In short

ISO 20000-1 certification in Jordan at a glance

In Jordan, ISO/IEC 20000-1 is asked for by buyers and schemes rather than required by law. The drivers below show where the pressure comes from.

IT service providers in Jordan sell mostly to banks, telecom and government, and those customers ask how incidents, changes and service levels are controlled. The Central Bank of Jordan's cybersecurity framework lists its 2016 instructions on governance and management of information and technology among the regulations entities follow, the National Cyber Security Center published a Cyber Security Policy for Cloud Computing Services in 2025, and the Government Tenders Department runs works and technical-services purchasing through an electronic system. None of them names ISO/IEC 20000-1, so the certificate is evidence a provider chooses to show that its service processes work. It pairs naturally with ISO/IEC 27001 for security. Accredited certification bodies issue it, never Sterling, and the origin of the body's accreditation deserves a check. Sterling's Dubai office maps services, designs the incident, change and request processes and rehearses the audit, with Effivity and Sterling Academy included with the engagement.

The need

Who needs ISO 20000-1 in Jordan, and what happens without it

In Jordan the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.

  • Managed service providers and IT outsourcers serving banksBanks' third-party and technology governance expectations push providers to show controlled incident, change and service level processes.
  • Data centre, hosting and cloud providersThe National Cyber Security Center issued a Cyber Security Policy for Cloud Computing Services in 2025, and customers look for evidence of controlled operations.
  • In-house IT departments of banks, hospitals and large employersInternal IT teams certify to prove structured service delivery to business units and to auditors.
  • Software and support companies selling to governmentGovernment buyers ask for support and service management evidence in tenders.

Requirements

ISO 20000-1 requirements in Jordan

Strip away the vocabulary and ISO/IEC 20000-1 requires a company to prove six things about how it plans and delivers IT services.

Services are defined and agreedA service catalogue and service-level agreements state what you deliver and to what standard.
Management owns the service systemTop management sets the service management policy and objectives and provides the people and tools to meet them.
Changes and releases are controlledChanges, releases and deployments are assessed, approved and tracked so live services stay stable.
Incidents and problems are resolvedIncidents and requests are handled to agreed targets, and recurring problems are traced back to their cause.
Capacity, continuity and security are plannedCapacity, availability, continuity and information security are planned so agreed service commitments can be met.
Suppliers and performance are reviewedSuppliers and internal teams are managed against agreements, performance is reported, and the system is audited and reviewed.

In Jordan these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: ISO/IEC 20000-1 explained →

How Sterling gets a Jordanian company certified

How to get ISO 20000-1 certified in Jordan

One team from the Dubai office carries the work from scoping to certificate. Clients across Jordan are served from Sterling's Dubai office, on-site where the work needs it and remotely otherwise.

  1. Discovery call and scopeEntities, locations, regulators and target date, agreed before any proposal.
  2. Gap assessment against ISO/IEC 20000-1 and the Jordanian requirements that apply to youControls you already run for your regulators and customers are reused, not rebuilt.
  3. Your system built with your team in EffivityRisks, controls, evidence, incidents and reviews in one live system the auditor can see.
  4. Internal audit, management review and corrective actionsYour internal auditors trained by Sterling; the evidence proven before the certification body arrives.
  5. Certification body stage 1 and stage 2, then surveillanceAn accredited body audits and decides. Sterling supports the audits and the three-year cycle.

Time

How long does ISO 20000-1 certification take in Jordan?

There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Jordan these are the factors that set the timeline.

  • Scope of services, customers and supporting teams
  • Maturity of incident, change, problem and configuration records
  • Time to operate processes and run an internal audit and management review
  • Certification body scheduling around Eid and the Sunday to Thursday working week

Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.

Cost

How much does ISO 20000-1 certification cost in Jordan?

The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the certification body’s audit fees, which are quoted separately. In Jordan these factors move both.

  • Number of services, sites and staff in scope
  • Service management tooling to configure
  • Certification body audit fees, quoted separately from consulting
  • Combining the system with ISO/IEC 27001

Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.

Choosing a partner

ISO 20000-1 consultants and certification bodies in Jordan

Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an accredited certification body then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.

  • Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers ISO 20000-1 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
  • Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Jordan are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
  • Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
  • Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.

Laws and regulations that drive ISO 20000-1 in Jordan (3)

    InstrumentHow it treats the standard
Central Bank of Jordan Instructions on Governance and Management of Information and Information Technology no. (65/2016)Context
The Bank's cybersecurity framework lists these instructions among the national regulations entities must follow; neither the framework nor the 2018 cyber instructions names ISO/IEC 20000-1.
National Cyber Security Center — Cyber Security Policy for Cloud Computing Services (2025)Context
Sets national cyber security expectations for cloud services and refers to the Personal Data Protection Law; it does not make service management certification a requirement.
Jordan Accreditation System – Accreditation Unit (JAS-AU) and the recognition arrangement's member listAccreditation
The arrangement's member list dated 31 December 2025 shows JAS-AU with a product certification scope and no management systems scope, so the accreditation behind a ISO/IEC 20000-1 certificate must be checked; this is not a mandate.

Accreditation, audit language and remote audits in Jordan

Use a certification body accredited for ISO/IEC 20000-1 by an accreditation body within the international mutual recognition arrangements (Global ACI — Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated, formerly the IAF MLA); check that the accreditation scope covers the standard and your sector. The arrangement's member list dated 31 December 2025 shows Jordan's accreditation unit, JAS-AU, with a product certification scope and no management systems scope, so ask which accreditation body stands behind the certificate. The accredited certification body decides, not Sterling. Edition and transition details: ISO/IEC 20000-1 hub →

    Audit language

Arabic and English are both used in audits and documents; agree the audit language, any interpreter and the language of controlled documents with the certification body at application, and say early if interviews will run in Arabic.

    Remote and on-site

Many process audits can be run remotely at the certification body's discretion; service desks, data centres and operations rooms in scope are usually visited.

ISO 20000-1 in Jordan: questions clients ask

Does the Central Bank of Jordan require ISO/IEC 20000-1?

The Bank's cyber risk instructions and financial sector framework do not name ISO/IEC 20000-1. The framework lists the 2016 instructions on governance and management of information and technology among the regulations to follow. Service management certification is a way for an IT provider to show banks structured service processes, so ask each bank customer what it expects.

How do ISO/IEC 20000-1 and ISO 27001 fit together in a Jordanian service provider?

ISO/IEC 20000-1 governs how services are designed, delivered and improved through incident, change, capacity and service level processes, while ISO 27001 secures information. Providers serving banks often hold both, and the shared processes such as incident and change management are audited once and evidenced twice, which saves effort in the second project.

Is ISO/IEC 20000-1 useful for cloud and data centre providers in Jordan?

It can be. The National Cyber Security Center issued a Cyber Security Policy for Cloud Computing Services in 2025 that sets expectations for cloud use. ISO/IEC 20000-1 does not satisfy that policy, but its service management processes give customers evidence of controlled operations. Read the policy for the data classes it distinguishes and check which apply to your customers.

Which bodies certify IT service management in Jordan?

Accredited certification bodies; Sterling does not certify. Jordan's accreditation unit is recorded for product certification only on the end-of-2025 national listing, so the accreditation behind a service management certificate may come from a body elsewhere. Ask candidates for the accreditation certificate, its scope for ISO/IEC 20000-1 and examples of similar providers they have audited.
