AS9100 certification in Norway at a glance
In Norway, AS9100 is asked for by buyers and schemes rather than required by law. The drivers below show where the pressure comes from.
Luftfartstilsynet, the Civil Aviation Authority Norway, publishes the list of Part-145 approved maintenance organisations and handles Part-21 airworthiness matters, but its published material does not name AS9100. The standard reaches Norwegian suppliers through their customers: aerospace and defence primes pass quality, configuration control and traceability requirements down the chain, and maintenance organisations see the same expectation from operators. For public purchases, DFØ explains that authorities must accept equivalent EEA quality certificates, though a prime's own terms can be stricter. Because AS9100 is a sector scheme, check the certification body's scheme approval and its accreditation scope in Norsk akkreditering's register. Sterling's Enschede office adds the aerospace requirements to an existing ISO 9001 system, with Effivity and Sterling Academy included with the engagement.
Who needs AS9100 in Norway, and what happens without it
In Norway the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.
- Part-145 maintenance organisations and component repairersLuftfartstilsynet publishes the list of approved Part-145 maintenance organisations in Norway, and their customers may look for documented quality systems.
- Machine shops and fabricators supplying aerospace and defence primesPrime contractors flow quality requirements down the supply chain through their own supplier terms.
- Electronics and materials suppliers to aviation programmesAviation customers ask for traceability, configuration control and risk management evidence.

Strip away the vocabulary and AS9100 asks a supplier to prove six things about delivering aerospace products safely and on time.
In Norway these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: AS9100 explained →

How long does AS9100 certification take in Norway?
There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Norway these are the factors that set the timeline.
- Number of sites and product lines in scope
- Configuration management and special process controls
- Customer-specific requirements and key characteristics
- Ability to evidence on-time delivery and quality performance
Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.
How much does AS9100 certification cost in Norway?
The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the certification body’s audit fees, which are quoted separately. In Norway these factors move both.
- Scope across sites and special processes
- Documentation uplift for aerospace requirements
- Certification body fees quoted separately from consulting
- Integration with ISO 9001
Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.
AS9100 consultants and certification bodies in Norway
Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an accredited certification body then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.
- Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers AS9100 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
- Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Norway are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
- Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
- Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.

Accreditation, audit language and remote audits in Norway
Certification by a certification body accredited by Norsk akkreditering or by an accreditation body within the international mutual recognition arrangements (Global ACI — Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated, formerly the IAF MLA). AS9100 is a sector scheme, so ask the certification body for its aerospace scheme approvals and for the accreditation scope that covers them in Norsk akkreditering's register. Audit language
Norwegian and English are both workable for audits; agree the audit language and the language of controlled documents with the certification body at application, and follow any language clause in a tender or customer contract.
Remote and on-site
Remote audit elements are at the certification body's discretion; production, office and service sites are normally visited.
AS9100 in Norway: questions clients ask
Does Luftfartstilsynet require AS9100 from maintenance organisations in Norway?
Its published material for Part-145 approved maintenance organisations does not name AS9100. Luftfartstilsynet lists the approved organisations in Norway and deals with airworthiness approvals under the aviation rules, which are separate from a quality management certificate. Customers may still ask for AS9100 or AS9110, so check each customer's terms.
Is AS9100 certification available through Norwegian accredited bodies?
Ask the certification body, then check Norsk akkreditering's register. AS9100 belongs to a sector scheme with its own approval rules, so the body needs scheme approval as well as accreditation for management-system certification. The register shows the standards in each body's accredited scope, and a body accredited elsewhere within the same recognition arrangements is also an option.
Can ISO 9001 stand in for AS9100 on a Norwegian aerospace contract?
Only if the buyer accepts it. For public purchases, DFØ explains that an authority asking for a quality assurance certificate must accept equivalent certificates from other EEA bodies, but an aerospace prime's supplier terms are private conditions and may name AS9100 directly. Read the contract flow-down before assuming ISO 9001 is enough.
Who needs AS9100 among Norwegian aviation suppliers?
Mostly suppliers whose customers write it into their terms: maintenance and repair organisations on Luftfartstilsynet's list, machine shops and fabricators in aerospace and defence supply chains, and electronics or materials suppliers to aviation programmes. No Norwegian statute is recorded as demanding it, so the trigger is the customer's requirement.
