ISO 22301 certification in Oman at a glance
In Oman, ISO 22301 is asked for by buyers and schemes rather than required by law. The drivers below show where the pressure comes from.
Continuity planning is written into Oman's public-sector and licensing documents even where ISO 22301 is not named. The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology's IT Service Continuity Framework guides government entities through continuity plans, critical service identification, downtime impact, recovery strategies, training and testing. The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority's licence rules oblige licensees to submit an Emergency Plan and meet quality of service requirements, and customers expect suppliers to show tested plans. ISO 22301 gives these duties one structure: business impact analysis, risk assessment, continuity strategies, plans and exercises. A certificate from an accredited certification body shows a customer or regulator that the system is tested, but it does not replace licence conditions. Sterling's Dubai office guides the analysis, plan writing and exercises, with Effivity and Sterling Academy included with the engagement; Sterling does not certify.
Who needs ISO 22301 in Oman, and what happens without it
In Oman the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.
- Providers of government IT servicesThe IT Service Continuity Framework guides government entities on continuity plans, and providers are asked to support them.
- Telecommunications licenseesLicence rules require an Emergency Plan to be submitted to the Authority.

Strip away the vocabulary and ISO 22301 requires a company to prove six things about how it keeps operating when something goes wrong.
In Oman these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: ISO 22301 explained →

How long does ISO 22301 certification take in Oman?
There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Oman these are the factors that set the timeline.
- Number of critical services and sites in scope
- Business impact analysis and recovery strategy work
- Exercise scheduling with suppliers
- Maturity of existing continuity plans
Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.
How much does ISO 22301 certification cost in Oman?
The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the certification body’s audit fees, which are quoted separately. In Oman these factors move both.
- Scope and number of locations
- Recovery technology gaps found
- Exercise facilitation and training
- Certification body fees, separate from consulting
Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.
ISO 22301 consultants and certification bodies in Oman
Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an accredited certification body then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.
- Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers ISO 22301 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
- Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Oman are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
- Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
- Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.
Laws and regulations that drive ISO 22301 in Oman (2)
| Instrument | How it treats the standard |
|---|---|
| IT Service Continuity Framework (MTCIT) | Supporting framework A national guide for government entities; it makes no explicit reference to ISO 22301. |
| Class II Licence Rules and Conditions (TRA, Royal Decree No. 30/2002) | Related Licensees submit an Emergency Plan to the Authority; the document does not cite ISO standards. |
Accreditation, audit language and remote audits in Oman
Certification is issued by an accredited certification body, not by Sterling. Look for a body accredited to ISO/IEC 17021-1 by an accreditation body within the international mutual recognition arrangements now run by Global ACI (Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated). The GCC Accreditation Center lists that accreditation among its services and the Oman Accreditation Centre is the national centre; confirm the scope of the accreditation your chosen body holds. Audit language
Agree the audit language with the certification body at application; Arabic and English are both workable, and controlled documents are commonly kept in English for international clients.
Remote and on-site
Stage 1 and stage 2 assessments can combine on-site visits with remote review where the certification body allows it; sites in several governorates add travel.
ISO 22301 in Oman: questions clients ask
Does the government IT Service Continuity Framework require ISO 22301?
No explicit reference to ISO 22301 appears in the framework, a national guide for government entities from the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology. It covers continuity plans, critical service identification, downtime impact, recovery strategies, training and testing. An ISO 22301 system can organise that work, but check each contract for the evidence the buyer wants.
Do telecom licensees need a continuity plan?
The Class II licence rules published by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority require licensees to submit an Emergency Plan to the Authority and to meet quality of service requirements; they do not cite ISO standards. Your own licence and annexes control what applies, so read them with counsel, and use ISO 22301 to structure and test the plan.
Who certifies ISO 22301 in Oman?
An accredited certification body does, not Sterling. Check that it holds accreditation to ISO/IEC 17021-1 with a scope covering business continuity management; the GCC Accreditation Center lists that service and the Oman Accreditation Centre is the national centre. Ask for the accreditation certificate and check its scope and recognition under the Global ACI arrangements.
