ISO 27001 certification in Sohar at a glance
At SOHAR Port, cranes are controlled remotely, vessels are scheduled through systems and customs documents move electronically, which makes information security an operational matter as much as an office one. The ministry describes remote-controlled cranes and deep-water berths; around them, steel, petrochemical and plastics plants and a solar polysilicon project run their own control and business systems. ISO/IEC 27001 requires an organisation to assess information risk, choose and operate controls, audit them and improve, and it lets terminal operators, shipping agents and industrial groups show customers an independent assurance. An accredited certification body issues the certificate. Sterling prepares Sohar clients from Sterling's Dubai office, with Effivity and Sterling Academy included. Government guidance and data law are described on the Oman page.

ISO 27001 in Sohar: questions clients ask
Why would a Sohar port or plant operator seek ISO/IEC 27001?
Because operations depend on connected systems. The ministry describes remote-controlled cranes at SOHAR Port, and nearby plants run control and business systems for overseas customers. ISO/IEC 27001 shows that information risks are assessed and controlled, assessed by an accredited certification body. Operational technology may need extra scoping, so define it early.
Does the free zone require ISO/IEC 27001 from tenants?
No such requirement is recorded. OPAZ's Sohar Free Zone page lists incentives such as foreign ownership and tax terms, and services such as accommodation and restaurants; a security certificate is not among them. Any expectation comes from customers or contracts, so read the customer's security schedule.
