulnerability assessment on ISMS engagements

The Sterling Promise: 100% on-time completion, 100% success, 8,100+ client engagements.Sterling does not certify. Certification decisions stay with independent bodies.

      Time

How long does AS9100 certification take in Thailand?

There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Thailand these are the factors that set the timeline.

      • State of the existing ISO 9001 system
      • Number of customer flow-downs and special processes
      • Availability of sector-authorised certification bodies

Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.

      Cost

How much does AS9100 certification cost in Thailand?

The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the certification body’s audit fees, which are quoted separately. In Thailand these factors move both.

      • Number of sites and special processes in scope
      • Configuration, product safety and counterfeit-part controls to add
      • Certification body audit fees quoted separately from consulting

Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.

        Choosing a partner

AS9100 consultants and certification bodies in Thailand

Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an accredited certification body then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.

        • Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers AS9100 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
        • Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Thailand are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
        • Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
        • Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.

Recorded scopes are ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 50001; no aerospace sector scheme scope is recorded for NSC.

Accreditation, audit language and remote audits in Thailand

AS9100 certificates come from certification bodies authorised under the aerospace sector's own certification scheme, not simply from any body accredited for ISO 9001. Confirm a body's authorisation on the scheme's published database and its accreditation within the accreditation arrangement within the international mutual recognition arrangements now run by Global ACI (Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated) before you engage it. No body is named here. Edition and transition details: AS9100 hub →

          Audit language

Audits can be in English or Thai; aerospace customers usually work in English, so technical records and customer flow-downs are commonly kept in English.

          Remote and on-site

Document review may be partly remote at the certification body's discretion; machining, inspection and special-process areas are audited on site.

AS9100 in Thailand: questions clients ask

Is AS9100 required by Thai law?

We found no Thai instrument that requires AS9100. The requirement normally comes from aerospace customers, who flow it down their supply chains and often name acceptable certification bodies. Confirm with the customer's quality requirements, and take your counsel's view if a contract or an export licence is involved.

Does the Eastern Economic Corridor cover aerospace?

Partly. EECO lists aviation and logistics within its services cluster, and defence within its digital cluster, so the corridor promotes both. That is an investment promotion framework, not a certification rule, and it does not state that AS9100 is required. Aerospace buyers set their own supplier requirements.

Can any ISO 9001 certification body issue AS9100?

No. AS9100 sits within the aerospace sector's own certification scheme, so the body must be authorised under it as well as accredited. The scopes recorded for Thailand's National Standardization Council are ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 50001, with no aerospace scope. Check the body's authorisation on the scheme database.

What language are aerospace audits held in?

Either, subject to the certification body and your customers. Aerospace customers usually work in English, and technical records and flow-downs are often kept that way, but Thai-language instructions help on the shop floor. Agree the audit language and document language when you apply to the certification body.
