In short

SOC 2 attestation in Bangladesh at a glance

In Bangladesh, SOC 2 is asked for by buyers and schemes rather than required by law. The drivers below show where the pressure comes from.

SOC 2 reaches a Bangladeshi software, BPO or fintech company through a customer's security questionnaire, usually from the United States or Europe. It is not a certificate: a licensed CPA firm examines the company's controls against the AICPA trust services criteria and issues an attestation report, either a Type 1 report on design at a point in time or a Type 2 report that also covers operation over a period. No Bangladeshi regulator names it; Bangladesh Bank's ICT guideline asks banks for internal and external audits without mentioning it. Neither Sterling nor an ISO certification body issues the report, so choose a CPA firm your customers accept. Sterling's Mumbai office helps with scoping, control design, evidence and readiness reviews, with Effivity software and Sterling Academy training included with the engagement.

The need

Who needs SOC 2 in Bangladesh, and what happens without it

In Bangladesh the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.

  • Software and SaaS companies selling to US and European customersEnterprise buyers ask vendors for a SOC 2 report in security questionnaires.
  • BPO and shared-service providers handling client dataClients want independent assurance over security and availability controls.
  • Fintechs and payment providers serving international partnersPartners ask for an attestation report alongside local regulatory evidence.
  • Cloud and managed-service providersCustomers rely on the provider's controls and expect an independent report on them.

Not sure which of these applies to you?Answer a short set of questions and your readiness report arrives by e-mail.

Requirements

SOC 2 requirements in Bangladesh

Strip away the vocabulary and SOC 2 asks a service organisation to report on six things about the controls behind its service.

You describe your system accuratelyA system description sets out your services, infrastructure, people, data and the boundaries of what the report covers.
Security is designed inControls protect the system against unauthorised access and use; security is the one category every SOC 2 report includes.
Access is granted on need and reviewedLogical and physical access is approved on need, removed when no longer required and reviewed regularly.
Changes and operations are controlledSystem changes are authorised and tested, and operations are monitored so incidents are detected and handled.
Risks and vendors are assessedRisks to your commitments, including those coming from vendors and business partners, are assessed and acted on.
Controls work over timeFor a Type 2 report, a licensed CPA firm tests that the controls operated effectively across the review period.

In Bangladesh these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: SOC 2 explained →

How Sterling gets a Bangladeshi company ready for its SOC 2 report

How to get a SOC 2 report in Bangladesh

One team from the Mumbai office carries the work from scoping to report. Clients across Bangladesh are served from Sterling's Mumbai office, on-site where the work needs it and remotely otherwise.

    Time

How long does SOC 2 attestation take in Bangladesh?

There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Bangladesh these are the factors that set the timeline.

    • Type 1 or Type 2 report and the observation period
    • Scope of systems, services and trust services criteria
    • Maturity of access control, change management and monitoring evidence
    • CPA firm availability

Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.

    Cost

How much does SOC 2 attestation cost in Bangladesh?

The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the CPA firm’s fees, which are quoted separately. In Bangladesh these factors move both.

    • Number of systems, services and criteria in scope
    • CPA firm fees quoted separately from readiness consulting
    • Tooling for evidence collection and monitoring
    • Remediation of control gaps

Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.

    Choosing a partner

SOC 2 consultants and auditors in Bangladesh

Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; a licensed CPA firm then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.

    • Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers SOC 2 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
    • Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Bangladesh are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
    • Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
    • Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.

Laws and regulations that drive SOC 2 in Bangladesh (3)

      InstrumentHow it treats the standard
AICPA SOC 2 reporting frameworkScheme rule
A SOC 2 report is issued by a licensed CPA firm after examining controls against the trust services criteria; the buyer decides which report type and period it wants.
Bangladesh Bank Guideline on ICT Security, Version 4.0 (2023)Context
Requires internal information system audit and external audit by qualified auditors for banks and financial institutions; it does not mention SOC 2.
Personal Data Protection Act, 2026 (Act No. 63 of 2026)Context
Security and processing duties for data-fiduciaries and processors; it creates no attestation report.

Accreditation, audit language and remote audits in Bangladesh

SOC 2 is an attestation report issued by a licensed CPA firm, not a certificate and not an accreditation scheme. Sterling does not issue, attest or validate it. Choose a CPA firm that your customers accept and that can work with your time zone and scope, and ask whether it can examine cloud and outsourced controls. Edition and transition details: SOC 2 hub →

      Audit language

Reports are written in English; interviews and evidence can be in Bangla if the examining firm's team can work in it. Agree the working language and evidence format with the CPA firm at the outset.

      Remote and on-site

Much of the examination is remote, through evidence portals and walkthroughs, with on-site visits where the firm needs to see operations or data rooms.

SOC 2 in Bangladesh: questions clients ask

      Is SOC 2 a certification?

No. It is an attestation report: a licensed CPA firm examines your controls against the trust services criteria and writes an opinion, which customers read under NDA. Neither Sterling nor an ISO certification body issues it. Ask each candidate firm about its experience with companies like yours.

Does any Bangladeshi regulator require SOC 2?

Not that the sources show. Bangladesh Bank's ICT guideline requires internal and external information system audits for banks and financial institutions but does not mention SOC 2, and the data law creates no attestation. SOC 2 is requested by customers. Ask each customer which report type and period it expects.

What is the difference between a Type 1 and Type 2 report?

Type 1 covers whether controls were suitably designed on one date; Type 2 goes further and tests whether they worked across an observation window. Large customers frequently ask for Type 2. Find out which your biggest accounts will accept, and only then fix the window and the evidence routine.

How does SOC 2 relate to ISO 27001?

They overlap in controls but differ in form: ISO 27001 is a certificate issued by an accredited certification body against a management system standard, while SOC 2 is a CPA firm's attestation report. US buyers often ask for SOC 2, international and Asian ones for ISO 27001. Many firms hold both; ask your customers which they prefer.
