ISO and GRC certification in Saint Kitts and Nevis at a glance

Certification demand in Saint Kitts and Nevis follows tourism, food production, regulated finance and the quality-infrastructure agenda of a very small economy. The St. Kitts and Nevis Bureau of Standards, which works under the Bureau of Standards and Quality Act No. 19 of 2021, has adopted ISO 14001, ISO 22000, ISO 45001 and ISO 50001 as national standards, together with a long series of ISO tourism standards for hotels, yacht harbours and adventure activities, and says its three testing laboratories are ISO/IEC 17025 accredited. The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank supervises banks, the Financial Services Regulatory Commission covers insurance, trusts and money service businesses, and the Anti-Corruption Act, 2023 sets integrity offences for dealings with Government. No accreditation body for the Federation appears in the IAAC or ILAC lists, so certificates usually carry accreditation from another economy. Sterling's New York office works with clients on site where the work needs it and remotely otherwise, bringing 8,100+ client engagements across 60+ countries and 20+ years, with Effivity and Sterling Academy included in every engagement. An accredited certification body issues certificates; Sterling does not.

Accreditation and recognition

  • St. Kitts and Nevis Bureau of Standards (SKNBS): National standards body and National Accreditation Focal Point: the Bureau's accreditation page says a National Accreditation Focal Point is the administrative link between potential clients and established accreditation bodies and that SKNBS houses it for Saint Kitts and Nevis.
  • CARICOM Regional Organisation for Standards and Quality (CROSQ): Regional standards organisation to which Saint Kitts and Nevis belongs; the Bureau's membership page says all fifteen CARICOM member states are members of CROSQ, and its accreditation page describes the Caribbean Cooperation for Accreditation scheme set up through memoranda of understanding in April 2013 between the CROSQ Secretariat and national accreditation focal points and bodies.

Look for a certification body whose accreditation scope covers your standard and sector, from a national accreditation body recognised under the international arrangements of Global ACI (Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated, formerly the IAF MLA). Sterling does not certify.

Tenders and procurement

  • Government and statutory-body contracting, including the Procurement and Contract (Administration) Act, Cap. 23.36 (Government of Saint Christopher and Nevis, with the Special Prosecutor for corrupt conduct in dealings with Government): The Anti-Corruption Act, 2023 names the Procurement and Contract (Administration) Act, Cap. 23.36 as ancillary legislation, makes it an offence to give or offer a benefit to a person in public life in connection with business with the Government or a statutory corporation. It sets integrity conduct rather than quality evidence, so each procuring body states the certificates and documents a bidder must supply in its tender documents.

Questions Saint Kitts and Nevis clients ask

Who sets national standards in Saint Kitts and Nevis?

The St. Kitts and Nevis Bureau of Standards. It was established on 8 March 1999 and now works under the Bureau of Standards and Quality Act No. 19 of 2021, preparing, promoting and adopting national standards, among them ISO 14001, ISO 22000, ISO 45001 and ISO 50001. The Bureau defines a standard as a guideline whose use is not mandatory unless a regulation makes it so.

Does Saint Kitts and Nevis have its own accreditation body for certification bodies?

None appears. The IAAC member pages and ILAC's members-by-category list name no accreditation body for the Federation, although the Bureau of Standards houses a National Accreditation Focal Point that links clients to established accreditation bodies. A certificate for a local site therefore usually carries accreditation from another economy. Ask each certification body for its accreditation certificate and scope.

Are the national laboratories accredited to ISO/IEC 17025?

The Bureau of Standards says so for its three testing laboratories: chemistry, microbiology and air quality. It also runs a metrology laboratory for mass and volume verification and calibration. Private laboratories and manufacturers with their own testing rooms can look to the same standard, but accreditation comes from an accreditation body, so confirm the route and scope with the Bureau's accreditation focal point.

Which regulator oversees banks in Saint Kitts and Nevis?

The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, which lists the Banking Act among its legislation and oversees payment systems. A Government Information Service report says the National Assembly passed the Banking (Amendment) Bill, 2026 on 11 June 2026, amending 71 provisions on disclosure, fair treatment, fraud prevention and complaints. Confirm what applies to you with your bank's compliance team or the Central Bank.

Does the Anti-Corruption Act, 2023 matter to suppliers of Government?

Yes. The Act creates a Special Prosecutor and offences of corrupt conduct, including fraud on the Government and statutory corporations, which covers offering a benefit to a person in public life in connection with business with Government. It was assented to on 28 March 2023 and starts on a day fixed by Order, so confirm its commencement status with your counsel before relying on any date.

Are certification audits in Saint Kitts and Nevis conducted in English?

Normally, yes. Acts, Gazette notices and Government websites are published in English, so document review and interviews are usually run in that language. Settle the audit language, any interpreter and the language of controlled documents with the certification body at application. Sterling's New York office prepares your organisation for the audit; the certification body decides the result.
