ISO 22301 certification in Poland at a glance
One Polish instrument bears on ISO 22301. It does not name the standard. So why do buyers in Poland keep asking for the certificate?
Continuity planning moved from good practice to statute for many Polish organisations with the amended National Cybersecurity System Act. Art. 8 requires key and important entities to implement, document, test and maintain business continuity plans that allow continuous service, along with contingency and recovery plans, and to cover supply-chain continuity. The Act does not name ISO 22301, which is why a certified system is evidence rather than a shortcut. Banks and financial entities answer to the Komisja Nadzoru Finansowego, and the amending Act cross-refers to DORA. Data-centre, cloud, logistics and shared-service operators meet the standard through customers who ask how interruptions are managed. Certification is issued by a body accredited by the Polish Centre for Accreditation (PCA) or another within the international recognition arrangements. Sterling's Frankfurt office runs the business impact analysis, builds and exercises the plans and prepares the audit for Polish clients, with Effivity and Sterling Academy included.
Who needs ISO 22301 in Poland, and what happens without it
In Poland the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.
- Key and important entities under the national cybersecurity systemArt. 8 requires business continuity, contingency and recovery plans that are documented, tested and maintained.
- Banks, insurers and other financial entitiesThe KNF supervises cybersecurity for banking, and the Act cross-refers to DORA for financial entities.
- Data-centre, cloud and managed-service providersCustomers depend on service continuity and ask for tested recovery arrangements.
- Logistics, e-commerce and shared-service operatorsOperational interruptions are costly and clients ask how continuity is managed.

Strip away the vocabulary and ISO 22301 requires a company to prove six things about how it keeps operating when something goes wrong.
In Poland these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: ISO 22301 explained →

How long does ISO 22301 certification take in Poland?
There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Poland these are the factors that set the timeline.
- Critical services, sites and dependencies in scope
- Business impact analysis and risk assessment maturity
- Testing and exercise evidence
- Certification body scheduling
Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.
How much does ISO 22301 certification cost in Poland?
The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the certification body’s audit fees, which are quoted separately. In Poland these factors move both.
- Number of sites and critical services
- Recovery capability, such as alternative sites or backup
- Exercise facilitation and training
- Certification body audit fees quoted separately from consulting
Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.
ISO 22301 consultants and certification bodies in Poland
Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an accredited certification body then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.
- Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers ISO 22301 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
- Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Poland are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
- Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
- Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.
Laws and regulations that drive ISO 22301 in Poland (3)
| Instrument | How it treats the standard |
|---|---|
| National Cybersecurity System Act as amended (Dz. U. 2026 poz. 252), Art. 8 | Expected in practice Key and important entities must implement, document, test and maintain business continuity plans, contingency plans and recovery plans; ISO 22301 is not named. |
| Komisja Nadzoru Finansowego and DORA | Context The KNF is the cybersecurity competent authority for banking and financial market infrastructure, and the amending Act cross-refers to Regulation (EU) 2022/2554 (DORA) for financial entities. |
| Polskie Centrum Akredytacji (PCA) — national accreditation body | Market driver Accredited ISO 22301 certification is available through the national accreditation body; no mandate. |
"Expected in practice" means the instrument asks for the outcomes ISO 22301 covers without naming a standard, and ISO 22301 is what buyers and regulators commonly accept as evidence of them.
Accreditation, audit language and remote audits in Poland
Use a certification body accredited for ISO 22301 by the Polish Centre for Accreditation (PCA) or by another accreditation body within the international mutual recognition arrangements (Global ACI — Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated, formerly the IAF MLA); check that the accreditation scope covers the standard and your sector. No body is named here unless its accreditation scope has been verified. Edition and transition details: ISO 22301 hub →
Audit language
Audits are held in Polish or English; agree the audit language and the language of controlled documents with the certification body at application, and follow any language requirement in a tender or contract.
Remote and on-site
Remote audit elements are at the certification body's discretion under its accreditation rules; operational sites are normally visited on-site.
ISO 22301 in Poland: questions clients ask
Does the Polish NIS2 law require business continuity plans?
Yes, in substance. Art. 8 of the amended National Cybersecurity System Act requires key and important entities to implement, document, test and maintain business continuity plans enabling continuous, uninterrupted service, together with contingency and recovery plans. The Act does not name ISO 22301, so use the standard to structure the plans and check the fit with counsel.
Does ISO 22301 certification satisfy the Act's continuity duty?
It helps, but the Act does not name it. A certified business continuity management system gives structured evidence of impact analysis, plans and exercises, which an authority can review. Whether it is enough is for your competent authority to say, so map the certificate against the Art. 8 list and take advice.
How does DORA affect ISO 22301 work for Polish financial entities?
Financial entities answer to the Komisja Nadzoru Finansowego, which the Act names as the competent authority for banking and financial market infrastructure, and the amending Act cross-refers to Regulation (EU) 2022/2554 on digital operational resilience. A continuity system aligned to ISO 22301 can support that work. Confirm what your supervisor expects with counsel.
Who accredits ISO 22301 certification bodies in Poland?
PCA, the Polskie Centrum Akredytacji, which is Poland's national accreditation body and describes its multilateral agreements as giving global recognition to accredited reports and certificates. Your own check is the accreditation scope: confirm that business continuity management sits inside it, then see whether the body has audited organisations with similar critical services to yours.
