In short

AS9100 certification in Czechia at a glance

In Czechia, AS9100 is asked for by buyers and schemes rather than required by law. The drivers below show where the pressure comes from.

Aerospace certification is a customer matter in Czechia, and none of the Czech acts or regulator pages on accreditation, procurement or cyber security makes AS9100 a legal requirement. What they do show is a base to grow from: CzechInvest describes a well-developed automotive industry and a Defence Hub that connects Czech companies with national and European defence opportunities, so machining, electronics and special-process firms increasingly face aerospace and defence supplier approval. ČIA, the national accreditation body, lists ISO 9001 among its recognised management system scopes, and AS9100 builds on that foundation with configuration management, counterfeit-part prevention and traceability. Certificates come from bodies authorised under the aerospace scheme and accredited by ČIA or an equivalent body, never from Sterling. Sterling's Frankfurt office runs the gap assessment, writes the procedures and trains your internal auditors through Sterling Academy, with Effivity included in the engagement.

The need

Who needs AS9100 in Czechia, and what happens without it

In Czechia the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.

  • Machining, fabrication and electronics firms supplying aerospace customersAerospace customers flow quality-system requirements down to their suppliers.
  • Defence and dual-use suppliersCzechInvest's Defence Hub connects Czech firms with national and European defence buyers, who carry formal supplier requirements.
  • Automotive suppliers diversifying into aerospaceA strong IATF 16949 or ISO 9001 base shortens the step to AS9100.
  • Special-process and surface-treatment providersCustomers audit controlled processes, traceability and configuration management.

Requirements

AS9100 requirements in Czechia

Strip away the vocabulary and AS9100 asks a supplier to prove six things about delivering aerospace products safely and on time.

Product safety is managedRisks to product safety are identified and controlled throughout the product's life, from design to delivery.
Configuration is under controlThe approved configuration of each product is identified, changes are controlled and records match what was delivered.
Counterfeit parts are kept outPurchasing, inspection and supplier controls stop counterfeit or suspect parts from entering the product.
Operational risks are managedRisks to delivery and product conformity are assessed and controlled during planning and production.
Production is proven before it runsProduction process verification, such as first article inspection, confirms that processes can make conforming product.
Delivery and conformity are measuredOn-time delivery and product conformity are measured, and human factors are considered when nonconformities are investigated.

In Czechia these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: AS9100 explained →

How Sterling gets a Czech company certified

How to get AS9100 certified in Czechia

One team from the Frankfurt office carries the work from scoping to certificate. Clients in Czechia are served from Sterling's Frankfurt office, on-site where the work needs it and remotely otherwise.

    1. Discovery call and scopeEntities, locations, regulators and target date, agreed before any proposal.
    2. Gap assessment against AS9100 and the Czech requirements that apply to youControls you already run for your regulators and customers are reused, not rebuilt.
    3. Your system built with your team in EffivityRisks, controls, evidence, incidents and reviews in one live system the auditor can see.
    4. Internal audit, management review and corrective actionsYour internal auditors trained by Sterling; the evidence proven before the certification body arrives.
    5. Certification body stage 1 and stage 2, then surveillanceAn accredited body audits and decides. Sterling supports the audits and the three-year cycle.

      Time

How long does AS9100 certification take in Czechia?

There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Czechia these are the factors that set the timeline.

      • Customer flow-down requirements and approvals
      • Maturity of configuration management and counterfeit-part controls
      • Number of sites and special processes
      • Certification body scheduling

Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.

      Cost

How much does AS9100 certification cost in Czechia?

The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the certification body’s audit fees, which are quoted separately. In Czechia these factors move both.

      • Number of sites and product families
      • Special-process controls and traceability gaps
      • Certification body audit fees, quoted separately
      • Customer-specific approvals

Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.

        Choosing a partner

AS9100 consultants and certification bodies in Czechia

Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an accredited certification body then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.

        • Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers AS9100 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
        • Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Czechia are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
        • Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
        • Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.

ČIA describes itself as the national accreditation body founded by the Czech government, accrediting laboratories, inspection bodies and certification bodies for management systems, products and persons.
ČIA's list of multilateral recognition agreementsRecognition
ČIA's own page lists it as an EA MLA signatory for management system certification and shows recognition for certification to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO/IEC 27001, ISO 22000, ISO 13485, ISO 50001 and ISO 45001.

Accreditation, audit language and remote audits in Czechia

Use a certification body that is authorised for aerospace scheme certification under the scheme's own rules and accredited by ČIA or by another accreditation body within the international mutual recognition arrangements (Global ACI — Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated, formerly the IAF MLA). Confirm the scheme authorisation and the accreditation scope with the body and your customers before applying. Edition and transition details: AS9100 hub →

          Audit language

Czech is the official language and English is commonly used in business. Agree the audit language and the language of controlled documents with the certification body at application, and follow any language requirement in a contract or a regulator's procedure.

          Remote and on-site

Audits are on-site because production, inspection and configuration-control areas must be seen; document review can be partly remote.

AS9100 in Czechia: questions clients ask

Does any Czech instrument require AS9100?

None of the Czech acts or regulator pages on accreditation, procurement or cyber security does. Demand comes from aerospace and defence customers who pass requirements down their supply chains, and CzechInvest's Defence Hub describes the buyer landscape without naming the standard. Ask each prime or tier 1 customer which standard, edition and approvals it expects, because requirements differ between programmes.

Who accredits the certification bodies that issue AS9100 certificates in Czechia?

ČIA accredits certification bodies for management systems, and its recognition list includes ISO 9001, the base of AS9100. Aerospace certification also needs the body to be authorised under the scheme's own rules, so check both the scheme authorisation and the ČIA scope before you apply. Sterling prepares the system but does not certify.

Can an IATF 16949 supplier extend to AS9100?

Often, because both build on ISO 9001 and share core-tool habits. Automotive suppliers meet different customer rules, though: aerospace customers stress configuration management, counterfeit-part prevention, special processes and traceability. Expect a gap assessment against those areas and an extension of the scope statement before booking an audit.

What do defence buyers add to the picture?

Defence procurement can add its own quality requirements next to aerospace certification. CzechInvest says its Defence Hub connects Czech companies with national and European defence opportunities, which suggests more suppliers will meet formal approval processes. Read each contract's quality clauses, and check with the contracting authority which scheme it accepts.
