ISO 27701 certification in Manila at a glance
Names, addresses and identity numbers travel with every consignment and every patient. A Manila forwarder keeps consignee and driver details, a hospital keeps clinical records, and a city contractor keeps residents' details on behalf of an agency. ISO/IEC 27701 is the privacy extension to ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO/IEC 27002: it sets out controls for personal-data controllers and processors, including records of processing, data-subject requests, retention and transfers. In Manila the standard suits organisations that already run a security system and now face privacy questions from larger customers. It supports, but does not replace, the Data Privacy Act duties on the Philippines page. Sterling's Manila office maps your data flows and roles, and an accredited certification body issues the certificate.

ISO 27701 in Manila: questions clients ask
What does ISO/IEC 27701 add for a Manila hospital?
It adds a privacy information management layer to an information security system: defined roles as controller or processor, records of processing, handling of data-subject requests and transfer controls. A hospital already holding ISO/IEC 27001 can extend it. The certificate does not replace the duties set by the Philippine Data Privacy Act.
Does a Manila forwarder process personal data?
Yes, routinely. Consignee names, contact numbers, driver and truck details and customs filings are personal data, so a forwarder will often be a controller or processor under privacy law. ISO/IEC 27701 gives a documented method for handling it, which larger customers sometimes request. Whether it is required depends on the contract.
