ISO 27001 certification in Beijing at a glance
Where there is software, there is information to protect. Beijing's Haidian Cluster prioritises software, information technology services and artificial intelligence, and the CBD, which the municipal site reported in June 2026 as home to nearly 1,200 licensed financial institutions, runs on confidential data. ISO/IEC 27001 is the information security management standard behind most customer security questionnaires: risk assessment and treatment, a statement of applicability, selected controls, internal audit and management review. It is also the usual foundation for ISO/IEC 27701 and for SOC 2 programmes. China adopts it identically as a national standard, covered on the country page. Sterling builds the system for Beijing teams from its Shanghai office and prepares them for an accredited certification body, with Effivity and Sterling Academy included.

ISO 27001 in Beijing: questions clients ask
Which Beijing companies are most often asked for ISO 27001?
Software, cloud and AI providers in the Haidian Cluster that sell to enterprises, and suppliers to the financial institutions and headquarters in the CBD. Their customers send security questionnaires and ask for certificates in tenders. Firms selling only to consumers are asked less often, though group parents may still require it.
Does ISO 27001 cover China's data laws for a Beijing company?
No. It gives a structured way to manage security, and many controls support legal duties, but it does not replace compliance with national data laws. Those obligations, including personal information rules and audit duties, are explained on the China page. Confirm your own position with counsel or the competent authority.
