ISO 37001 certification in Denmark at a glance
Lov nr. 1436 af 29. juni 2021: Lov om beskyttelse af whistleblowere and the National Whistleblower Scheme is the instrument itself: it applies to the organisations within its scope, and buyers and partners in Denmark ask for evidence that you meet it.
Bribery risk in Danish business is mostly met abroad: exporters, offshore wind and energy contractors and life sciences firms are asked by customers and partners to show how they prevent it. Denmark has reporting machinery, with the Whistleblower Act of 29 June 2021 and Datatilsynet's National Whistleblower Scheme, which takes reports of serious breaches such as bribery and fraud, but none of these names ISO 37001. A certified anti-bribery management system supplies the prevention side: risk assessment, due diligence, gifts procedures, training and investigation. Certification is carried out by a body accredited by DANAK or an equivalent accreditation body, not by Sterling. Sterling's Enschede office builds the system and trains your people, with Effivity and Sterling Academy included with the engagement.
Who needs ISO 37001 in Denmark, and what happens without it
In Denmark the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.
- Danish exporters and project contractors working abroadCustomers and partners in higher-risk markets ask suppliers for anti-bribery controls.
- Offshore wind and energy-sector contractorsLarge energy buyers apply integrity requirements through contracts.
- Organisations with a whistleblowing channelDatatilsynet's national scheme takes reports of serious breaches such as bribery and fraud, so a management system for handling them is relevant.
- Life sciences firms dealing with healthcare professionalsPharmaceutical and device firms deal with healthcare professionals, where integrity expectations are high.

Strip away the vocabulary and ISO 37001 requires a company to prove six things about how it prevents, detects and responds to bribery.
In Denmark these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: ISO 37001 explained →

How long does ISO 37001 certification take in Denmark?
There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Denmark these are the factors that set the timeline.
- Countries and business associates in scope
- Maturity of due diligence and gifts procedures
- Reporting and investigation processes
- Certification body scheduling
Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.
How much does ISO 37001 certification cost in Denmark?
The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the certification body’s audit fees, which are quoted separately. In Denmark these factors move both.
- Number of entities and jurisdictions
- Due diligence and control remediation
- Certification body audit fees, quoted separately
- Training for staff and business associates
Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.
ISO 37001 consultants and certification bodies in Denmark
Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an accredited certification body then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.
- Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers ISO 37001 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
- Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Denmark are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
- Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
- Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.

Accreditation, audit language and remote audits in Denmark
Choose a certification body accredited for this standard by DANAK, Denmark's national accreditation body, or by another accreditation body within the international mutual recognition arrangements (Global ACI — Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated, formerly the IAF MLA). Check that the body's accreditation scope covers the standard and your sector. No body is named here. Edition and transition details: ISO 37001 hub →
Audit language
Danish is the official language and English is widely used in business. Agree the audit language and the language of controlled documents with the certification body at application, and follow any language requirement in a contract or a regulator's procedure.
Remote and on-site
Audits are normally on-site, with interviews and sampling of transactions; some review can be remote.
ISO 37001 in Denmark: questions clients ask
Does Danish law require ISO 37001?
No Danish instrument cited here requires it. Datatilsynet's National Whistleblower Scheme and the Whistleblower Act provide reporting channels for serious breaches such as bribery and fraud, but neither names ISO 37001. Demand arises from customers and partners, particularly where Danish firms work in higher-risk markets. Ask counterparties what evidence they accept.
How does the National Whistleblower Scheme relate to an anti-bribery system?
It sits beside it. Datatilsynet's scheme takes reports from people who learned of serious breaches, including bribery and fraud, through their work, by phone, in writing or in person, and anonymously if they wish. An anti-bribery management system covers prevention, due diligence and internal investigation. Counsel can advise on how reports are routed in your organisation.
Must employers set up an internal reporting channel?
Larger workplaces must, according to the National Whistleblower Scheme's own pages, which refer to Lov nr. 1436 of 29 June 2021 on protection of whistleblowers. The size threshold and obligations are set in the Act. An ISO 37001 system can include a reporting line, but check your duty with counsel.
Who certifies ISO 37001 in Denmark?
Third-party certification bodies, with accreditation from DANAK or an equivalent body covering anti-bribery management systems. Confirm that scope explicitly rather than assuming it, since accreditation is granted scope by scope. Sterling designs the controls, risk assessment and training, but cannot issue the certificate.
