In short

AS9100 certification in Mauritius at a glance

One Mauritian instrument bears on AS9100. It does not name the standard. So why do buyers in Mauritius keep asking for the certificate?

No Mauritian law or regulator guidance cited here names AS9100, so demand for it arrives through contracts. Aerospace customers flow quality requirements down their supply chains, and a Mauritian precision engineer, manufacturer or logistics provider that wants that work is asked for a certificate under the sector's own scheme. The Economic Development Board lists Manufacturing, and Freeport and Logistics, among Mauritius's key sectors, which is where such suppliers tend to sit. Certification comes from a body approved under the aerospace scheme and accredited by the Mauritius Accreditation Service or a body within the international arrangements, and your customer decides which bodies it accepts. Sterling's Johannesburg office builds the system on top of ISO 9001 practice, covering configuration management, traceability and risk, with Effivity and Sterling Academy included and 20+ years of practice behind the method.

The need

Who needs AS9100 in Mauritius, and what happens without it

In Mauritius the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.

  • Precision engineering suppliers bidding into aircraft maker supply chainsAerospace customers flow quality requirements down to every tier, and the certificate is the usual proof that a supplier meets them.
  • Manufacturers diversifying from other export sectorsManufacturing is one of the Economic Development Board's key sectors, and firms adding aerospace parts need the sector's quality system.
  • Maintenance and logistics service providers working for airlines and aircraft makersCustomers in aviation ask service providers to show controlled processes, configuration management and traceability.

AS9100 requirements in Mauritius

Strip away the vocabulary and AS9100 asks a supplier to prove six things about delivering aerospace products safely and on time.

Product safety is managedRisks to product safety are identified and controlled throughout the product's life, from design to delivery.
Configuration is under controlThe approved configuration of each product is identified, changes are controlled and records match what was delivered.
Counterfeit parts are kept outPurchasing, inspection and supplier controls stop counterfeit or suspect parts from entering the product.
Operational risks are managedRisks to delivery and product conformity are assessed and controlled during planning and production.
Production is proven before it runsProduction process verification, such as first article inspection, confirms that processes can make conforming product.
Delivery and conformity are measuredOn-time delivery and product conformity are measured, and human factors are considered when nonconformities are investigated.

In Mauritius these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: AS9100 explained →

How Sterling gets a Mauritian company certified

How to get AS9100 certified in Mauritius

One team from the Johannesburg office carries the work from scoping to certificate. Clients across Mauritius are served from Sterling's Johannesburg office, on-site where the work needs it and remotely otherwise.

    1. Discovery call and scopeEntities, locations, regulators and target date, agreed before any proposal.
    2. Gap assessment against AS9100 and the Mauritian requirements that apply to youControls you already run for your regulators and customers are reused, not rebuilt.
    3. Your system built with your team in EffivityRisks, controls, evidence, incidents and reviews in one live system the auditor can see.
    4. Internal audit, management review and corrective actionsYour internal auditors trained by Sterling; the evidence proven before the certification body arrives.
    5. Certification body stage 1 and stage 2, then surveillanceAn accredited body audits and decides. Sterling supports the audits and the three-year cycle.

    • Effivity ISO & GRC software
    • Preferential Sterling Academy access, with complimentary awareness training for your people
    • Internal auditor training for your audit team, as applicable to your standard
    • Vulnerability assessment on ISMS engagements

The Sterling Promise: 100% on-time completion, 100% success, 8,100+ client engagements.Sterling does not certify. Certification decisions stay with independent bodies.

      Time

How long does AS9100 certification take in Mauritius?

There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Mauritius these are the factors that set the timeline.

      • Customer-specific requirements and flow-down clauses
      • Maturity of configuration management, risk and traceability processes
      • Number of sites and outsourced special processes
      • Certification body scheduling under the aerospace scheme

Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.

      Cost

How much does AS9100 certification cost in Mauritius?

The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the certification body’s audit fees, which are quoted separately. In Mauritius these factors move both.

      • Number of sites and product lines in scope
      • Customer requirements and special process controls
      • Certification body audit fees quoted separately from consulting
      • Remediation of gaps found at internal audit

Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.

        Choosing a partner

AS9100 consultants and certification bodies in Mauritius

Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an accredited certification body then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.

        • Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers AS9100 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
        • Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Mauritius are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
        • Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
        • Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.

Laws and regulations that drive AS9100 in Mauritius (2)

          InstrumentHow it treats the standard
Economic Development Board key sectorsDoes not name the standard
The Board lists Manufacturing, and Freeport and Logistics, among its key sectors; no Mauritian regulator guidance cited here names AS9100.
Accreditation by the Mauritius Accreditation Service (MAURITAS)Scheme rule
Certification bodies are accredited by MAURITAS or by a body within the international arrangements; ask each body to show whether its scope covers aerospace work.

Accreditation, audit language and remote audits in Mauritius

Choose a certification body accredited for this standard by the Mauritius Accreditation Service (MAURITAS) or by an accreditation body within the international mutual recognition arrangements (Global ACI — Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated, formerly the IAF MLA); check that the accreditation scope covers the standard and your sector. AS9100 certificates come from certification bodies approved under the aerospace sector's own scheme, so accreditation alone is not enough: confirm with your customer which certification bodies it accepts, and ask each body which accreditation and scheme approval it holds. Audit language

English is the usual language of business records, standards and tenders in Mauritius, with French widely used alongside it, and interviews with staff or suppliers can run in French or another local language. Agree the audit language, any interpreter and the language of controlled documents with the certification body at application.

          Remote and on-site

Stage audits review the management system and the sites in scope; document review can be remote at the certification body's discretion, while production, inspection and storage areas are visited.

AS9100 in Mauritius: questions clients ask

Does any Mauritian law require AS9100?

None of the Mauritian laws or regulator guidance cited here names AS9100. The Economic Development Board lists manufacturing among its key sectors, but the requirement comes from aerospace customers and their supply chains rather than from a Mauritian regulator. Ask your customer which version and which certification bodies it accepts before you plan, and take your counsel's view on any contract clause.

Who issues an AS9100 certificate to a Mauritian supplier?

A certification body approved under the aerospace sector's scheme issues it, not Sterling and not the accreditation service. Accreditation by MAURITAS or by a body within the international arrangements is part of the picture, but your customer decides which bodies it accepts. Ask each body for its accreditation scope and its scheme approval.

Is MAURITAS accreditation enough for an AS9100 certificate?

Not on its own. Mauritian legislation names MAURITAS for food and environmental accreditation, so the certification body must show its scope and its approval under the aerospace scheme. Treat the customer's own list of accepted bodies as the deciding test, and ask the body in writing.

Which Mauritian sectors might add AS9100?

Precision manufacturing and service firms in the Economic Development Board's key sectors of Manufacturing, and Freeport and Logistics, are the natural candidates when an aerospace customer asks. The Board does not cite AS9100, so the trigger is a customer or tender requirement, not a rule. Confirm the requirement in writing before investing.
