In short

ISO 27701 certification in Jakarta at a glance

Processors and outsourcers who run services for clients from Jakarta's business districts often hear a very specific request: show us how you protect the personal data you handle for us. ISO 27701 is built for that conversation. As an extension to ISO 27001 and ISO 27002, it adds privacy controls and guidance for organisations acting as controllers and as processors, covering records of processing, purposes, individual rights, sharing and retention. Hospitals, schools and shops in districts like Kembangan, where the West Jakarta administration lists them, hold the kind of records it protects. Sterling's Jakarta office builds the privacy management system on your security base and prepares the audit. An accredited certification body issues the certificate.

Privacy has an ownerManagement assigns responsibility for privacy and sets objectives, so everyone who handles personal data knows their role.

People can exercise their rightsRequests to access, correct or delete data, and other individual rights, run through a defined and timely process.
Sharing and suppliers are controlledDisclosures, transfers and processors are governed by agreements and checks, so data is used only as agreed.
You can demonstrate itRecords of processing, notices and decisions are kept, and the privacy system is audited and reviewed like any management system.

ISO 27701 in Jakarta: questions clients ask

Do I need ISO 27001 before ISO 27701?

In practice yes. ISO 27701 is an extension of ISO 27001 and ISO 27002, so the information security system is the base and the privacy information management system sits on top. An organisation can build both together. The certificate for the privacy standard is issued alongside, or after, a valid ISO 27001 one.

Does ISO 27701 satisfy Indonesia's personal data law for a Jakarta firm?

No. It is a management system, not a legal safe harbour, though it organises many of the controls the law expects, such as records, roles and risk assessment. Whether a particular duty is met depends on the law and the facts. The country page sets out the law; confirm specifics with your counsel.
