How long does ISO 27701 certification take in Belgium?

ISO 27701 consultants and certification bodies in Belgium
Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an accredited certification body then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.

Audit language
Dutch, French and German are the official languages and English is common in business. Agree the audit language and the language of controlled documents with the certification body at application, and follow any language requirement in a contract or a regulator's procedure.

Stage audits are usually on-site; privacy-record review can be done remotely at the certification body's discretion.
ISO 27701 in Belgium: questions clients ask
Does an ISO/IEC 27701 certificate prove GDPR compliance in Belgium?
No. The Gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit supervises the GDPR and a management-system certificate does not bind it. ISO/IEC 27701 gives you a structured privacy management system and independent audit evidence, which helps in due diligence and complaint handling. Whether you comply on a given point remains a legal question for your counsel.
Who benefits most from ISO/IEC 27701 in Belgium?
Processors and non-EU businesses are the clearest cases. The Act of 30 July 2018 applies to establishments on Belgian territory and to non-EU controllers who offer goods or services to people in Belgium or monitor their behaviour there, so customers want proof that a provider's privacy controls are organised and independently audited.
Do we need ISO/IEC 27001 first?
Practically, yes. ISO/IEC 27701 is an extension that adds privacy requirements to an information security management system, so organisations usually certify or extend the two together. If you hold ISO/IEC 27001 already, the privacy extension reuses much of its governance, risk assessment and internal audit machinery.
Who certifies ISO/IEC 27701 for a Belgian company?
A certification body, not Sterling. Look for one holding accreditation for this standard from BELAC or from another body within the international recognition arrangements, and ask for the written scope.
