In short

TISAX assessment in South Korea at a glance

In South Korea, TISAX is asked for by buyers and schemes rather than required by law. The drivers below show where the pressure comes from.

Automotive suppliers that handle a partner's design data, production information or prototypes are increasingly asked for a TISAX label instead of answering each customer's own security audit. The scheme is governed by the ENX Association, which approves the audit providers, and it assesses a company against the Information Security Assessment catalogue published by the VDA; the VDA released ISA2027 on 1 July 2026. Results are issued as TISAX labels that reflect the chosen assessment objectives, such as information security, data protection or prototype protection, and are shared only with selected partners through the ENX Portal. ENX describes the scheme as strengthening supply-chain resilience in Germany, Europe and worldwide, so suppliers outside Europe, including in South Korea, can be asked for it by partners in those chains. TISAX is an assessment, not an accredited certification. Sterling's Tokyo office prepares the scope, controls and evidence, with Effivity and Sterling Academy included with the engagement.

The need

Who needs TISAX in South Korea, and what happens without it

In South Korea the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.

  • Automotive parts and component makers exchanging design data with partnersENX names design data, production information, customer information, prototypes and intellectual property as the information the scheme exists to protect.
  • Engineering, software and development service providersThey receive design data and intellectual property from automotive partners, which is what a TISAX assessment scope describes.
  • Logistics, IT and facility partners of automotive companiesENX says all companies that exchange information with each other in TISAX are participants, so any partner handling classified information can register.
  • Prototype and test-vehicle handlersPrototype protection is one of the assessment objectives that TISAX labels reflect.
  • Organisations already running an information security management systemThe assessment starts with a self-assessment against the ISA catalogue, so existing ISMS evidence supports it.

Requirements

TISAX requirements in South Korea

Strip away the vocabulary and TISAX asks an automotive supplier to be assessed on six things about protecting its customers' information.

Information security is managedAn information security management system, measured against the VDA ISA catalogue, governs how information is protected.
Prototypes are protectedWhere the assessment objectives include it, prototype parts and vehicles are physically and organisationally protected.
Customer information is handled at the agreed levelConfidential information from vehicle makers is classified, access-restricted and handled to the protection level required.
Third parties meet the same barSuppliers and service providers handling customer information are held to the same protection requirements.
Personal data is protected where in scopeData protection requirements apply when you process personal data on behalf of customers and that objective is in scope.
Results are shared through ENXAn approved audit provider assesses you, and results are shared with customers through the ENX exchange.

In South Korea these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: TISAX explained →

      Time

How long does TISAX assessment take in South Korea?

There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In South Korea these are the factors that set the timeline.

      • Assessment objectives chosen, such as information security, data protection or prototype protection
      • Number of locations in the assessment scope
      • Existing ISMS evidence available for the self-assessment
      • Audit provider availability

Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.

      Cost

How much does TISAX assessment cost in South Korea?

The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the audit provider’s fees, which are quoted separately. In South Korea these factors move both.

      • Assessment level and number of objectives
      • Number of locations in scope
      • Audit provider fees and ENX registration fees quoted separately from consulting
      • Physical security work for prototype protection

Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.

        Choosing a partner

TISAX consultants and assessors in South Korea

Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an approved audit provider then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.

        • Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers TISAX and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
        • Ask the consultant how the local requirements in South Korea are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
        • Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
        • Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.

Laws and regulations that drive TISAX in South Korea (3)

          InstrumentHow it treats the standard
TISAX (ENX Association) and the VDA Information Security Assessment catalogueScheme rule
Assessment against the ISA catalogue maintained by ENX and published by the VDA, with third-party audits and an exchange mechanism giving proof of an assessed ISMS.
TISAX roles and participant registration (ENX FAQ)Scheme rule
ENX approves audit providers and monitors quality; participants register a company and at least one assessment scope, then order an assessment from an approved audit provider.
VDA ISA2027 release (ENX news)Scheme rule
The VDA published ISA2027 on 1 July 2026, and a German-language version ISA2027.1 has been available since 1 October 2026.

Accreditation, audit language and remote audits in South Korea

Assessment, not certification: TISAX audit providers approved by the ENX Association assess the registered scope, and results are shared as labels through the ENX Portal. The route does not run through accreditation by KAB, and no audit provider is named here. Edition and transition details: TISAX hub →

          Audit language

ENX publishes its Participant Handbook in English and German; agree the assessment language with the audit provider.

          Remote and on-site

ENX says the assessment may range from document reviews to detailed on-site inspections, depending on the protection level required.

TISAX in South Korea: questions clients ask

Does TISAX count as an accredited certification?

No. TISAX is an assessment governed by the ENX Association, which approves the audit providers that carry it out. The outcome is a label for the scope you registered, not a certificate from an accredited certification body, so you do not look for a KAB-accredited provider. Ask your automotive partner which labels and objectives it requires before you register.

          Who sees our TISAX results?

Only the partners you choose. ENX describes the ENX Portal as the place where participants share results with selected partners, and says results are not publicly available. That keeps control and confidentiality with you: you decide which customers receive a label, and you can add partners as new business arrives.

What do the assessment objectives change?

They decide what the audit provider assesses and what your label shows. ENX says labels reflect the objectives, for example information security, data protection or prototype protection, and a participant registers at least one with each scope. Agree the objectives with your automotive partner first, because a label that covers the wrong objective will not meet its request.

Has the TISAX assessment catalogue changed recently?

Yes. ENX reports that the VDA published ISA2027 on 1 July 2026, and a German-language version, ISA2027.1, has been available since 1 October 2026. If you are planning an assessment, ask your audit provider which catalogue version applies to your timing and whether ENX has published guidance on any changes.
