SOC 2 attestation in Batam at a glance

Software buyers abroad often make a SOC 2 report a condition of signing, which puts Nongsa Digital Park tenants in an interesting position. The park, designated in 2021 for IT-digital activity with a commercial data-centre area planned, is exactly where such providers will settle. Remember that SOC 2 attests rather than certifies: an independent practitioner tests your controls against chosen trust services criteria, always including security and optionally availability, confidentiality, processing integrity or privacy. The report can cover design at one date or operation across a period. Sterling, serving Batam from its Jakarta office, prepares the system description and the controls, and the examination is performed by the practitioner you appoint.

Changes and operations are controlledSystem changes are authorised and tested, and operations are monitored so incidents are detected and handled.
Risks and vendors are assessedRisks to your commitments, including those coming from vendors and business partners, are assessed and acted on.
Controls work over timeFor a Type 2 report, a licensed CPA firm tests that the controls operated effectively across the review period.

SOC 2 in Batam: questions clients ask

Why would a Nongsa Digital Park tenant want SOC 2?

Because many overseas software and platform buyers ask vendors for a SOC 2 report before signing. It is an attestation by an independent practitioner on controls relevant to security and, where chosen, availability, confidentiality, processing integrity and privacy. Check whether the buyer will accept ISO 27001 instead, since the effort differs.

What is the difference between SOC 2 Type 1 and Type 2 for a Batam provider?

A Type 1 report describes whether controls are suitably designed at one date. A Type 2 report also tests whether they operated effectively over a period, so evidence must be collected continuously. Providers often begin with Type 1 to get something customers can read, then move to Type 2. An independent firm issues the report; Sterling does not.
