In short

TISAX assessment in Taiwan at a glance

In Taiwan, TISAX is asked for by buyers and schemes rather than required by law. The drivers below show where the pressure comes from.

Prototype parts, design data and customer information are what TISAX exists to protect. The scheme is operated by the ENX Association and rests on the Information Security Assessment catalogue that ENX maintains and the VDA publishes. A TISAX audit provider approved by ENX assesses your chosen scope, and the label travels to business partners through the ENX exchange mechanism, so one assessment serves many customers. No Taiwanese law requires it; the demand comes from automotive partners, and ENX describes the scheme as serving supply chains in Germany, Europe and worldwide. TISAX is an assessment with labels, not a certificate. Taiwanese suppliers with an ISO/IEC 27001 system already have much of the base. Sterling prepares the scope, gap closure and evidence from its Tokyo office, drawing on 20+ years of work, with Effivity and Sterling Academy included with the engagement.

The need

Who needs TISAX in Taiwan, and what happens without it

In Taiwan the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.

  • Taiwanese suppliers to automotive customers abroadENX describes TISAX as a supply chain assurance infrastructure for Germany, Europe and worldwide.
  • Engineering and electronics firms that receive design data or prototypesTISAX was set up to protect design data, production information, customer information, prototypes and intellectual property.
  • IT, data and logistics partners in automotive chainsBusiness partners may require a TISAX label instead of auditing each supplier separately.
  • Suppliers that already hold ISO/IEC 27001An existing ISMS gives much of the base for the assessment, though the catalogue has its own requirements.

Requirements

TISAX requirements in Taiwan

Strip away the vocabulary and TISAX asks an automotive supplier to be assessed on six things about protecting its customers' information.

Information security is managedAn information security management system, measured against the VDA ISA catalogue, governs how information is protected.
Prototypes are protectedWhere the assessment objectives include it, prototype parts and vehicles are physically and organisationally protected.
Customer information is handled at the agreed levelConfidential information from vehicle makers is classified, access-restricted and handled to the protection level required.
Third parties meet the same barSuppliers and service providers handling customer information are held to the same protection requirements.
Personal data is protected where in scopeData protection requirements apply when you process personal data on behalf of customers and that objective is in scope.
Results are shared through ENXAn approved audit provider assesses you, and results are shared with customers through the ENX exchange.

In Taiwan these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: TISAX explained →

How Sterling gets a Taiwanese company through its TISAX assessment

How to get a TISAX assessment in Taiwan

One team from the Tokyo office carries the work from scoping to assessment result. Clients across Taiwan are served from Sterling's Tokyo office, on-site where the work needs it and remotely otherwise.

      Time

How long does TISAX assessment take in Taiwan?

There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Taiwan these are the factors that set the timeline.

      • Assessment objectives chosen
      • Number of locations in the assessment scope
      • Existing ISO/IEC 27001 ISMS that can be reused
      • Audit provider scheduling

Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.

      Cost

How much does TISAX assessment cost in Taiwan?

The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the audit provider’s fees, which are quoted separately. In Taiwan these factors move both.

      • Assessment level and number of objectives
      • Number of locations in scope
      • Audit provider fees quoted separately from consulting
      • Physical security upgrades where prototypes are protected

Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.

        Choosing a partner

TISAX consultants and assessors in Taiwan

Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an approved audit provider then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.

        • Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers TISAX and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
        • Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Taiwan are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
        • Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
        • Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.

Laws and regulations that drive TISAX in Taiwan (2)

          InstrumentHow it treats the standard
TISAX (ENX Association) and the VDA Information Security Assessment (ISA)Scheme rule
Based on the ISA catalogue maintained by the ENX Association and published by the VDA; requirements, third-party audits and an exchange mechanism provide proof of an assessed ISMS.
TISAX governance and audit providers (ENX FAQ)Scheme rule
The ENX Association approves audit providers and monitors the quality of implementation and assessment results; the assessment objective sets the expected level and rests on the type of data handled for a partner.

Accreditation, audit language and remote audits in Taiwan

Assessment, not certification: TISAX audit providers are approved by the ENX Association, and results are shared with business partners as labels through the ENX exchange mechanism. The ENX Association, not an accreditation body, approves the audit providers. No audit provider is named here. Edition and transition details: TISAX hub →

          Audit language

Agree the assessment language and the language of the evidence with the audit provider and your automotive partner at the start.

          Remote and on-site

The assessment method depends on the assessment level and objectives chosen; confirm any on-site requirement with the audit provider.

TISAX in Taiwan: questions clients ask

          Is TISAX a certification?

No. TISAX is an assessment. An audit provider approved by the ENX Association assesses your information security against the VDA ISA catalogue, and the result is shared with partners through the ENX exchange mechanism. It is not a certificate, so the label shows only what was successfully assessed, for the scope and objectives you chose.

Does a Taiwanese company need TISAX?

Only if a business partner asks for it. No Taiwanese law requires TISAX. Automotive partners request it where design data, prototypes or customer information are exchanged, and ENX describes the scheme as serving supply chains in Germany, Europe and worldwide. Ask the partner which assessment objectives and level it expects before you book an audit provider.

Can ISO 27001 certification replace a TISAX assessment?

No. TISAX assesses against the VDA ISA catalogue, so an ISO/IEC 27001 certificate does not stand in for it. If you already run a certified ISMS, though, most of the groundwork is done, and the assessment will focus on the catalogue's additional requirements. Plan a gap assessment first, then close what is missing.

Who decides which assessment objective applies?

Your business partner's requirements and the data you handle decide it. ENX says the assessment objective sets the assessment level your ISMS is expected to reach and rests on the type of data you handle for the partner. Ask your customer which label it requires, then agree the scope and objective with the audit provider before booking.
