ISO 37001 certification in Poland at a glance
In Poland, ISO 37001 is asked for by buyers and schemes rather than required by law. The drivers below show where the pressure comes from.
Under Art. 5 of Poland's Act on the liability of collective entities, a company can answer for an offence committed by someone acting for it when the cause was a lack of due care in choosing or supervising that person, or an organisation of activity that did not prevent the offence although due care could have done so. Art. 16 lists the offences concerned, including bribery. ISO 37001 is not named, but its anti-bribery management system speaks directly to those questions: risk assessment, due diligence on associates, controls on gifts and hospitality, training, reporting and investigation. The Act on the protection of whistleblowers adds an internal reporting procedure, with corruption among the areas covered. Certification is issued by a body accredited by the Polish Centre for Accreditation (PCA) or another within the international recognition arrangements, and it evidences care without guaranteeing a legal outcome. Sterling's Frankfurt office builds the system for Polish clients, with Effivity and Sterling Academy included in the engagement.
Who needs ISO 37001 in Poland, and what happens without it
In Poland the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.
- Companies whose people deal with public officials, customs and licensingBribery offences are among those that can make a collective entity liable.
- Firms that use agents, distributors and subcontractorsFailure to supervise or select the people acting for the company is a ground of liability.
- Employers setting up reporting channelsThe whistleblower Act requires an internal reporting procedure and lists corruption among the areas covered.
- Suppliers to multinational customersCustomers ask for anti-bribery controls in due diligence.

Strip away the vocabulary and ISO 37001 requires a company to prove six things about how it prevents, detects and responds to bribery.
In Poland these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: ISO 37001 explained →

How long does ISO 37001 certification take in Poland?
There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Poland these are the factors that set the timeline.
- Countries, business units and third parties in scope
- Bribery risk assessment maturity
- Due diligence on associates and gifts-and-hospitality records
- Certification body scheduling
Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.
How much does ISO 37001 certification cost in Poland?
The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the certification body’s audit fees, which are quoted separately. In Poland these factors move both.
- Number of entities, countries and high-risk relationships
- Due diligence and monitoring effort
- Training and communication across the organisation
- Certification body audit fees quoted separately from consulting
Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.
ISO 37001 consultants and certification bodies in Poland
Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an accredited certification body then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.
- Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers ISO 37001 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
- Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Poland are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
- Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
- Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.

No body is named here unless its accreditation scope has been verified. Edition and transition details: ISO 37001 hub →

Audits are held in Polish or English; agree the audit language and the language of controlled documents with the certification body at application, and follow any language requirement in a tender or contract.

ISO 37001 in Poland: questions clients ask
Does Polish law require ISO 37001?
No. The Act on the liability of collective entities does not name ISO 37001. It asks instead whether an offence followed from lack of due care in selecting or supervising a person acting for the entity, or from an organisation of activity that failed to prevent it. A certified anti-bribery system can evidence your organisation and controls, but take legal advice on what the courts would expect.
Does an ISO 37001 certificate protect a company from liability in Poland?
Not automatically. Art. 5 of the liability Act turns on due care in selecting and supervising people and on whether the organisation of activity could have prevented the offence, and it does not mention certification. A well-run system is evidence of care, but liability is decided case by case by the courts, so your counsel should advise on your exposure.
Must a Polish employer have a whistleblowing procedure?
Generally yes for legal entities. Art. 24 of the Act on the protection of whistleblowers says a legal entity sets an internal procedure for reporting breaches of law and taking follow-up action, after consulting employee representatives where they exist, and smaller entities may set one. Corruption is among the areas covered. Ask counsel how the rules apply to your headcount.
Who accredits ISO 37001 certification bodies in Poland?
The Polskie Centrum Akredytacji (PCA), the national accreditation body for Poland, a full signatory to the EA and Global ACI arrangements by its own account. Accreditation is scoped, so ask the certification body to show that ISO 37001 is covered by its PCA accreditation, and check its experience with your industry's bribery risks.
