ISO 37301 certification in Denmark at a glance
Lov nr. 1436 af 29. juni 2021: Lov om beskyttelse af whistleblowere and the National Whistleblower Scheme is the instrument itself: it applies to the organisations within its scope, and buyers and partners in Denmark ask for evidence that you meet it.
Danish organisations rarely face one compliance duty at a time: GDPR supervision by Datatilsynet, NIS 2 oversight by SAMSIK and sector authorities, DORA for financial entities, and the Whistleblower Act with its national reporting scheme. ISO 37301 gives a single management system to organise those duties, with an obligations register, risk assessment, monitoring, reporting channels and corrective action. None of the Danish sources cited names the standard, so certification is a voluntary signal to customers, partners and public-sector buyers. It is carried out by a body accredited by DANAK or an equivalent accreditation body, not by Sterling. Sterling's Enschede office builds the system around the laws that matter to you and trains internal reviewers, with Effivity and Sterling Academy included in the engagement, supported by 8,100+ client engagements in 60+ countries.
Who needs ISO 37301 in Denmark, and what happens without it
In Denmark the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.
- Regulated firms managing several compliance obligationsA single compliance management system links GDPR, NIS 2, DORA and sector rules.
- Financial entities and their groupsDORA and national supervision by Finanstilsynet add layered obligations.
- Employers with reporting channelsThe Whistleblower Act and the National Whistleblower Scheme create duties that need a documented process.
- Medical device and food producersEach faces its own authority and expects systematic compliance monitoring.
- Groups operating in several EU countriesOne system keeps the obligations register and monitoring consistent across entities.

Strip away the vocabulary and ISO 37301 requires a company to prove six things about how it meets its legal and other obligations.
In Denmark these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: ISO 37301 explained →

How long does ISO 37301 certification take in Denmark?
There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Denmark these are the factors that set the timeline.
- Number of legal and regulatory obligations in the register
- Maturity of compliance risk assessment and monitoring
- Reporting and investigation processes
- Certification body scheduling
Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.
How much does ISO 37301 certification cost in Denmark?
The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the certification body’s audit fees, which are quoted separately. In Denmark these factors move both.
- Entities and jurisdictions in scope
- Compliance register and control remediation
- Certification body audit fees, quoted separately
- Training and awareness
Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.
ISO 37301 consultants and certification bodies in Denmark
Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an accredited certification body then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.
- Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers ISO 37301 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
- Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Denmark are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
- Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
- Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.

Accreditation, audit language and remote audits in Denmark
Choose a certification body accredited for this standard by DANAK, Denmark's national accreditation body, or by another accreditation body within the international mutual recognition arrangements (Global ACI — Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated, formerly the IAF MLA). Check that the body's accreditation scope covers the standard and your sector. No body is named here. Edition and transition details: ISO 37301 hub →
Audit language
Danish is the official language and English is widely used in business. Agree the audit language and the language of controlled documents with the certification body at application, and follow any language requirement in a contract or a regulator's procedure.
Remote and on-site
Audits are normally on-site, with interviews, and some review can be remote.
ISO 37301 in Denmark: questions clients ask
Do Danish authorities require a compliance management system?
Not by naming ISO 37301. The sources used here show separate duties: Whistleblower Act obligations, supervision by Finanstilsynet under DORA, NIS 2 authorities and sector regulators. A compliance management system organises these duties, obligations register, monitoring and corrective action. Whether a certificate adds value is for you and your counterparties to decide.
How does the Whistleblower Act affect compliance systems?
It creates reporting duties and channels. The Act, Lov nr. 1436 of 29 June 2021, underlies Datatilsynet's National Whistleblower Scheme, and the scheme's pages say larger workplaces must also set up an internal scheme. A compliance system documents who receives reports, how they are investigated and how lessons feed back. Confirm your duty with counsel.
What can people report to the National Whistleblower Scheme?
Information about breaches of EU law and serious offences such as bribery, fraud, eavesdropping and harassment, learned through work as an employee or partner. Reports may be made by phone, in writing or in person, and anonymously. Private matters are outside the scheme. Counsel can help to map those reports to internal processes.
Who would certify an ISO 37301 system?
An independent certification body whose accreditation, from DANAK or an equivalent body, covers compliance management systems. Check that scope before engaging it, because accreditation is by scope and the standard is newer than many. Sterling prepares the system and trains internal reviewers; it does not certify.
