AS9100 certification in Pakistan at a glance

One Pakistani instrument bears on AS9100. It does not name the standard. So why do buyers in Pakistan keep asking for the certificate?

AS9100 reaches a Pakistani shop through a purchase order, not through a statute. A precision machinist, an electronics assembler or a repair business supplying aerospace or defence customers meets the standard as a flow-down clause, usually with a requirement to use a certification body the customer accepts. That is where Pakistan needs care: the legacy mutual recognition site shows no aerospace scope among PNAC's recognition entries, so an aerospace customer is likely to look to a certification body accredited elsewhere and approved under the sector's own scheme. Special economic zones offer export-oriented manufacturing space but do not themselves ask for AS9100, and public bidding documents set their own evidence. Sterling's Mumbai office helps suppliers build configuration management, first-article, special-process and counterfeit-part controls, and run the internal audits, with Effivity software and Sterling Academy training included with the engagement.

The need

Who needs AS9100 in Pakistan, and what happens without it

In Pakistan the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.

  • Precision machining and fabrication shops in aerospace supply chainsPrime contractors flow AS9100 requirements down to suppliers through purchase conditions.
  • Electronics and cable-assembly firms supplying defence and aviation customersProgramme customers audit suppliers against sector quality requirements.
  • Maintenance, repair and component-repair businessesAviation customers expect a quality system built for the sector, not a general one.
  • Manufacturers in special economic zones targeting export programmesZone enterprises that aim at aerospace orders need an aerospace-grade system before they can bid.

AS9100 requirements in Pakistan

Strip away the vocabulary and AS9100 asks a supplier to prove six things about delivering aerospace products safely and on time.

Product safety is managedRisks to product safety are identified and controlled throughout the product's life, from design to delivery.
Configuration is under controlThe approved configuration of each product is identified, changes are controlled and records match what was delivered.
Counterfeit parts are kept outPurchasing, inspection and supplier controls stop counterfeit or suspect parts from entering the product.
Operational risks are managedRisks to delivery and product conformity are assessed and controlled during planning and production.
Production is proven before it runsProduction process verification, such as first article inspection, confirms that processes can make conforming product.
Delivery and conformity are measuredOn-time delivery and product conformity are measured, and human factors are considered when nonconformities are investigated.

In Pakistan these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: AS9100 explained →

How Sterling gets a Pakistani company certified

How to get AS9100 certified in Pakistan

One team from the Mumbai office carries the work from scoping to certificate. Clients across Pakistan are served from Sterling's Mumbai office, on-site where the work needs it and remotely otherwise.

    1. Discovery call and scopeEntities, locations, regulators and target date, agreed before any proposal.
    2. Gap assessment against AS9100 and the Pakistani requirements that apply to youControls you already run for your regulators and customers are reused, not rebuilt.
    3. Your system built with your team in EffivityRisks, controls, evidence, incidents and reviews in one live system the auditor can see.
    4. Internal audit, management review and corrective actionsYour internal auditors trained by Sterling; the evidence proven before the certification body arrives.
    5. Certification body stage 1 and stage 2, then surveillanceAn accredited body audits and decides. Sterling supports the audits and the three-year cycle.

      Time

How long does AS9100 certification take in Pakistan?

There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Pakistan these are the factors that set the timeline.

      • Customer flow-down requirements and special-process approvals
      • Configuration management, first-article and counterfeit-part controls
      • Internal audit and corrective action maturity
      • Certification body availability for an aerospace-approved auditor

Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.

      Cost

How much does AS9100 certification cost in Pakistan?

The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the certification body’s audit fees, which are quoted separately. In Pakistan these factors move both.

      • Scope: number of sites and special processes
      • Customer-specific audits and approvals running alongside
      • Certification body audit fees quoted separately from consulting
      • Traceability, inspection and records upgrades

Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.

        Choosing a partner

AS9100 consultants and certification bodies in Pakistan

Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an accredited certification body then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.

        • Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers AS9100 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
        • Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Pakistan are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
        • Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
        • Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.

Laws and regulations that drive AS9100 in Pakistan (3)

          InstrumentHow it treats the standard
          PNAC recognition entriesAccreditation
The legacy mutual recognition site shows no aerospace (9100-series) scope among PNAC's recognition entries.
Public Procurement Rules, 2026 and standard bidding documentsExpected in practice
A bidding document decides what quality evidence a public aviation or defence-related buyer wants.
          Special Economic Zones frameworkContext
Zones are for export-oriented manufacturing; they do not themselves require AS9100.

"Expected in practice" means the instrument asks for the outcomes AS9100 covers without naming a standard, and AS9100 is what buyers and regulators commonly accept as evidence of them.

Accreditation, audit language and remote audits in Pakistan

AS9100 certificates come from certification bodies approved under the aerospace sector's own scheme, so accreditation alone is not enough: confirm with your customer which certification bodies it accepts. PNAC's recognition entries on the legacy mutual recognition site list ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 22000 for management systems and show no aerospace scope for PNAC, so ask your customer which accreditation it recognises. Edition and transition details: AS9100 hub →

          Audit language

Business records, standards and tenders are mostly in English, and the Constitution allows English for official purposes; interviews with operators and suppliers may run in Urdu or a regional language. Agree the audit language, any interpreter and the language of controlled documents with the certification body at application.

          Remote and on-site

Audits are on-site at production and inspection areas; document review can be partly remote.

AS9100 in Pakistan: questions clients ask

Is there a Pakistani law that requires AS9100?

No national statute names it. The requirement comes from the aerospace customer, which flows AS9100 into purchase conditions, or from a bidding document that asks for sector quality evidence. Read the purchase order or tender terms, and ask your customer which certification bodies it accepts before you commission an audit.

          Can a PNAC-accredited body certify to AS9100?

The legacy mutual recognition site lists no aerospace scope among PNAC's recognition entries. An aerospace customer may also require a body approved under the sector's own scheme. Ask your customer, then ask each candidate certification body for its accreditation certificate and its approval status in the aerospace scheme.

Do special economic zones require AS9100?

No. The Special Economic Zones framework provides for export-oriented manufacturing and does not itself set a quality standard. An enterprise in a zone that wants aerospace orders would take AS9100 on because the customer asks for it. Check any zone-specific conditions with the Board of Investment or the zone developer.

What should an AS9100 gap review look at first?

Start with customer flow-down requirements and special-process approvals, because they decide which controls are non-negotiable. Then look at configuration management, first-article inspection and counterfeit-part prevention, followed by internal audit and corrective action. Sectors differ, so the review should be built around your actual customers' purchase conditions.
