HACCP certification in Abu Dhabi at a glance

A food business licensed in Abu Dhabi answers to the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, and an outlet inside the ADGM free zone also follows ADGM Registration Authority Circular No. 35 of 2020, which requires ADAFSA's health and safety standards. The circular does not name HACCP, so the case for a certified plan rests on customers and on practice: caterers supplying hospitals under the Department of Health, processors in KEZAD's food and agtech sector, and exporters at Khalifa Port are asked to show hazard analysis, critical limits and monitoring records. An accredited certification body can confirm the plan works. Sterling's Dubai office builds and trains the plan with your team on site, with Effivity and Sterling Academy included.

Requirements

What HACCP requires

Strip away the vocabulary and HACCP asks a food business to prove six things about how it controls food safety hazards.

A team knows the product and processA competent team has described each product, its intended use and a verified flow diagram of how it is made.
Hazards are analysedEvery significant hazard at each step is identified, and the measures that will control it are decided.
Critical control points have limitsThe steps where control is essential are identified, each with critical limits that separate safe from unsafe.
Monitoring and correction are routineEach critical point is monitored, and corrective action is defined in advance and taken whenever a limit is breached.
The plan is verifiedChecks confirm the plan works, from validating limits to reviewing records and reassessing when anything changes.
Records prove itDocuments and records show the plan was followed, ready for customers, auditors and food inspectors.

HACCP in Abu Dhabi: questions clients ask

Does ADGM require HACCP for food outlets?

Not by name. Circular No. 35 of 2020 from the ADGM Registration Authority requires licensed food establishments to follow ADAFSA's circulars and guidelines, and HACCP is not mentioned in it. A certified plan is therefore a customer or good-practice choice. Check the current ADAFSA wording.

Where do Abu Dhabi food exporters ship from?

Khalifa Port, between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, handles containers, general cargo and RoRo and has direct rail connectivity. It sits close to KEZAD Group, whose food and agtech clients are its neighbours. Overseas importers audit supplier food safety records as part of that export chain.
