AS9100 certification in Hong Kong at a glance
One Hong Kong instrument bears on AS9100. It does not name the standard. So why do buyers in Hong Kong keep asking for the certificate?
Aerospace supply chains run on their own quality standard, and a general ISO 9001 certificate rarely satisfies an aviation customer's purchase conditions. AS9100 adds product safety, configuration management, first article inspection, counterfeit parts prevention and special-process control to the ISO 9001 base. For Hong Kong, the route has one local twist: HKCAS, the Hong Kong Accreditation Service's certification body scheme, does not list AS9100, so certificates come from certification bodies operating within the IAQG scheme and accredited elsewhere, with results recorded in the IAQG's OASIS database. Precision manufacturers at Tai Po InnoPark, microelectronics firms in Yuen Long and regional sourcing offices are the typical candidates. Sterling's expert and experienced consultants extend an existing quality system or build one from the start, covering risk, configuration, supplier control and the records an aerospace auditor samples, with Effivity software and Sterling Academy training included in the engagement. The route and common questions follow.
Who needs AS9100 in Hong Kong, and what happens without it
In Hong Kong the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.
- Precision manufacturers in Tai Po InnoPark supplying aviation customersAerospace primes and tier suppliers ask for AS9100 in purchase conditions.
- Hong Kong-based sourcing offices managing aerospace component supply from the regionCustomers expect AS9100-certified quality management across the supply chain.
- Electronics and microelectronics makers entering aerospace supply chainsCustomer flow-down requirements.

Strip away the vocabulary and AS9100 asks a supplier to prove six things about delivering aerospace products safely and on time.
In Hong Kong these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: AS9100 explained →

How long does AS9100 certification take in Hong Kong?
There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Hong Kong these are the factors that set the timeline.
- Product and process complexity, including special processes
- Configuration management and first article inspection maturity
- Customer-specific requirements to be incorporated
- Certification body scheduling around general holidays and Tropical Cyclone Signal No. 8 or Black Rainstorm disruptions
Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.
How much does AS9100 certification cost in Hong Kong?
The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the certification body’s audit fees, which are quoted separately. In Hong Kong these factors move both.
- Number of sites and headcount
- Special processes in scope
- Certification body audit fees quoted separately from consulting
- Customer-specific requirements
Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.
AS9100 consultants and certification bodies in Hong Kong
Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an accredited certification body then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.
- Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers AS9100 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
- Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Hong Kong are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
- Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
- Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.

Use a certification body accredited for AS9100 by an accreditation body within the international mutual recognition arrangements (Global ACI — Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated, formerly the IAF MLA); check that the scope covers the standard and your sector. No body is named here unless its accreditation scope has been verified. Certificates should appear in the IAQG OASIS database. Edition and transition details: AS9100 hub →

Remote and on-site
Remote audit elements are at the certification body's discretion under its accreditation rules; operational sites are normally visited on-site.
AS9100 in Hong Kong: questions clients ask
Can a Hong Kong company get AS9100 certification?
Yes. A Hong Kong company needs a certification body accredited for AS9100 by an accreditation body within the international mutual recognition arrangements, because HKCAS does not list AS9100. Those arrangements are the IAF MLA, whose functions passed to Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated in 2026. Confirm the body's scope covers the standard and your sector, and that certificates appear in the IAQG OASIS database.
Is AS9100 accredited in Hong Kong?
Not through HKCAS. The Hong Kong Accreditation Service lists no accreditation for AS9100 certification, which means accredited certificates come from bodies accredited elsewhere within the international arrangements. A local HKCAS listing is therefore not the test to apply when you compare certification bodies; examine each body's own accreditation and its scope instead.
How is AS9100 different from ISO 9001?
AS9100 is built on ISO 9001 and adds aerospace-specific requirements to it. A company holding ISO 9001 alone therefore has the general quality management base but not the extra aerospace layer. Treat ISO 9001 as the foundation that AS9100 extends, and plan the additional requirements as a distinct body of work rather than assuming the existing certificate carries over.
