In short

AS9100 certification in Singapore at a glance

In Singapore, AS9100 is asked for by buyers and schemes rather than required by law. The drivers below show where the pressure comes from.

Precision machining shops, maintenance suppliers and parts distributors serving the aerospace industry are asked for one quality credential above others: AS9100. The Singapore Accreditation Council describes it as a quality management system standard laid out specifically for aerospace and based on ISO 9001, and names the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) as the regulator governing the industry; no CAAS rule requiring AS9100 was found, so the requirement arrives through the customer. Certificates are issued by certification bodies operating under the IAQG scheme, and certified suppliers appear in IAQG's OASIS database with their certification and accreditation bodies, which is where a prime contractor's supplier-quality team will look. AS9100 adds configuration management, product safety, counterfeit-part prevention and first article inspection to the ISO 9001 base. Sterling prepares Singapore suppliers from its Singapore office, building on any existing ISO 9001 system, with Effivity and Sterling Academy included in the engagement. The route and common questions follow.

The need

Who needs AS9100 in Singapore, and what happens without it

In Singapore the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.

  • Precision machining and component manufacturers supplying aerospace primesPrime contractors check supplier certification in OASIS.
  • Distributors and logistics firms handling aerospace partsTraceability and counterfeit-part controls.

AS9100 requirements in Singapore

Strip away the vocabulary and AS9100 asks a supplier to prove six things about delivering aerospace products safely and on time.

Product safety is managedRisks to product safety are identified and controlled throughout the product's life, from design to delivery.
Configuration is under controlThe approved configuration of each product is identified, changes are controlled and records match what was delivered.
Counterfeit parts are kept outPurchasing, inspection and supplier controls stop counterfeit or suspect parts from entering the product.
Operational risks are managedRisks to delivery and product conformity are assessed and controlled during planning and production.
Production is proven before it runsProduction process verification, such as first article inspection, confirms that processes can make conforming product.
Delivery and conformity are measuredOn-time delivery and product conformity are measured, and human factors are considered when nonconformities are investigated.

In Singapore these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: AS9100 explained →

How Sterling gets a Singapore company certified

How to get AS9100 certified in Singapore

One team from the Singapore office carries the work from scoping to certificate. Island-wide on-site delivery from the Singapore office; remote delivery for regional and distributed teams.

    1. Discovery call and scopeEntities, locations, regulators and target date, agreed before any proposal.
    2. Gap assessment against AS9100 and the Singapore requirements that apply to youControls you already run for your regulators and customers are reused, not rebuilt.
    3. Your system built with your team in EffivityRisks, controls, evidence, incidents and reviews in one live system the auditor can see.
    4. Internal audit, management review and corrective actionsYour internal auditors trained by Sterling; the evidence proven before the certification body arrives.
    5. Certification body stage 1 and stage 2, then surveillanceAn accredited body audits and decides. Sterling supports the audits and the three-year cycle.

      Time

How long does AS9100 certification take in Singapore?

There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Singapore these are the factors that set the timeline.

      • Existing ISO 9001 system and its maturity
      • Number of product families and special processes
      • First article inspection and configuration records available

Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.

      Cost

How much does AS9100 certification cost in Singapore?

The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the certification body’s audit fees, which are quoted separately. In Singapore these factors move both.

      • Number of sites and special processes in scope
      • Certification body audit fees quoted separately from consulting
      • Extent of customer-specific requirements

Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.

        Choosing a partner

AS9100 consultants and certification bodies in Singapore

Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an accredited certification body then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.

        • Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers AS9100 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
        • Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Singapore are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
        • Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
        • Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.

Laws and regulations that drive AS9100 in Singapore (2)

          InstrumentHow it treats the standard
IAQG OASIS (Online Aerospace Supplier Information System)Scheme rule
Lists suppliers certified/registered under IAQG rules to the 9100 series, with their certification and accreditation bodies.
SAC — aviation and aerospace sector guidanceMarket driver
SAC describes AS 9100 as an aerospace QMS standard based on ISO 9001 and names CAAS as the industry regulator; no CAAS requirement for AS9100 confirmed.

Accreditation, audit language and remote audits in Singapore

AS9100 certificates are issued by certification bodies operating under IAQG rules with the relevant accreditation; results appear in OASIS. No body is named here unless verified. Edition and transition details: AS9100 hub →

          Audit language

English audits are the norm; agree the audit and document language with the certification body at application.

          Remote and on-site

Remote audit elements are at the certification body's discretion under its accreditation rules; operational sites are normally visited on-site.

AS9100 in Singapore: questions clients ask

          Does CAAS require AS9100?

No requirement from CAAS has been confirmed. SAC names CAAS as the regulator of the aerospace industry and describes AS 9100 as an aerospace quality standard based on ISO 9001, but the real driver is your aerospace customer. Read your customer's purchase terms to see whether they ask for it.

How do customers check our AS9100 certificate?

Through OASIS. The International Aerospace Quality Group's Online Aerospace Supplier Information System shows each supplier holding a 9100-series certificate under IAQG rules, and names both the certification body that issued it and the accreditation body behind that issuer. Check with your certification body that your entry is live before buyers go looking for it.

          AS9100, AS9110 or AS9120 — which applies?

It depends on what your organisation does. AS9100 suits design and manufacture, AS9110 is for maintenance organisations, and AS9120 is for distributors. If your activities span more than one, discuss the scope with your certification body before you apply. Scope is set at application, so raise the question early.
