In short

ISO 37301 certification in Egypt at a glance

In Egypt, ISO 37301 is asked for by buyers and schemes rather than required by law. The drivers below show where the pressure comes from.

An Egyptian bank answers to its central bank, a pharmaceutical company to the drug authority, a food plant to the food safety authority and a data holder to the Personal Data Protection Center, and ISO 37301 is the standard for running all those obligations as one managed system: register, risk assessment, controls, reporting and review. Global ACI's entry for the Egyptian Accreditation Council shows the standard in its scope tree without a recognition date, so check each certification body's accredited scope. Law No. 151 of 2020 adds permits and licences that a compliance register would track. Multinational subsidiaries and outsourcing firms handling regulated client data meet similar expectations from group parents and customers. Sterling's Dubai office helps build the obligations register, risk assessment, controls and review cycle, with Effivity and Sterling Academy included with the engagement.

The need

Who needs ISO 37301 in Egypt, and what happens without it

In Egypt the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.

  • Banks, insurers and fintechsThey already run compliance functions, and a certified compliance management system adds structure across several regulators.
  • Pharmaceutical, healthcare and food companiesMultiple authorities inspect these sectors, so a register of obligations and a way to track them is valuable.
  • Multinational subsidiariesGroup compliance programmes expect local entities to show a working system.
  • Outsourcing firms handling regulated client dataClient contracts bring obligations that need tracking and evidence.
  • Companies obtaining permits under the data protection LawThe Center's permit and licence system adds obligations to be recorded and monitored.

ISO 37301 requirements in Egypt

Strip away the vocabulary and ISO 37301 requires a company to prove six things about how it meets its legal and other obligations.

You know your obligationsObligations from laws, regulators, contracts and voluntary commitments are identified and kept current.
The governing body and management leadThe governing body and top management set the compliance policy and support a culture in which compliance is expected.
A compliance function has authorityA compliance function is resourced, independent enough to act and has direct access to the governing body.
Compliance risks are assessedRisks of failing to meet obligations are assessed, and controls are designed in proportion to them.
Concerns are raised and handledPeople can raise concerns without fear of retaliation, and suspected breaches are investigated and corrected.
You monitor and reportCompliance performance is monitored, reported to leadership, audited and reviewed so the system improves.

In Egypt these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: ISO 37301 explained →

How Sterling gets an Egyptian company certified

How to get ISO 37301 certified in Egypt

One team from the Dubai office carries the work from scoping to certificate. Clients across Egypt are served from Sterling's Dubai office, on-site where the work needs it and remotely otherwise.

    1. Discovery call and scopeEntities, locations, regulators and target date, agreed before any proposal.
    2. Gap assessment against ISO 37301 and the Egyptian requirements that apply to youControls you already run for your regulators and customers are reused, not rebuilt.
    3. Your system built with your team in EffivityRisks, controls, evidence, incidents and reviews in one live system the auditor can see.
    4. Internal audit, management review and corrective actionsYour internal auditors trained by Sterling; the evidence proven before the certification body arrives.
    5. Certification body stage 1 and stage 2, then surveillanceAn accredited body audits and decides. Sterling supports the audits and the three-year cycle.

      Time

How long does ISO 37301 certification take in Egypt?

There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Egypt these are the factors that set the timeline.

      • Register of compliance obligations across regulators
      • Risk assessment and control mapping
      • Complaints, reporting and investigation records to establish
      • Certification body scheduling around the Eid periods

Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.

      Cost

How much does ISO 37301 certification cost in Egypt?

The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the certification body’s audit fees, which are quoted separately. In Egypt these factors move both.

      • Number of entities, regulators and obligations in scope
      • Compliance tooling and training
      • Certification body audit fees, quoted separately from consulting
      • Combining with ISO 37001 or ISO/IEC 27001 audits

Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.

        Choosing a partner

ISO 37301 consultants and certification bodies in Egypt

Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an accredited certification body then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.

        • Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers ISO 37301 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
        • Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Egypt are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
        • Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
        • Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.

Laws and regulations that drive ISO 37301 in Egypt (2)

          InstrumentHow it treats the standard
Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC) recognition entriesAccreditation
Global ACI's entry for EGAC shows ISO 37301 (CMS) in its management-system scope tree without a recognition date, so ask the certification body (ISO/IEC TS 17021-13) to show its current accreditation scope.
Personal Data Protection Law, Law No. 151 of 2020, and the Personal Data Protection CenterRelated
Law No. 151 of 2020 and its permits are one of several Egyptian obligations a compliance management system would register; ISO 37301 is voluntary and does not replace them.

Accreditation, audit language and remote audits in Egypt

Use a certification body accredited for ISO 37301 by the Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC) or by an accreditation body within the international mutual recognition arrangements (Global ACI — Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated, formerly the IAF MLA); check that the accreditation scope covers the standard and your sector. Global ACI's entry for EGAC shows ISO 37301 (CMS) in its scope tree without a recognition date, so ask any certification body to show its accreditation certificate and scope for the standard. The accredited certification body decides, not Sterling. Edition and transition details: ISO 37301 hub →

          Audit language

Arabic is the official language and English is common in business; agree the audit language, any interpreter and the language of controlled documents with the certification body at application, and say early if shop-floor interviews will run in Arabic.

          Remote and on-site

Remote audit elements are at the certification body's discretion; interviews with compliance, legal and operational owners and sampling of registers and cases can be partly remote.

ISO 37301 in Egypt: questions clients ask

Is ISO 37301 required of Egyptian companies?

No general requirement is shown here. Regulators, group parents and customers decide whether they want a certified compliance management system, and many ask only for evidence of one. Read the contract or supervisory expectation that prompted the question, and take advice from counsel on which obligations bind your organisation.

Is a locally accredited ISO 37301 certificate available?

Global ACI's entry for the Egyptian Accreditation Council shows ISO 37301 in its scope tree without a recognition date, which is not the same as a dated recognition. Ask any certification body to show its accreditation certificate and scope for the standard. Foreign-accredited bodies also operate in Egypt.

What is a register of compliance obligations?

A maintained list of the laws, permits, regulator expectations and contractual commitments that bind the organisation, each with an owner and a control. Auditors start there. In Egypt it would cover several regulators at once, so building it with counsel and updating it when rules change is the foundation of the system.

How does ISO 37301 differ from ISO 37001?

ISO 37001 targets bribery specifically, while ISO 37301 covers all compliance obligations, including bribery as one risk. Organisations facing multiple regulators often prefer the broader system, whereas contractors dealing with multinational customers may be asked for the anti-bribery standard. They share structure, so one can be built on the other.
