In short

ISO 45001 certification in Amsterdam at a glance

Heavy-lift cranes, which the Port of Amsterdam says its project-cargo terminals use, show what safety management means on the North Sea Canal: loads, vehicles, vessels and people sharing tight spaces. Alongside the crane operators stand fuel storage and the new renewable-fuel plants of BioPark, with hazards of their own. ISO 45001 provides the structure to control them: leadership commitment, worker participation, hazard identification and risk assessment, operational controls, emergency preparedness, incident investigation, internal audit and review. Contractors who work across these sites are often asked for it by the principals who hire them. Sterling builds the system with your supervisors, not around them, and prepares you for an accredited certification body's assessment.

Workers have a real sayWorkers and their representatives are consulted and take part in decisions on hazards, controls, incidents and the system itself.
You know the hazards and the risksHazards are identified on an ongoing basis, risks are assessed, and health and safety legal requirements are known and met.
Controls follow the right orderRisks are reduced using the hierarchy of controls, from eliminating the hazard down to protective equipment, including for contractors.
You are prepared for emergenciesEmergency situations are identified, response plans are in place, people are trained and drills are carried out.
Incidents lead to learningIncidents and nonconformities are investigated, causes are corrected, and performance is monitored, audited and reviewed.

ISO 45001 in Amsterdam: questions clients ask

Why do Amsterdam port contractors hold ISO 45001?

Principals and terminal operators often prequalify contractors on safety management, and a certified system answers that question once. The port's mix of heavy-lift, bulk and fuel operations makes site safety a daily topic. The certificate supplements, and never replaces, the duties that the law places on employers and site operators.

Does a BioPark tenant need ISO 45001?

The port publishes no rule that requires it. Renewable-fuel producers handle hazardous materials and process equipment, so a structured safety system is valuable, and lenders, insurers or customers may ask for certification. Confirm with each party what evidence it requires.
