ISO 37001 certification in Taiwan at a glance
In Taiwan, ISO 37001 is asked for by buyers and schemes rather than required by law. The drivers below show where the pressure comes from.
Bribery exposure sits at the point where Taiwanese companies meet public clients, permit offices and overseas intermediaries. The Anti-Corruption Act makes it an offence to tender a bribe or other unjust valuables to a person subject to the Act in return for acting against official duties, and it does not name ISO 37001. The standard is a voluntary management system that gives risk assessment, due diligence on third parties, controls on gifts and hospitality, reporting and investigation a structure that an accredited certification body can audit. Certification comes from a body accredited by the Taiwan Accreditation Foundation or by an accreditation body within the international mutual recognition arrangements, never from Sterling. Sterling designs the system for Taiwanese contractors, exporters and suppliers from its Tokyo office, with Effivity and Sterling Academy included with the engagement.
Who needs ISO 37001 in Taiwan, and what happens without it
In Taiwan the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.
- Companies bidding for public sector workBribery of persons subject to the Anti-Corruption Act is a criminal matter, and buyers want evidence of controls.
- Construction, infrastructure and engineering contractorsThey deal with permits, inspections and public clients where bribery risk concentrates.
- Exporters and suppliers to global groupsOverseas buyers include anti-bribery due diligence in supplier approval.
- Companies with agents, distributors and joint venture partnersThird-party intermediaries are a main route for improper payments.

Strip away the vocabulary and ISO 37001 requires a company to prove six things about how it prevents, detects and responds to bribery.
In Taiwan these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: ISO 37001 explained →

How long does ISO 37001 certification take in Taiwan?
There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Taiwan these are the factors that set the timeline.
- Bribery risk assessment across markets and intermediaries
- Due diligence records for third parties
- Gifts, hospitality and conflict controls
- Certification body availability
Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.
How much does ISO 37001 certification cost in Taiwan?
The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the certification body’s audit fees, which are quoted separately. In Taiwan these factors move both.
- Number of countries, entities and third parties in scope
- Due diligence and monitoring tools
- Certification body fees quoted separately from consulting
- Training of exposed staff
Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.
ISO 37001 consultants and certification bodies in Taiwan
Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an accredited certification body then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.
- Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers ISO 37001 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
- Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Taiwan are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
- Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
- Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.

| Instrument | How it treats the standard |
|---|---|
| Anti-Corruption Act, Article 11 | Related Tendering a bribe or other unjust valuables to a person subject to the Act in return for acting or omitting to act against official duties is punishable; the Act does not name ISO 37001. |

Accreditation, audit language and remote audits in Taiwan
Use a certification body accredited for ISO 37001 by the Taiwan Accreditation Foundation or by an accreditation body within the international mutual recognition arrangements (Global ACI — Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated, formerly the IAF MLA); ask for the written accreditation scope and check it names this standard. No body is named here unless its accreditation scope has been verified. Edition and transition details: ISO 37001 hub →
Audit language
Mandarin Chinese is the working language of most organisations in Taiwan and the Chinese text of a statute prevails over its English version; agree the audit language and the language of controlled documents with the certification body at application, and follow any language requirement in a tender or customer contract.
Remote and on-site
Document review and some interviews can run remotely at the certification body's discretion; production floors, laboratories and service sites in scope are normally visited on-site.
ISO 37001 in Taiwan: questions clients ask
Does Taiwanese law require ISO 37001?
No. The Anti-Corruption Act makes it an offence to tender a bribe or other unjust valuables to a person subject to the Act in return for acting against official duties, and it does not name ISO 37001. The standard is a voluntary management system that helps prevent, detect and respond to bribery. Ask your counsel how the law applies to your dealings.
Will a certificate protect a company from prosecution?
No certificate guarantees that. The Anti-Corruption Act sets criminal offences, and prosecutors and courts decide on the facts. A certified anti-bribery system shows that controls exist and are audited, which can matter to customers and regulators, but the controls must work in practice. Take advice from your counsel on any specific exposure.
Which accreditation body covers ISO 37001 certification in Taiwan?
Anti-bribery certificates need an accredited issuer, and the Taiwan Accreditation Foundation is the national accreditation body. Its published scheme list names other standards, so ask whether the certification body has been assessed for anti-bribery audits. Accreditation from a body within the international mutual recognition arrangements is another route. Keep the accreditation certificate on file for customers who ask.
Do Taiwanese public tenders ask for ISO 37001?
Only if a tender says so. The Government Procurement Act lets each procuring entity set the qualifications essential to contract performance, and it names no certificate. Read the qualification clause of each tender. A private buyer's supplier code is more likely to ask for evidence of anti-bribery controls, which a certificate can supply.
