ISO 37301 certification in Saudi Arabia at a glance
In Saudi Arabia, ISO 37301 is asked for by buyers and schemes rather than required by law. The drivers below show where the pressure comes from.
Compliance officers in Saudi groups track a wide set of obligations: SAMA's frameworks for financial institutions, the NCA's Essential Cybersecurity Controls for government agencies and critical national infrastructure, the Personal Data Protection Law, and procurement rules under the Government Tenders and Procurement Law. ISO 37301 organises that work as a compliance management system, with an obligations register, compliance risk assessment, controls, reporting, a speak-up channel and continual improvement, which can be audited and certified by an accredited certification body. No Saudi instrument checked for this page requires ISO 37301; the value lies in showing boards, regulators and partners that obligations are identified, owned and monitored. Accreditation should be confirmed, since the Saudi Accreditation Center's IAF MLA recognition, as IAF recorded it, covers ISO 9001. Sterling's Riyadh office builds the obligations register, compliance risk assessment and reporting, and trains staff through Sterling Academy. The questions Saudi compliance teams raise follow.
Who needs ISO 37301 in Saudi Arabia, and what happens without it
In Saudi Arabia the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.
- Banks, insurers and financing companiesSAMA frameworks add a large set of supervisory obligations.
- Government suppliers and CNI operatorsNCA controls and procurement rules apply alongside commercial obligations.

Strip away the vocabulary and ISO 37301 requires a company to prove six things about how it meets its legal and other obligations.
In Saudi Arabia these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: ISO 37301 explained →

How long does ISO 37301 certification take in Saudi Arabia?
There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Saudi Arabia these are the factors that set the timeline.
- Number of obligation sources and entities in scope
- Existing compliance function and reporting lines
- Speak-up and investigation arrangements
- Certification body scheduling around Ramadan, the Eid holidays and the Sunday–Thursday working week
Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.
How much does ISO 37301 certification cost in Saudi Arabia?
The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the certification body’s audit fees, which are quoted separately. In Saudi Arabia these factors move both.
- Number of entities and regulated activities
- Obligations register build effort
- Certification body audit fees quoted separately from consulting
- Compliance training across the organisation
Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.
ISO 37301 consultants and certification bodies in Saudi Arabia
Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an accredited certification body then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.
- Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers ISO 37301 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
- Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Saudi Arabia are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
- Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
- Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.

Accreditation, audit language and remote audits in Saudi Arabia
Use a certification body accredited for this standard by the Saudi Accreditation Center (SAAC) or by another accreditation body within the international mutual recognition arrangements (Global ACI — Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated, formerly the IAF MLA). IAF recorded SAAC's MLA scope as ISO 9001 quality management certification, so check that the accreditation scope covers ISO 37301 and your sector. No body is named here unless its scope has been verified. Edition and transition details: ISO 37301 hub →
Audit language
Arabic and English audits are both available in the market; agree the audit and document language with the certification body at application, and follow any Arabic-language requirement of a regulator or government buyer.
Remote and on-site
Remote audit elements are at the certification body's discretion under its accreditation rules; operational sites are normally visited on-site.
ISO 37301 in Saudi Arabia: questions clients ask
Is ISO 37301 required by a Saudi regulator?
No Saudi regulator requirement for ISO 37301 was found among the instruments checked, so treat it as a voluntary choice that your management or customers may ask for. If a regulator or counterparty says otherwise, confirm it with them in writing before you plan around it.
Which Saudi obligations would the register include?
The register would draw on the frameworks that apply to your organisation: SAMA's Cyber Security and Business Continuity Management Frameworks, the NCA's Essential Cybersecurity Controls, the Personal Data Protection Law and the Government Tenders and Procurement Law. Which apply depends on your sector and contracts, and the PDPL details are still to be confirmed on the official text.
Which accreditation should our ISO 37301 certification body hold?
The accreditation that matters is one that lists ISO 37301. It may come from the Saudi Accreditation Center or from another accreditation body within the international mutual recognition arrangements. Since IAF's record of SAAC's mutual recognition scope is ISO 9001 quality management, confirm the compliance management scope and your sector in writing.
