In short

AS9100 certification in Saudi Arabia at a glance

In Saudi Arabia, AS9100 is asked for by buyers and schemes rather than required by law. The drivers below show where the pressure comes from.

Aerospace and defence supply chains rarely accept a supplier on ISO 9001 alone: AS9100 adds the aviation, space and defence requirements that primes flow down, among them configuration management, product safety, prevention of counterfeit parts and on-time delivery. For Saudi manufacturers and maintenance organisations the route is the same as elsewhere, certification by a certification body accredited under the aerospace scheme. No Saudi regulator page checked for this record cites AS9100, and the Saudi Accreditation Center's IAF MLA recognition, as IAF recorded it, covers ISO 9001 quality management certification, so confirm the certification body's aerospace accreditation separately. Government tenders on the Ministry of Finance's Etimad platform set their qualification criteria one tender at a time. Sterling's Riyadh office builds the AS9100 system on an existing ISO 9001 base where one exists, covering risk, first article inspection, special processes and supplier control, with Effivity and Sterling Academy included. The questions Saudi suppliers ask about aerospace certification follow below.

The need

Who needs AS9100 in Saudi Arabia, and what happens without it

In Saudi Arabia the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.

  • Aerospace and defence parts manufacturersPrimes flow down AS9100 as a supplier requirement.
  • Suppliers with an ISO 9001 base moving into aerospaceAS9100 builds on ISO 9001.

Requirements

AS9100 requirements in Saudi Arabia

Strip away the vocabulary and AS9100 asks a supplier to prove six things about delivering aerospace products safely and on time.

Product safety is managedRisks to product safety are identified and controlled throughout the product's life, from design to delivery.
Configuration is under controlThe approved configuration of each product is identified, changes are controlled and records match what was delivered.
Counterfeit parts are kept outPurchasing, inspection and supplier controls stop counterfeit or suspect parts from entering the product.
Operational risks are managedRisks to delivery and product conformity are assessed and controlled during planning and production.
Production is proven before it runsProduction process verification, such as first article inspection, confirms that processes can make conforming product.
Delivery and conformity are measuredOn-time delivery and product conformity are measured, and human factors are considered when nonconformities are investigated.

In Saudi Arabia these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: AS9100 explained →

How Sterling gets a Saudi company certified

How to get AS9100 certified in Saudi Arabia

One team from the Riyadh office carries the work from scoping to certificate. Clients across the Kingdom, from the Riyadh office; on-site where the work needs it and remote delivery for distributed teams.

    1. Discovery call and scopeEntities, locations, regulators and target date, agreed before any proposal.
    2. Gap assessment against AS9100 and the Saudi requirements that apply to youControls you already run for your regulators and customers are reused, not rebuilt.
    3. Your system built with your team in EffivityRisks, controls, evidence, incidents and reviews in one live system the auditor can see.
    4. Internal audit, management review and corrective actionsYour internal auditors trained by Sterling; the evidence proven before the certification body arrives.
    5. Certification body stage 1 and stage 2, then surveillanceAn accredited body audits and decides. Sterling supports the audits and the three-year cycle.

      Time

How long does AS9100 certification take in Saudi Arabia?

There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Saudi Arabia these are the factors that set the timeline.

      • Existing ISO 9001 system to build on
      • Configuration management and first article inspection maturity
      • Number of special processes and suppliers
      • Certification body scheduling around Ramadan, the Eid holidays and the Sunday–Thursday working week

Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.

      Cost

How much does AS9100 certification cost in Saudi Arabia?

The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the certification body’s audit fees, which are quoted separately. In Saudi Arabia these factors move both.

      • Number of sites and special processes
      • Customer-specific requirements of primes
      • Certification body audit fees quoted separately from consulting
      • Product safety and counterfeit-parts controls to implement

Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.

        Choosing a partner

AS9100 consultants and certification bodies in Saudi Arabia

Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an accredited certification body then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.

        • Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers AS9100 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
        • Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Saudi Arabia are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
        • Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
        • Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.

Laws and regulations that drive AS9100 in Saudi Arabia (2)

          InstrumentHow it treats the standard
          Saudi Accreditation Center — IAF MLA admission (ISO/IEC 17021-1, ISO 9001 sub-scope)Accreditation
IAF recorded SAAC's MLA scope as ISO 9001 only; aerospace scheme accreditation must be confirmed separately.
Etimad platform (Ministry of Finance)Procurement channel
No ISO requirement on the pages checked; tenders set criteria.

Accreditation, audit language and remote audits in Saudi Arabia

Use a certification body accredited for this standard by the Saudi Accreditation Center (SAAC) or by another accreditation body within the international mutual recognition arrangements (Global ACI — Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated, formerly the IAF MLA). IAF recorded SAAC's MLA scope as ISO 9001 quality management certification, so check that the accreditation scope covers AS9100 under the aerospace certification scheme and your sector. No body is named here unless its scope has been verified. Edition and transition details: AS9100 hub →

          Audit language

Arabic and English audits are both available in the market; agree the audit and document language with the certification body at application, and follow any Arabic-language requirement of a regulator or government buyer.

          Remote and on-site

Remote audit elements are at the certification body's discretion under its accreditation rules; operational sites are normally visited on-site.

AS9100 in Saudi Arabia: questions clients ask

Is AS9100 required by a Saudi regulator?

No. None of the Saudi regulator pages checked for this record cites AS9100, so it is a customer requirement. The place to look is the contract, purchase terms or supplier quality requirements of the customer asking for it, not a Saudi regulation. If a regulator or buyer tells you otherwise, confirm it with them directly.

          Does SAAC accreditation cover AS9100?

Not on the evidence checked. IAF recorded the Saudi Accreditation Center's mutual recognition scope as ISO 9001, so it should not be assumed to extend to AS9100. Ask any certification body you are considering to show its accreditation for the aerospace scheme, and confirm that scope with the body before you sign an application.

Can we add AS9100 to an existing ISO 9001 certificate?

Yes, in principle. AS9100 includes the ISO 9001 requirements, so an existing ISO 9001 system is your foundation, and the transition is arranged through your certification body, which decides how it treats the current certificate. Ask the body for its process before you plan the additional aerospace requirements.
