In short

AS9100 certification in Qatar at a glance

In Qatar, AS9100 is asked for by buyers and schemes rather than required by law. The drivers below show where the pressure comes from.

Aerospace quality requirements reach Qatar through purchase orders rather than through a local rule. Ras Bufontas, the free zone connected to Hamad International Airport, hosts logistics and industrial tenants handling high-value, time-sensitive goods, and the machine shops and component makers around it are asked by prime contractors for an AS9100 certificate. The buyer's terms define what is acceptable. The certificate comes from a certification body accredited within the arrangements now run by Global ACI, and the GCC Accreditation Centre (GAC) serves Qatar as ILAC lists it; check the scope covers aerospace. Sterling prepares the organisation on top of an ISO 9001 base: configuration management, first article inspection, supplier flow-down, risk and counterfeit-part controls, and internal audit. Delivery is from Sterling's Dubai office, and Effivity and Sterling Academy come with the engagement.

The need

Who needs AS9100 in Qatar, and what happens without it

In Qatar the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.

  • Machine shops and fabricators supplying aerospace customersPrimes pass the AS9100 requirement down their supply chain by contract; no Qatari rule is known to require it.
  • Maintenance, repair and ground-support suppliers near the airportRas Bufontas is connected to Hamad International Airport and hosts logistics and industrial tenants.
  • Precision component makers diversifying into aviationAn accredited AS9100 certificate is the entry ticket most aerospace buyers ask for.
  • Existing ISO 9001 holders in the industrial baseAS9100 builds on the ISO 9001 system they already run.

AS9100 requirements in Qatar

Strip away the vocabulary and AS9100 asks a supplier to prove six things about delivering aerospace products safely and on time.

Product safety is managedRisks to product safety are identified and controlled throughout the product's life, from design to delivery.
Configuration is under controlThe approved configuration of each product is identified, changes are controlled and records match what was delivered.
Counterfeit parts are kept outPurchasing, inspection and supplier controls stop counterfeit or suspect parts from entering the product.
Operational risks are managedRisks to delivery and product conformity are assessed and controlled during planning and production.
Production is proven before it runsProduction process verification, such as first article inspection, confirms that processes can make conforming product.
Delivery and conformity are measuredOn-time delivery and product conformity are measured, and human factors are considered when nonconformities are investigated.

In Qatar these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: AS9100 explained →

How Sterling gets a Qatari company certified

How to get AS9100 certified in Qatar

One team from the Dubai office carries the work from scoping to certificate. Clients in Qatar are served from Sterling's Dubai office (GCC), on-site where the work needs it and remotely otherwise.

    1. Discovery call and scopeEntities, locations, regulators and target date, agreed before any proposal.
    2. Gap assessment against AS9100 and the Qatari requirements that apply to youControls you already run for your regulators and customers are reused, not rebuilt.
    3. Your system built with your team in EffivityRisks, controls, evidence, incidents and reviews in one live system the auditor can see.
    4. Internal audit, management review and corrective actionsYour internal auditors trained by Sterling; the evidence proven before the certification body arrives.
    5. Certification body stage 1 and stage 2, then surveillanceAn accredited body audits and decides. Sterling supports the audits and the three-year cycle.
    Included in every engagement
    • End to end, from one team
    • Effivity ISO & GRC software
    • Preferential Sterling Academy access, with complimentary awareness training for your people
    • Internal auditor training for your audit team, as applicable to your standard
    • Vulnerability assessment on ISMS engagements

The Sterling Promise: 100% on-time completion, 100% success, 8,100+ client engagements.Sterling does not certify. Certification decisions stay with independent bodies.

      Time

How long does AS9100 certification take in Qatar?

There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Qatar these are the factors that set the timeline.

      • Scope of design, production or distribution activities
      • Configuration management and first article evidence
      • Supplier flow-down records
      • Certification body availability for the aerospace scheme

Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.

      Cost

How much does AS9100 certification cost in Qatar?

The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the certification body’s audit fees, which are quoted separately. In Qatar these factors move both.

      • Number of sites and product families in scope
      • Depth of product safety and counterfeit-part controls
      • Certification body audit fees, quoted separately from consulting
      • Traceability tooling to introduce

Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.

        Choosing a partner

AS9100 consultants and certification bodies in Qatar

Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an accredited certification body then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.

        • Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers AS9100 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
        • Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Qatar are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
        • Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
        • Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.

Accreditation, audit language and remote audits in Qatar

Use a certification body accredited for AS9100 by an accreditation body within the international mutual recognition arrangements now run by Global ACI (Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated); check that the accreditation scope covers the standard and your sector. No body is named here unless its Qatar accreditation scope has been verified. Aerospace certification also depends on the scheme rules that customers follow, so confirm with the buyer which certification body qualifies. The GCC Accreditation Centre (GAC) serves Qatar, as ILAC lists it; check that the accreditation scope covers the standard and your sector. Edition and transition details: AS9100 hub →

          Audit language

Agree the audit and document language with the certification body at application; Arabic and English are both used in the market, and a regulator or government buyer may set its own language requirement.

          Remote and on-site

Remote audit elements are at the certification body's discretion under its accreditation rules; operational sites are normally visited on-site.

AS9100 in Qatar: questions clients ask

Does Qatar have a national AS9100 requirement?

Buyers set it, not a national rule. The Ras Bufontas page describes an airport-linked free zone for high-value, time-sensitive products without mentioning AS9100, and the requirement normally comes from an aerospace customer's purchasing terms. Ask your buyer which standard and which certification bodies it recognises.

Which accreditation matters for an AS9100 certificate?

Begin with where the certification body's accreditation comes from. Global ACI's arrangements are the international frame, and the GCC Accreditation Centre (GAC) is the regional centre ILAC shows for Qatar. Aerospace customers often add scheme conditions of their own, so general accreditation may not settle it; ask the customer before engaging a body.

How is AS9100 different from ISO 9001 for a Qatari supplier?

It adds aerospace requirements on top of the quality system: configuration management, first article evidence, flow-down to suppliers and product safety controls. A supplier already certified to ISO 9001 therefore extends rather than restarts, though the gap work in those areas often takes the longest.

Can an airport-zone tenant be supported from Dubai?

Yes. Sterling serves Qatar from its Dubai office, on-site where the work needs it and remotely otherwise, with Effivity and Sterling Academy included. The accredited certification body, not Sterling, decides on certification. Supplier flow-downs from your aerospace customer set the scope, so share those contract clauses at the start.
