ISO 37001 certification in Egypt at a glance
In Egypt, ISO 37001 is asked for by buyers and schemes rather than required by law. The drivers below show where the pressure comes from.
Bribery risk in Egypt is rarely about a single dramatic act; it sits in routine contact with officials, agents and subcontractors on licences, customs clearances and project approvals. Multinational customers pass anti-bribery clauses down to their suppliers, and ISO 37001 gives contractors, exporters and pharmaceutical firms a structure of risk assessment, due diligence, approvals and reporting channels that can be audited. Global ACI's entry for the Egyptian Accreditation Council lists the standard in its scope tree without a recognition date, so check each certification body's accreditation scope. The Egyptian Organization for Standards and Quality records management system certificates in general. No Egyptian rule shown here makes the certificate universal, so customers decide. Sterling's Dubai office helps design the risk assessment, due diligence and procedures, with Effivity and Sterling Academy included with the engagement.
Who needs ISO 37001 in Egypt, and what happens without it
In Egypt the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.
- Suppliers and contractors to multinational companiesMultinational customers pass anti-bribery clauses and due diligence questionnaires down their supply chains.
- Construction, energy and infrastructure contractorsProjects with public clients and many subcontractors carry the highest bribery exposure and the most scrutiny.
- Exporters and logistics firms dealing with customs and licencesFrequent contact with officials makes documented controls over gifts, facilitation and agents valuable.
- Pharmaceutical and medical device firmsInteractions with healthcare professionals and the Egyptian Drug Authority call for clear rules and records.
- Banks and financial institutionsCompliance functions already screen customers and counterparties, and an anti-bribery system adds structured controls.

Strip away the vocabulary and ISO 37001 requires a company to prove six things about how it prevents, detects and responds to bribery.
In Egypt these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: ISO 37001 explained →

How long does ISO 37001 certification take in Egypt?
There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Egypt these are the factors that set the timeline.
- Bribery risk assessment across operations and agents
- Due diligence on business associates and subcontractors
- Gift, hospitality and facilitation procedures to write
- Certification body scheduling around the Eid periods
Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.
How much does ISO 37001 certification cost in Egypt?
The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the certification body’s audit fees, which are quoted separately. In Egypt these factors move both.
- Number of entities, countries and high-risk relationships in scope
- Due diligence tooling and training
- Certification body audit fees, quoted separately from consulting
- Investigation and speak-up channel set-up
Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.
ISO 37001 consultants and certification bodies in Egypt
Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an accredited certification body then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.
- Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers ISO 37001 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
- Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Egypt are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
- Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
- Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.
Laws and regulations that drive ISO 37001 in Egypt (2)
| Instrument | How it treats the standard |
|---|---|
| Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC) recognition entries | Accreditation Global ACI's entry for EGAC shows ISO 37001 (ABMS) in its management-system scope tree without a recognition date, so ask the certification body (ISO/IEC TS 17021-9) to show its current accreditation scope. |
| Egyptian Organization for Standards and Quality (EOS) — management system certificate registration | Process driver EOS states its registration unit records management system certificates and the granting bodies; the page does not say whether anti-bribery certificates are expected to be registered. |
Accreditation, audit language and remote audits in Egypt
Use a certification body accredited for ISO 37001 by the Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC) or by an accreditation body within the international mutual recognition arrangements (Global ACI — Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated, formerly the IAF MLA); check that the accreditation scope covers the standard and your sector. Global ACI's entry for EGAC shows ISO 37001 (ABMS) in its scope tree without a recognition date, so ask any certification body to show its accreditation certificate and scope for the standard. The accredited certification body decides, not Sterling. Edition and transition details: ISO 37001 hub →
Audit language
Arabic is the official language and English is common in business; agree the audit language, any interpreter and the language of controlled documents with the certification body at application, and say early if shop-floor interviews will run in Arabic.
Remote and on-site
Remote audit elements are at the certification body's discretion; interviews with procurement, finance and project staff and sampling of high-risk transactions are the core, and some can be conducted remotely.
ISO 37001 in Egypt: questions clients ask
Is ISO 37001 required for Egyptian contractors?
There is no general requirement shown here; customers and project owners decide. Multinational buyers and some large project owners write anti-bribery expectations into contracts and questionnaires, and a certificate is one way to answer. Read the compliance clauses of each contract, and confirm legal duties on bribery with your counsel.
Is a locally accredited ISO 37001 certificate available?
Global ACI's entry for the Egyptian Accreditation Council shows ISO 37001 in its scope tree without a recognition date. That is not the same as a dated recognition, so ask any certification body for its accreditation certificate and scope. Bodies accredited elsewhere also work in Egypt, and customers should confirm acceptance.
What does a bribery risk assessment look at?
Where money, approvals or favours change hands: licences, customs, tenders, agents, subcontractors and gifts. It rates how likely and how serious each exposure is and drives controls such as approvals and due diligence. Auditors read the assessment first and test whether controls match what it found.
Does ISO 37001 protect a company from prosecution?
No. The certificate shows an anti-bribery system exists and was audited; it does not guarantee that no offence occurred or bar investigation. It can help show that reasonable controls existed. Sterling does not give legal advice, so confirm exposure and defences with counsel.
